Re: NBA 2K24 Gameplay Enhancements Revealed with Trailer
Sounds like a lot to be excited about from the animations and controls, to the new play calling options, and even the new substitution system. I always play with autosubs. Just easier than having to manage stamina and lineups but the system was very flawed. There would always be situations where all the starters are subbed out and your stuck trying to figure out how to score with bench players. You'd get into 4th quarters and star players would be left on the bench for minutes in close games. And the patterns were essentially the same every game. Hopefully the new system is more dynamic and realistic.
Not to ignore the main feature, ProPlay. Sounds and looks great from what was shown. My only complaint is that I wish they showed more clips like the Durant one, comparing real footage to game footage. Also would have liked to see some comparisons to 2k23 to really show off the improvements.
Yes, they showed too many unnecessary real life clips with no relation to anything.

NBA 2K24 Gameplay Enhancements Revealed with Trailer
I love the concept of this, but I’m still skeptical about how its implemented. It looks like a canned animation, the way the defender is moving and switching stances on the KD and Steph ProPlay clips.
Would be nice to see these plays happening on screen and actual gameplay. How free are we to branch out of these animations? What happens if I try this KD move but instead decide to cross over one more time and drive, or cross the other way and shoot ? How will these animations blend together?
Because what they showed is basically a Canned animation of something going on exactly how the real life clip. In videogames that’s now how stuff play out
ProPlay is already in 2K23, but partially implemented. Steph, JT and Kyrie definitely have ProPlay animations for pull-ups and step-backs. You aren’t locked into any animation on defense. The ai defends it perfectly in the clip because it can adjust to inputs before you blink.PSN: ForeverVersatile

Unrelated thought, I wonder if ProPlay makes the animation process easier on the developers. It could allow them to spend more attention on other areas of the game. A nitpicky thing I noticed in the Durant comparison is the lack of jersey physics. There has to be some nice middle ground between what we have now and what they had in the Xbox 360/PS3 days.Comment

Re: NBA 2K24 Gameplay Enhancements Revealed with Trailer
Alright i'm hyped and ready to be disappointed again by the time patch 1 rolls out.
I like that shot contesting is being reworked. Hopefully it's a little more engaging than simply holding right stick up to completely shut down the CPU. I'm hoping that the changes made to shot blocking/fouling also works for shot contesting. A poorly positioned or timed shot contest should also result in a poor contest or a foul. This would really make playing defense fun and challenging. I really loved '23 but what kills it for me as an offline player is how easy it is to defend the CPU.Last edited by alabamarob; 08-20-2023, 09:58 AM.Psn: Alabamarob

Re: NBA 2K24 Gameplay Enhancements Revealed with Trailer
As I said above, to me it seems like ProPLAY -- for now -- is not really a user-side gameplay feature, but rather a new technology that 2K uses behind the scenes to more efficiently and accurately capture animations. So, for us gamers it's basically just more animations... which is great, but there's nothing uniquely new-gen about an animation. When they say something like "Revolutionary new ProPLAY technology* ... *Only available on new-gen", the common inference is going to be that it's something too high-tech for old-gen, or a new sort of game mechanic that would be too cumbersome to implement on a dying platform (the same way porting MyNBA / Eras backwards to old-gen is obviously not worth the effort).
But once 2K has used ProPLAY to capture these new animations, and once they're converted to 2K's animation format, there's no technical reason why they couldn't dump it all into the old-gen library of animations as easily as they could on new-gen. If anything it would almost seem harder not to, since it's less complicated for them if Player DNA is identical on both gens (i.e., only one dataset to deal with, rather than two slightly different ones).
Thus I wonder if old-gen may indeed get all of the core animations (i.e., everything selectable on the Edit Player screen), but maybe just not the subtle, under-the-hood stuff they may sneak into individual players. If they're really holding everything on new-gen only, it almost seems like going through extra effort to deprive old-gen, as a strategy for getting people to upgrade. I don't care personally because I'm staying on 2K23 anyway, but it's an interesting change from how they've operated so far.Last edited by vetmin; 08-15-2023, 10:30 PM.Comment

Re: NBA 2K24 Gameplay Enhancements Revealed with Trailer
The jumpshot contest strength is unrealistically over powered
Mike Wang percentage contest system is not how basketball works at all
Great shooters make highly contested shots regularly, regardless of how tight a defender play them while taking a contested shot
The current contest system promotes some of the left/right cheese tactics online because speed boosting away from a defender to get open for a shot is way more effective than using most of the sizeups that only gives small amounts of space to take a shot thats usually a contested miss
I think 2k needs a contested shot meter
A special shot meter (tougher to green)
Similar to the dunk meter that helps you get off contested shots by positioning your player correctly before shooting
That way the game still remains a bit skill based while also playing more authentic to real life play/flowLast edited by Peaceful dash 88; 08-15-2023, 11:36 PM.Comment

This is why I'd rather see a 5 on 5 clip than these sizzle trailers. What Mike and the gang should do is do some live streams like what Madden did days before release. The devs for Madden streamed the top players playing against each other and talked about the changes in gameplay and how they countered meta plays.

Re: NBA 2K24 Gameplay Enhancements Revealed with Trailer
I'm a little underwhelmed by this information to be honest. Maybe underwhelmed isn't the right word, there just wasn't anything that makes me think 2k24 is a must by for me.*
ProPlay sounds cool, but I need to see it in full unedited gameplay footage. Sure the Durant clip looked nice, but I get the feeling this feature isn't as revolutionary as the marketing suggests. My impression is that it isn't some revolutionary new thing but instead just a sizeable increase in signature animations.
*To be fair, this is mostly due to my being satisfied with the gameplay of 2k23. I'm not sure there is any gameplay reveal they could have done to make me view 2k24 as a must buy. That will probably come down to improvements to MyErasComment

Re: NBA 2K24 Gameplay Enhancements Revealed with Trailer
Sorry but cannot help to be anything other then sceptical about any serious improvements. Seems like are just tweaking things until they decide to start over again. While that’s fine in general, but when you have so little control over passing and there is still a system of CPU AI that reads when you pass so steals are easily made, that’s a problem.
Pair this with canned animations and an artificial increase of speed so you cannot properly fast break and teammate + CPU do not leak out properly, then I don’t know why at least passing and speed is not addressed.Comment

If there ever was a year to start dropping live gameplay footage this would be the year to do it to truly show off ProPlay.Comment

I kind of feel that way too. I even think that the game looks more realistic with the Jordan Era Filter on lolComment

This is what I was thinking. There’s no way Durant vs Barnes clip could be a canned animation. Barnes on defense is moving almost 1 to 1 (to the irl clip) from the moment KD starts getting into his setup. There’s just no way 2K implemented a canned animation that last that long.
I sense something pretty special here to say the least.
