    Re: My Player Progression Strategy

Im really confused with My Player mode now. Im a 6'3 180 (Athletic) PG and during the combine a had an average grade of A+ and averaged 27 ppg, 6 apg, 5 stg and went 5-1. I then went on to be drafted in the 1st round by the Knicks, 29th overall. After playing all 6 summer league games avg 17 ppg, 4 apg (lead team), going 4-2 with a grade of a B, I was not picked up by my team or any other team and now have to play in the D-League....Whats up with that!!!???

You have to win your matchups and make sure you get at least an A (a+ preferably)for all games. I did that and was able to bypass the D-League.

Due to the Bulls trading away a few players I have slid into a horrible spot sitting out the last minute of the third quater and half of the fourth. Another game lost becuase the computer lost another 10+ point lead to get me back into the game down 11 and they again showed 0 hustle or fullcourt press. While I ultimately dont care if they win or loose (still getting my A+ each game) it would be nice to win atleast more then 1 game out of the last 10.

            Re: My Player Progression Strategy

Okay so I just got to the All Star Break, so I will just do a little summary of MY Player so far.

I got drafted in the 1st Round, 30th Pick to the Cavs. I got through the summer league and stayed with the Cavs to avoid the Clone Glitch. After the 4th training camp game, I got sent to the DLeagues. After a nice showing in 7 games with my team. The Cavs decided to cut Chucky Atkins and bring me up. I played pretty well and after a few game, they made me starter.

            Transactions so far...
Dec 17th... Cavaliers Waive Chucky Atkins
Dec 17th... Cavaliers Bring My guy up
Jan 23rd... Cavaliers trade Jamario Moon to the Clippers for DeAndre Jordan
Jan 23rd... Cavaliers Trade Leon Powe to the Nets for Chris Douglas-Roberts
Jan 30th... Cavaliers trade MO Williams to the Hornets for Emeka Okafor
Feb 6th... Cavaliers trade Zydrunas Ilgauskas to the 76ers for Samuel Dalembert, '10 2nd round pick

My guy is rated 72 overall. and is averagin 12.4 PPg, 2.3 RPG, 9.9 APG, 1.2 SPG, .2 BPG, 2.3 TOPG and has a .694 PG%

I was rookie of the month in December.

Cavs are 38-16 and atop the Conference

LMAO that trade makes absolutley NO sense on any level.

I had a similar thing in my player experience. I'm playing with the Thunder (7'5 centre) and we are stacked with centre's (Etan Thomas, Kristic and myself) and the cpu decides to trade away our starting PF Green who is playing great for Ramon Sessions. So now rather than a great young Pf with range we have to start Nick Collison and Sessions gets to ride the pine behind Westbrook. :/

I don't know WTF to do with this game.

I made an All Around PG, I can be WIDE WIDE WIDE WIDE OPEN, and everything is a brick. Most of the time I get no separation, and I end up making amazing passes, only to have the CPU go into idiot mode and pass up a wide open shot and play around the world.

On the topic of trades. There has been 15 trades in my My Player in the first season. I cant even think of a valid reason for most of them. It seems like 2K just went crazy with the trades on this game.

I'm starting to think this mode isn't for me.

I have yet to get higher than a C- for an overall grade during the summer workouts. I get what I think are good looks and brick every single one.

My defense is solid, some how standing on the wing alone I ask for a pass and apparently thats not a good time, especially when the guy with the ball is about to be double teamed.

I really need tips, because this is so aggravating.

It was actually hard for me to get above a grade of B at first too. You just have to play smart. You can take a few contested shots but always take the shots when your wide open, layups or dunks are a huge plus, try and have a few assist during each game no matter what position you play, Double Team Defense gives you a nice boost, a rebound here and there helps also and just make sure you don't give up a lot of points on D. I'm in the playoffs now in my My Player and have an average grade of A. I only average 10 points a game but thats because i limit my shots. I can only play 5 minute quarters because i don't have DC but it still all applies to any quarter length.

Ok now, I'm 29 games into my season and I'm averaging 18pts 12.6 rbs, 3.8 ast. 1 stl and 2blks on 66% for the wolves. Man they traded Cory Brewer for Rudy Fernandez(sp?) And man what a diff!! In his first game he hit 8threes(8 for 8) and had 37 pts! My player is rated 66.. it would be higher but the last 5games, I tried on getting my dunk rating up and I will continue until I get to 80. After that I will work on my shooting. I play on modified superstar 9mins btw

                          That's the thing though.

I may commit one turnover in 20+ minutes of play, ask for one bad pass, and throw up one ill-advised shot, and those alone set me back to anywhere from a D+ to a C-. When I get an open look, I take the shot, but 95% of the time it doesn't fall. Since I don't get good averages I get no skill points, since I get no skill points my guy has next to no moves, he can't drive to save his life, make a lay up, or a close-mid range jumper.

I hate that my team sucks.

If it weren't for me averaging 33 ppg and 4-5 assists we would lose every game.

I am in the final stretch of my first season and I have the Jazz in 3rd in the west, so it isn't too bad, but relying on my guys to hit shots or take wide open shots or even play defense gets old.

I am in my 9th straight game of scoring 40+ points, with 2 games in the 60's. I am a damn rookie, where is my help!

Sounds like my first player all over again. What I did was started over with a athlethic SG (wanted the speed right then and there) and did layup / vert first then work on adding points shots starting from the inside out. My guys isnt maxed out by any means but I opted to take that approach instead which has worked to get my guy into the NBA (only 5 min quarters here which sucks but what can I do) and hopfully continue to have success.

While scoring points is a help to the points you accumilate its not a necessary evil so to speak. You need to play a "complete" game of basketball. Good passing, assists, boxing people out, getting rebounds, setting screens (which IMO is huge since you can set X amount per 24 shot clock if your struggling shooting the ball), steals and blocks (which I get some of but dont go out of my way to get them), filling the lane properly, good shot selection.

Granted there are a good # of them I didnt list but I can not score a single point till halftime and still have a B or B+ at halftime.

                              Hope some of this helps.

For those keeping up with MY player progression, I got cut on the 3rd wave of training camp. Bayless torched me for 21pts 9assists and 1steal.

Oh well....I'm inthe D league playing for the red claws (Maine) and my team sux.

I get my mins at the 2 spot and I'm a 6'1 180 pg...lol and I even play the 3 sometimes so go figure.

Now to the topic...I progressed a point (52 to 53) and did nothing but upped my shooting in traffic and a few spot points on handles.

I like the fact that I'm progressing slow because it makes the game that more fun.

Thanks again to Kcarr and the few of you that are here giving out soild advice. Keep up the good work!
