Gonna update my Detroit Association. As I said in previous posts, I am trying to limit trading, and really only trading where it shows a benefit for both sides and while also retaining draft picks in both years.
For those of you that want a good "Sim" plan where you don't play ALL 82 games - I defined a 50 game PLAY schedule. You play all opposing conference teams ONCE (15 games) - all of your divisional games (16 games) and every other team in your conference once at home and once on the road, except for one team where you only play them once (research your team's schedule, and make this one of the conference opponents you only play 3 times, each team has 4!) - and this gives you 19 games, for the grand total of 50. So you are still hugely involved, but can get multiple seasons with a ton of play even playing 12 minute quarters.
Here's what I've done to refresh (and then update):
The first thing I did was fire my assistant coach, hiring a Jeffery Kemp who is an A/C/B/A. I was able to get him for 1.32M so I signed him for the full 6 years, hoping that potential works to his defense's advantage and makes him a slightly better teacher. Cannot wait to get rid of Kuester, but couldn't afford it as I also...
Fired NBA Scout with 3M contract (who was a D/D I believe, incidentally) - picking up Maurice Wall for 1 year at a C level and B potential. Had to still save money for scouts, but any improvement here was good.
I kept my initial scout Chad Thorpe who is a C/C, because I was getting strapped when I signed his newest counterpart Horace Wheeler who is an A/A. I could not afford to sign 2 B/A scouts, so I took one GEM and picked up a D/A (Ray Davenport) for a year. He can scout my 2nd rounders, while my main scout will focus on the top of the draft and lottery with 2nd looks provided by Thorpe.
Retained Mike Abdenour as he is a B level for 1 year at 700k. He's a great trainer in real life, and I felt the money was better spent to get a good scout, better NBA scout, and much better assistant coach.
Before the start of the season, I traded Ben Gordon and Charlie Villaneuva (the two contracts that should have got Joey D fired, and the two players as a longtime Pistons fan that I absolutely detest as I believe they wrecked what was remaining of our proud franchise) - along with my '12 1st rounder and 2nd rounder for Corey Brewer, Kevin Love, and the Wolves '11 2nd rounder.
I immediately shipped Brewer to the Cavs and MY '11 2nd round pick for Jamario Moon and the Cavs '12 *1st* rounder. Happy there. Brewer was a starter role who would have taken a major morale hit and ratings decrease for me, for a rotation guy who can shoot the 3 and a 1st rounder (which in Cleveland is bound to be a lottery pick!)
In my last preseason trade, I shipped Austin Daye to the Raptors straight up for Julian Wright strictly for role reasons.
Played in to 10/31, and then went on my normal "morale/chemistry/contract situation" check that I do every couple games. Tayshaun Prince's agent informed me that he was fully intent on shopping the free agent market. I would have probably offered Tay a 2 year deal, as I love him in real life and he was one of the few remaining pieces of our greatness, but I put him into the trade finder...
First offer was what I took. Philly offered Iguodala and their '11 2nd rounder for my '11 2nd rounder and Tay. Apparently, they didn't like the 4 years he had left on his deal, and Tayshaun's expiring contract will give them a chance at Melo, I assume. I felt it was fair (it was trade finder at very least) and had solid sense behind it, so I pulled the trigger.
I am currently 3-4, having won 90-68 in a played opener at NJ. I simmed a loss to OKC 77-93, and lost to Chicago 95-81 in a played game. My team then simmed a win over the mighty Celtics at home 92-86, and then the simmers won the back-to-back at Atlanta 89-80. Day off, and then the simsters couldn't pull off the triple for the week, losing 82-89 to Charlotte on the 5th, and then another on Sunday the 7th at home with Golden State, 80-88. Portland is up next and they are on my play schedule for the Away game, so I'll be in Portland playing that game instead of the simsters.
For those wondering, my Western Conference schedule PLAYED games gives me 8 home games and 7 away, and out of the conference games, I skip playing Orlando at Home, so out of my played games, I play 25 home/25 road. Easy to setup, and keeps you immersed. Feel free to try it if you love the allure of 82 games but want to sim some but not enough to not feel involved!
As for keeping draft picks in my trades, I still have a 1st and 2nd in 11, the 1st being mine (I'm assuming it will be a lottery pick) and the 76ers 2nd rounder, and I have the Cavs 1st in 12, but no 2nd rounder. I can live with that, and I feel my trades were fair.
Will update more later, maybe I'll get a response this time!

EDIT: Also wanted to mention that I didn't consider moving Greg Monroe, even though he is a 4 star trade chip. Here's the top 5 trades I could pull off if I moved Monroe and his trade weight (most with another player):
G. Monroe (67/B-/20), R. Stuckey (74/B-/24) for Stephen Curry (80/B-/22) and Brandan Wright (64/B/23)
Monroe and Rip (77/No Potential/32) for Steve Nash (83/None/36) and Josh Childress (77/C+/27)
Monroe and Rip for Tony Parker (78/A+/28)
Monroe and Stuckey for Al Horford (81/B-/24) and Pape Sy (63/D+/22)
But the kicker that I wanted to take if I vowed not to move him and build around him instead was:
Monroe and W. Bynum (71/B-/27) for Eric Gordon (78/A/21)
Can get BIG talent for young big men. I wanna stay somewhat Piston-like though.

STARTING LINEUP:
Ben Wallace (74 OVR) C
Kevin Love (82 OVR) PF
Andre Iguodala (79 OVR) SF
Richard "Rip" Hamilton (77 OVR)
Rodney Stuckey (74 OVR)
Tracy McGrady is my 6th man, but currently injured and I'm only playing him like 14 minutes thru the minor injury. Bynum plays a quarter at point. Jerebko is listed as a Prospect and he splits with Moon and Maxiell at both forward spots, with Monroe getting bigger and bigger minutes at C. Ben is old and is getting sluggish or tired a lot after games, so I keep upping Monroe (and he's playing like he deserves it!)
Here's my total minutes, listed in parentheses:
Stuckey (35), Hamilton (33), Iguodala (35), Love (STAR for me/37), Wallace (27)
Monroe (18), McGrady (Hurt/14), Bynum (11), Terrico White (Prospect/8), Jamario Moon (8), Maxiell (8) Jerebko (6) - So yes, I'm playing 11 deep all at least 6 minutes. Hoping the prospects go up or the vets gain some trade value. Going to be a lottery team, need the value.
