Good news for the ones who haven't sent their consoles in (myself included). Apparently, a fix is officially coming from Xbox updates.

Even though this was for the cutting off, this has fixed two people that had freezing issues. I would suggest anyone with freezing or cutting off issues to try this.

After being unable to finish a rec game for a week because of my series x shutting down, it has finally been solved. I haven't had my system crash since following this guide. Note: This ONLY works if you are in the Xbox Insider Program.


If you are in the Xbox Insider Program, go to the insider app and check if you are in the update beta. When you get to this menu, make sure to click on the OMEGA update, which has the least amount of bugs. After selecting this option, you will need to restart your console and download a new (technically older) update.


When you load up 2k, you will need to adjust your some of your settings, but nothing else should be impacted.


My series x hasn't crashed since. Hope this helps.

There are 2 or 3 comments saying it fixed it for them. Please if you are still dealing with the shut down, try it and report back!

Bottom line is if u want stable High performance next gen you need to get Ps5. Not damn crappy series S.

I was in the same boat i used to have the Series X which was shutting down. My patience ran out

turn off HDMI CEC (in xbox series and Tv), for me is the solution ,i am playing a lot of myteam online games whitout shut offs

I never had this option on and I don't even think my monitor supports it.

Alright so after an evening of playing, 4+ straight Rec games and no crash (to the dashboard, let alone turning off) and none of the issues I had previously whatsoever.

My replacement Xbox is a refurbished unit (April date) in mint condition I received today on Friday, exactly one week after shipping it away.

While this somewhat means I won't have much use in visiting this thread anymore, I plan to include a small timeline of my friend's experience returning his unit (which he began the process of tonight after increasingly frequent crashes of his own and beginning to have the Xbox shut off during Rec games) alongside some slightly more long-term updates.

One thing I found interesting is it appears that if he gets it shipped Saturday morning (via dropoff at a UPS Store location) the UPS time and cost calculator says he has a guaranteed Tuesday delivery to El Paso on the expedited 2 Day Air label they give, which makes me think (since I advised him on what to say describing the issue in the repair order) that he MIGHT be able to get the replacement shipped back to Wednesday, which would mean a Friday delivery potentially? At least based on us living near each other. Would be unique to have essentially a 6-day turnaround but it seems somewhat possible.

Did they ship his replacement yet? My old Xbox also made it to El Paso on Monday and has been processing ever since, so just curious how everyone else is doing.

did all the insider program stuff and still not working. guess i'll wait till the actual xbox update goes live and if it isn't working i'll send in my xbox

I'm actually in the highest level (Skip-ahead) when it comes to betas. In my mind, I should already have it, but I don't.

So my order now says "same unit repair" and they emailed yesterday saying they are currently inspecting the unit and the status hasn't updated since. I'm a little worried they are just going to send me back my same Xbox if they don't find anything wrong with it...

Did you guys who received new Xboxs get that same "inspecting" email?

If they have an update that is going to fix it, they may just force that update on your console. If it works, then the problem is fixed and you get to keep your original console. Sounds like things may be moving towards a software fix since you sent yours in! Lets see what happens.

Yeah, that's what I got on my request too. Keep in my mind that I haven't sent my unit in yet. Damn...maybe I did wait too long.
