Re: Your Myplayer Career (NBA 2K11)

I'm a good part of the way through my rookie season and have yet to see a Jordan letter or get any endorsments...do I just need to keep waiting? It seems like most people have gotten these things a lot sooner than me. I just missed a month with a severe ankle sprain, so I'm somewhere in mid-January...averaging about 19 points/game with an athletic shooting guard.

Well we steal the throw in and the ball is in my hands with the clock about to hit 0:00 I'm about 3ft away from the actual 3pt line and got the ball off good....the freaking ball actually rolls around the rim before getting spit out and the Celts hang on to win 99-100 in game 7 of the eastern conf finals.....I'm actually surprised we made it to game 7 because we were down 0-2 before tying it up 2-2 and eventually went 3-3. I had a career high 36pts that night to.

However I just felt our team chemistry wasnt there at the start of the series, hell we had to play Atlanta to 7 games the series before, and I had to carry the team to wins in games 6 and 7 of that series because LeBron and D-Wade were just not getting it done, I thought the Celtics were going to sweep us because of how poor the Big 3 were playing the first few games. I opted to stay with the Heat but will not hesitate to leave for either the Bucks, Mavs, or Rockets (who lost in 7 to the Celtics in the Finals.)
      That's pretty ****.

I pretty much gave up on My Player mode. It's too hard and too easy. It's too hard in terms of getting your rating up. Its too easy in the sense that even if you're like a 60-something overall player you can still drop a triple double consistently.

Its also not very realistic, I played for the Celtics and after three games I replaced Paul Pierce in the starting line-up. A rookie rated 60-something gets the starting job over Paul Pierce after three games? Would literally never happen in real life.

Too many trades too. By mid-season the Celtics traded away Paul Pierce and pretty much every bench player on the team.

Just picked up the game on PS3. Started a Myplayer SG that is a scorer. He is anything but a scorer right now. I am terrible on defense (giving up 28 and 25 in my first two games). I am projected as a mid second round pick by the Lakers.

Any tips on getting better. I used up all of my drills. Last game I had a B- teammate rating and I am averaging 11 ppg.

One question, do the custom sliders I use in regular games transition over to Myplayer, or is it just a base slider set?

I feel you. Had a similar thing happen to me last night. I was having the best game of my career (30+ pts, 9 assists) in the 3rd quarter. We call a TO. I get taken out of the game and then... it just freezes. To make matters worse I forgot to save after the previous game which was a 'key game' (where I racked up almost 4000 SP) so I lost out on all those points and 1.75 games played.

In the end I guess it worked out though. I was so mad that I was on a mission when I replayed the game. I ended up going off for a career best 41 points.

#1 Up your dunking just enough so you can throw down jams on fast breaks. It'll give you a tiny boost to your SP when you dunk instead of lay it up, and it'll increase your team grade much more. How high your rating has to be depends on your height and vertical rating. I would add a couple points, then go to the "shoot around" to see if I could dunk uncontested. Once I could I stopped adding points.

#2 Speed is the most important stat in the game. All athletic skills are very important actually. Use all your drills on the dribble course and keep re-doing them until you get speed. It may take awhile, but speed is so expensive, it is worth it. I bought like 5 points of speed early (while it was "cheap"), then used every other drill to max it out.

#3 Stop once your speed gets to one before your cap (I cap at 95 so I stop at 94). When it's time for a new drill, sell a speed point, save, and redo the drill until you get your point back. If you are lucky enough to get +2 speed, sell the second point as well. Use the extra points to upgrade other stats quite a bit.

#4 Being a specialist is always better than being a generalist early. Find your niche and stick to it by maxing it out. Then move on to another skill to max out. Many on here subscribe to maxing out midrange shooting, then the shoot off dribble and shoot in traffic skills. Then either expanding out to the 3pt line or in to the close range shots. After getting my dunk up to the bare minimum needed to throw down and buying a few speed points, I dumped all my points into midrange. I continued to dump all skill points there until maxed and get speed via drills until (almost) maxed.

#5 Getting vertical maxed early is important too as it helps on offense, defense, and rebounding and it is really cheap.

#6 Effort means more than the result. If a guy scores on you, it is okay as long as you play good defense, because you'll still get rewarded. If you don't get a board, you still get points for boxing out. Make smart plays (like taking open shots within your range), and you will be rewarded regardless of outcome.

#7 When playing defense, know your man. If you're playing Kobe, deny him the ball, play him tight, call for doubles if needed, basically concentrate on D. If you are playing someone who is never involved in the offense, play the passing lanes, sag off for the potential rebound, or play for the fast break. Also, don't abuse the turbo button on D. It's rarely needed. But, you can bump and body a player nicely with the L2/Left Trigger.

