    Re: NBA 2K22 Useful Findings

This thread is fire! I've been digging deeper into tendencies and the play initiator/play types. There are a lot of errors. Players like Malcolm Brogdon, Jimmy Butler, and even Joker aren't play initiators even tho its in their "archetype".

Also the handoff passer plays designed for players like Joker arent assigned to him. Should go a long way in getting players to play like themselves.

I'm going to try edits to play discipline and touch tendencies as suggested to see what kinds of results I get

OK.. Reading this thread with interest. As someone who doesn't have the time to make all these edits you guys have been finding, will you be dropping these in rosters we can download?

Interesting, I’ll give this a go! Does that only apply for the User team tho?

          I second this question.

My main worry with giving every team standard playbook was that every team will run the same plays which may seem redundant? Then again the standard playbooks are redundant.

What I’m experimenting with now is giving teams that I have lots of characteristic legends on their own time specific playbooks if available. For example, my Shaq led Magic have the 95 Magic playbook. I gave my Ewing led Knicks (which is a mix of past and present as it still has its current star players as well as previous star players like Ewing and Starks and Oakley) their 90’s playbook and EWING IS GETTING PASSES THROWN INTO THE POST CONSTANTLY. Seeing this classic ball being played is a beauty to behold in this game. Patrick is doing lots of hooks and reverse fades in the post. It’s stunning to witness. Way better than the redundant stupid “three or drive” plays we see with current playbooks.

I’d recommend playing around with classic playbooks on teams with strong players at positions matching said playbooks. I also have my all time Bulls using the 96 Bulls playbook too. It’s great.

            Re: NBA 2K22 Useful Findings

I just discovered a pretty big find when I was examining the Default 2K Rosters, if you go into the Roster Creation screen and look at the Close Shot Tendency for players, you will find in general that the main stars have a high number in this category. After weeks of trying to tone down the amount of plays the opposing CPU team runs for their star/main player, I’ve found that if you lower the Close Shot Tendency to 50 or below for these Star players, the team will run more plays for other players and you’ll see a more variety of plays called by the opposing CPU team.

What I’ve done was that I went into every team and made sure that the highest value, 50 was given to the main/star players of the team and no higher. All the other players were below 50.

It’s so odd that the Close Shot Tendency basically dictates which player the team will call the majority of the plays for and not any other player’s tendencies such as the Touch Tendency…

I reverted back to the original Team’s playbook and did not touch the Coach’s settings other than Protect the Paint for the Defensive Focus. The Close Shot Tendency in the Roster Creation screen is a real game changer.

I did the same thing with the drive tendency. I put high rated slashers at 50, everyone else below and it made a huge difference. CPU uses passing as much more of a weapon to get open. Issue I'm having now is getting them to take and look for smarter shots. I'll add close shot to my edits

It’s amazing how bad the default roster tendencies are and how much you can unlock if you edit them. Not sure who works on the tendencies at 2K, but it’s hard to believe that they play a full 10-12min/quarter with every team against the CPU.

I hate myself for opening pandora's box. I feel like now I know whats been wrong with the game all these years. The amount of work it's going to take for me to complete a tendency overhaul is daunting. No way will I commit to this every year lol

Same here my friend, “Pandora’s box” “Rabbit hole” “Slippery Slope” but it’s clear that Tendencies make a real impact on gameplay and has a higher impact than gameplay sliders. I wish us folks who are dedicated to mimic real life NBA were working at 2K for a living…

Try making the highest value for Close Shot Tendency at 49 instead of 50 and you’ll find more drive and kick outs made by star players.

So 49 should be the highest value to assign the main player or players for Close Shot Tendency. Example: I made sure Jason Tatum and Jalen Brown’s Close Shot Tendency was at 49 and everyone else below this value.

In the Default 2K rosters, the Close Shot Tendency value was always way too high for star players and you would find that the CPU team would be selfish with these players. Calling plays after plays for these star players selfishly throughout the game whenever they were on the floor. Now with the changes you’ll see more plays being called for others, star players willing to pass more instead of having unrealistic high FGA esp if you play 8+min quarters. And don’t worry, still you’ll see these star players dominate.

Is there any way we can use sliders/tendencies/badges/etc. to compensate for the help defense nerf? Maybe league-wide Help Defense IQ buffs, giving everyone the Lightning Reflex badge (I think that helps them recognize when to bring help), etc.?

Does lowering the Close Shot Tendency in the sliders make any difference instead of global editing all of these players individually? What if you put the Slider on 10, does it make a difference?

Man @Luke Skywalker I am the same page...I was just posting about Help D suffering in another thread and I lowered Close Shot Tendency for Cpu significantly and it opened up the perimeter for me a bit more. Surprisingly, I found my AI teammates to have more spacing as a result of tweaking CPU's tendency. I do have my own personal set, and this may have an affect too, but I did see some changes. Not sure if your response was in regard to FGA or the Help D...otherwise, it does help a little...though its still a bandaid for bad Help D since the patch.

Rant: The tendencies in Default 2K Rosters are terrible, a lot of adjustments needs to be made for like 85% of the players in order to get some realistic gameplay out of the game. I hate that there’s no clear cut tendency that determines who is the focal point, primary, secondary, tertiary scorer of the offense. 2K determines this by adding up all the shot tendency attributes and whoever has the highest sum, will be the focal point scorer. You would’ve thought Touch Tendency would determine who gets the ball on offense the most but it doesn’t… very frustrating!
