Re: Nba2k22 turning off the console (Xbox series X)

Guys i got on this forums very recently due to this issue in particular

I`ve had a Xbox 360, then One, never had any issue.

I wanted to play next gen big time i bought X series month ago, damn i was happy, till i entered the Rec, and the damn thing powered off

I started browsing internet and i figured it is a known case, i instantly returned my Xbox, luckly at my store they gave me choice since they did not have X series for replacement, money back or waiting till they get new Xbox.

I took money back, and kept looking on internet for good news, but my patience with Microsoft ran out.

Almost a month now, and it is not looking good, not to mention when i read many players who had same issue with 21 next, and never been fixed on Xbox, i was like no way i cant wait ages, and being stuck with current gen.

I bought a PS5 today, yeh i had to buy another game, but tbh it was freaking worth it, game works perfectly.

I was lucky they gave my money back tho

    Good luck guys

Yeah mine just made it to El Paso. I figured with the nature of 2K's weekly patches, nothing would be fixed until at best Wednesday (so far so good on that bet) and if I sent it back on Friday, I could probably expect a replacement by this coming Friday.

For me, the gamble wasn't as much the chance about getting another Xbox that shuts off again as much as having the chance at getting one that only dashboards or doesn't crash at all, which seems to be a decent majority of consoles. And in the meantime, I'm realistically not losing too much playtime because I'd have gotten booted off every mode anyway.

        Yeah, that's a good plan.
However, if there's ever a fix, it won't be coming from 2K, it's coming from Xbox. They've taken responsibility of the issue. Xbox support told me so themselves through DMs. Their engineers are on the case and will "soon" have an update on the situation. That's what they told me. 2K from the start dodged all responsibility, probably with reason. Probably. That's why I'm waiting for the final outcome on their support page: https://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-live-status.

I first brought this issue to the attention of OSers last January when it was running amok in my 30 man mynba online league. It almost always happens to series X users in my online league for the most part. Some including Joe Patowski has exhausted everything to get microsoft and 2k to get it resolved a year later after dealing with it since 2k21. This is a travesty that an issue lingers since console launch and through multiple next gen games without a fix. How a class action lawsuit hasn't been filed yet is beyond me.

Microsoft is largely known to manipulate gaming news. They control most ads for certain large gaming news sectors See how there's so many FUD against ps5. They even pay xbox trolls to spread misinformations. (even in this board there are some obvious ones)

Your best bet is to force for a replacement while you are still under warranty.

Those are some bold claims, man. Got any evidence to back it up? I mean, MS ain't no saint, but neither is any big company.

This is conspiracy level stuff for no real reason. This is a thread about the failings on a relatively small scale as it relates to a single game series on a console.

Honestly, the fact that it happened on 2K21 as well is a good indication that 2K shares the blame in making a game doing whatever it is that's pushing the bounds of the Xbox Series X technically and causing a crash.

As much as anything, Microsoft and 2K are companies with incentives to do as little as possible to make as much as possible. In Xbox's case, that means settling for a failure rate (and technical capacity) of consoles because making sure to any higher degree would come at a great cost.

For 2K, it means hitting a release date no matter the techincal issues with a game because as long as it's not happening to everyone (which it clearly isn't, and including current gen players [still a majority of customers for them for now] puts that number at an even smaller rate of the playerbase) then they can fix it a week, a month later, whatever.

Stuck in the middle are customer service people and writers. Writers in the video game space rarely pay attention to sports games as it is (with the assumption they're all somewhat buggy flash no substance crap shoveled out yearly) and customer service has little information from actual programmers who are working on it (and even less from people from the other company responsible i.e. Xbox Support has no clue what 2K devs are doing, vice versa).

That ecosystem leads to misinformation, assumptions, and charitable (and uncharitable) conclusions based on no real info (like we see here and from people you're seeing who you say are spreading misinformation.)

It's a giant complicated web of people whose jobs are their jobs with little ability to communicate, people whose best interest is to be first to say something even if it's not true (as we saw with that one website pretending a previous patch addressed crashing when 2K said no such thing) and a lot of others trying to figure out wtf is going on.

In any case, for those following along and staying on topic, my Xbox is now considered to be at the service center and to be processed so I'm hoping I get that 24h turnaround and get a replacement shipment notification on Wednesday.

I think it was your thread that I was trying to find, because I think I commented on it. IMHO, I don't think it's making real news, because the overall failure rate is "low", and it's only happening with a handful of titles. Then you got people like me where it happened on NBA 2K21, but it started working just fine again where I'm spreading possible false information that it was fixed via a patch or firmware update.

I still believe that MS should take it seriously, because come year 2 or 3 respectively, there will be a lot more games "built from the ground up" for next-gen gaming. If EA and 2K inadvertently came across a software programming that crashes their console, then they need to figure something out to prevent future occurrences. As I stated before, they don't want to be the manufacturer of "the most powerful console on market", but the damn thing can't play 100% true next-gen games. Social media and news outlets will have a field day if that were to happen.

EDIT: It WAS your thread that I commented my experience in. Damn...I commented on it in February which is CLEARLY quite a few months after my purchase. Hmmmmmm....maybe my problem wasn't fixed. I absolutely HATED 2K21, and I primarily playing NBA 2K20, then current gen NBA 2K21 when it was on Game Pass.

Funny...I was talking about that Best Buy replacement program then, lol. Glad I held out.

Re: Nba2k22 turning off the console (Xbox series X)

The failure rate definitely isn't high, and that is the exact reason, in my view, why Microsoft is very quiet about it (up until that tweet and recent xbox status update, which is September 4th, more than a month ago (!)).

A bunch of people going to have their warranty run out in upcoming couple of months is another reason.

Oh and then there is the "blame 2k" belief (which i think isn't accurate, even though i tend to blame 2k a lot).

What I'm trying to say is - i don't think Microsoft can fix this with a software update, i think they know it (it has been 11 months since it started, and multiple OS updates), so it seems like there is nothing to gain by not returning the console, hoping to get a functioning one in return (which i did, after waiting for almost a year).

A lot of us assume it is a 2k issue because it has only happened to us on 2k21 and 2k22. But then I got thinking about it and because there has been such a lack of truly next gen game released on xbox that could push the series x I realized NBA 2k21 and 22 were the the only actual next gen games I have played on the console. It certainly could be a microsoft hardware problem. Time will probably tell as more games come out built for next gen only systems.

But from what I am reading on here and Reddit, 80% of the people experiencing this dont understand how to setup a warranty claim. Embarrassing.

That is kinda weird. There have been so many different reports from what Xbox Support on both Twitter and on the Phone are telling people. They tell some people it is a 2k Problem, they have told some people it is a straight up Hardware problem and to send it in, they told me to remain patient, they dont know what is going on, they are "investigating it" and they just sent me the tweet saying the same.

If I have to use my warranty, belive me I will. It's just that first I'd like to be 100% sure what the issue is. On the other hand, I'm not so much in a hurry as my warranty ends July 2022 and besides 2K, my Xbox works totally fine. My deadline for this 2K-Xbox situation, is until Xbox Support page clears the "game outage" status. This is my desicion and I'm not suggesting anyone do the same.

I am calling xbox support this evening to see what they think. My warranty runs out next month so I need to get on it.

For those of you that have sent your xbox in, have you had any issues at all with the new one that you have gotten back?

Also, how did you ship it? Did you send it in the original box even though it says not to?
                                DSM Transfer.