#8 Know your playbook. Assuming your coach isn't fired, you can figure out the playbook in the main menu of the game. Look at the plays that best put you in a position to score or to set up a teammate for an assist. When those plays are called, follow them through, when they aren't cancel the play by hitting, L1/LB and make something happen yourself. When you get the ball early or get a rebound (non-fast break), call a play you like, hand the ball off, and get in position.

#9 Save whatever milestones you can for Key Games (games against rival teams, or when you are a starter, elite players at your position) since you get double the skill points in those games.

#10 Don't kill yourself over offensive and defensive objectives. Getting a high teammate grade and winning are much more important. Don't lose sight of that by taking bad shots to get "8 Dunks/layups" or getting burnt in the passing lanes to get "record 4 or more steals". If the 200 points are THAT important, restart to you get something doable (i.e. take 8 jumpshots in a game)

All I can say is keep playing and it will eventually click for you. My Player is a PG and I was drafted by the Heat in the 2nd. I was so bad I got sent to the D-league. In the D-L I still didn't play all that well. I was constantly getting C+ to D grades. Never could crack a B rating. Somehow I managed to get called up to the Lakers. In my first pro game I scored a whopping 3 points (5 minute quarters). I was frustrated like you wouldn't believe and thought I'd never get the hang of it.

Then I upped my quarters to 10 minutes and around game 3 or 4 with the Lakers something just clicked for me and now I'm balling. I'm about 10 games in and am consistently scoring 20+. I'm still rated 48 OVR so it's not like my player is drastically better or anything.

Believe me, I understand how tedious and frustrating the combine games, summer circuit, and D-league can be when you're new to the game. But once you actually get on a pro team it rapidly becomes much more fun.

Since you want to be a scorer I'd recommend putting a decent amount of SP into 'Consistency'. I can tell a difference since I did that with my PG. My shooting ratings are still all hovering in the 70's yet I go on serious hot streaks from time to time.

If you are getting burned defensively then boost your 'On Ball Defense' and 'Defensive Awareness'. Also upping your 'Speed' and 'Quickness' will help. But I'm assuming you don't get a ton of SP after your games since you aren't playing so hot. But once you start playing better you will get a lot more SP from your games. A bit of a catch-22 I know. Trust me, it will all click sooner rather than later.

Don't up your defensive (or offensive) awareness..That does absolutely nothing for your player in "my player".

I believe it's default sliders because there's many things in the game that happen much differently on myplayer than exhibition(such as scoring, i do 10 min quarters on myplayer and the teams average 20 less points than with my sliders on exhibition)

But just keep playing alot and you'll get used to it. Other than scoring, make your guy good at rebounding and/or assists, that boosts your grade up alot. I played the first time around and gave up after 10 games cause my guy sucked and was drafted mid 2nd round. I played 2k11 normally for a few months then played again and I got picked late 1st round but am now doing real great(top 10 in league in scoring and leading in rebounding mostly cause im doing 10 min quarters while cpu sim is 8)

I created a 6'7 sg from ohio state and ive been drafted to the grizzilies as the 1st round 24th pick overall during my 1st round of games i didnt score well but grabbed a few rebounds and kept a decent b grade average on defense it was mainly getting round the screen and putting a hand in the face of the shooter on the 3 attempt

After getting drafted i did some drills and kept increasing a range of attributes which is y i hav a rating of 45 and wen it came to the summer league games i improved evrygame and we went 2-2 beating the lakers by 20 i had 37 points and 12 rebounds which got me a lot of SP and gave my confidence a boost and thankfully i managed to keep my place in the team

Weve started 2-3 although we hav beaten lakers and hawks and lost to the t'wolves, mavs and warroirs but ive had to put in a trade request becoz i dont want to challenge oj and become more of a sixth man at a team with weaker guards im also annoyed that im always open and z-bo and marc gasol always fade away in the post

i hate my coach. had one block to go for my first triple double and 10 blocks in a game. it was a key game too. like i said i had one block to go mid way through the 3rd and the coach subs me out. he puts me back in with 30 seconds left in the game... that cost me so may points.....so what ever that is times 2.

I took everyones advice and after going through the tutorials my guy has improved drastically. I went in the second round to the Pistons and in my first summer league game went 27-8-6.

I still can't dunk though. I'm 6'7" and my dunking and vertical are 31 and 67 respectively. I guess my dunk needs to go up.

Nice! That's a crappy team for a 2-3 to go to though as they have a glut of guards and swingmen. Stucky, Gordon, Rip, Tay, and T-Mac to contend with. Also, I'm not a fan of their bigs.

                                Two glitches I hate...

                                1) Not getting credit for an assist (and getting a "Bad Pass" teammate grade penalty) if the ball is it all touched or deflected by the defender, despite it being a good pass resulting in a score.

                                2) Getting credit for an offensive rebound for just tipping the ball even if you never rebound it. I've gotten like 3 offensive boards at a time just tipping the ball to myself trying to get a rebound.
