Re: How's Your Association Going? (2K11)

Great post atlyoungin! Glad to see other people have such a commitment and loyalty to a team to play two seasons and heading into your third with them. I too just finished my second 82 game season with the Heat and I have won the championship both times, and I am one game into my third season now, and yes I plan on playing all 82 again, with the exception being if I lock up the East before the season finishes I will simulate the rest of the regular-season games against the bad teams. Also it's good to see that, for most the most part, your team is still how it looks like in real life. I too haven't been able to let guys go, with the exception of letting Jamal Maglorie go via free agency, and Juwan Howard and Zydrunas Illgauskas retired. Anyways, great to see that loyalty and commitment to your team, nice one!

      Nice write up ATL,
How do you feel about the trades that happened concurrently in real-life though? with bibby & pick to wizards, you'd be missing out on Leslie(or Taylor), and no bibby, and with harris to the Jazz.

Nice write up though, looks like a really fun real association

I think in real-life, the Hawks did the best they could with the trades, but it doesn't really matter. They're pretty much stuck in the 4th-6th seed in the East and I don't know how they can move up. The "big" 3 of Joe Johnson, Horford and Josh Smith probably aren't really good enough to carry the Hawks past the 2nd round, but they're good enough that you don't really want to move them because you probably won't get good value. They still need a point guard (Hinrich isn't really the answer) and will likely need to replace Jamal Crawford after this season.

I think it's much easier to win with them in a video game, than in real life.

Thanks! I wish I could play more of the regular season games, but I usually have to sim against the badder teams.

            [29-25 PHO year 1/All-Star/82gm/10min]

I've really hit a wall and dropped 16 of my last 20! DAL obliterated me by 35 going into the break. I lost Gortat for the season with a broken foot 10 games ago, so i'm giving up 10+ off.reb. a game. In the time I had Gortat I was unimpressed.

At the all-star break sitting in 7th place. Nash made the team 18.5ppg 9.3apg. I was hoping Vince [22ppg] would replace Kobe who's injured but they took Monta instead.

I was thinking about purposely tanking the rest of the season while i was losing legitimately the last 20 games but i realized i've won too many games to get a really high draft pick. So now i'm determined to make the playoffs with the almighty Robin Lopez as my C, and Collins [woot woot!] backing him up HAhaHAha i'm doomed...

            PG Nash | Brooks
            SG Carter | Dudley
SF Hill | Pietrus | Childress
            PF Warrick | Frye
C Lopez | Collins | [Gortat out for season]
            Lakers | Michigan | Dodgers

Re: How's Your Association Going? (2K11)

              I started my Association with OKC Thunder. Ended up trading two first round picks to the T Wolves for Kevin Love. Love is a complete monster, and I feel like he's the type of player that's the missing piece for this squad. Also, I took into account that Love seems to be a great team player, and that he's the type of player I could actually see the OKC brass making a deal for. So my lineup thus far looks like this;

              PG- Westbrook
              SG- Harden
              SF- Durant
              PF- Love
              C- Perkins

              Bench- Sefolosha, Ibaka, Aldrich, Maynor

This is a great article-- what is your approach to beating the Heat?

My wife tried unsuccesfully to get me to stop playing the game and watch The Bachelor" with her.

I lost to the Heat in Game 7 of the NBA Finals (LA Lakers). VERY DISAPPOINTING! I finished Season 1 and gave my bench a total "Extreme Makeover" because they were complaining too much about PT, and to be honest they were all old. I kept my starting lineup (Kobe, Monta Ellis, Ron Artest, Pau G, Joakim Noah) and traded for #11 Draft pick and some 2nd and 3d year players. I had acquired Mike Bibby as a backup PG and found him to be totally useless also. Byebye Bibby!

I'm looking to the future-- the post-Kobe era-- and can see myself building for the future with:
Rookie PG Barkley, Monta Ellis SG, Derrick Caracter at PF, Joakim Noah at C

I'm still in Season 2, pre-season so I'm working out my lineup and gameplan.

The Heat are sitting at 14-8 in year 2 and have dropped 2 straight to Atlanta and last night to Oklahoma City. Atlanta blew us off the floor in Miami and wound up winning by 15. The next night in game 2 of a back to back the Heat traveled to Oklahoma City. We hung tough for 3 quarters as we traded baskets though out the game. Going into the 4th quarter we were down 5. Kevin Durant was un-conscience from beyond the arc dropping 6 three pointers and cutting to the hoop and being fed from Westbrook who ended the game with 18 assists to go along with his 19 points. The Thunder pulled away for an easy 11 point win avenging an earlier loss to the Heat.

Next up the Heat travel to Golden State to take on the Warriors then go to LA to face the Lakers to finish off a 4 game road trip over 6 night. The Heat sit 1/5 games out of first to the surprising upstart Indiana Pacers.

The Heat also have promoted Tyson Chandler into the starting rotation at center and have regulated rookie center Mo Timmerman to third string center as the experiment of Mo starting has quickly failed. He is much to raw at this point and needs some more development and gym time. Jorel Anthony is the primary back up at center. Once Juwan Howard heals from a sore knee he will replace Timmerman as the 3rd string center.
Had a nice vacation and got home yesterday. So I popped in 2K11 and proceeded to play. We went into Golden State on a west coast swing and they absolutely crushed us. It was a bad loss. 100-77. Wade and Lebron had foul trouble all night. It was one of those games. Bosh led all scorers for the Heat with 34. Wade finished with a paltry 12 points and fouled out with 4 minutes left in the game. Lebron could not hit the side of a barn and scored 13 points and got 11 from the line. He also fouled out of the game with 2 minutes left. Mike Miller's shooting woes continue as he was 1-12 from the field for 2 points. James Jones stepped up with 10 points in just 18 minutes.

The Heat then traveled to Los Angeles for game 2 of a road back to back to face the Lakers. The Heat was on a mission to break this 4 game slide and traded baskets with the Lakers the entire first half to go into the locker room down one point 47-46. Lebron and Kobe were showcasing their MVP race both going into the half with 24 and 23 points respectively.

The second half started with a 10-3 Laker run. Coach Spo though made an adjustment an forced fed Dwayne Wade and got him iso'd on the older and slower Kobe Bryant. With Lebron and Bosh setting picks as well Wade started to implore his will and got Kobe into fouls trouble (4) with 4 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. Wade started to take over the 4th quarter along with Lebron who was schooling Ron Artest to the rack. Midway through the 4th the Heat took a 7 point lead. The Lakers then brought in Kobe with 4 fouls at the 7 minutes mark of the 4th along with Lamar Odom. The Lakers then chipped away and with 34 seconds left Kobe hit a 18 footer to tie the game at 101-101.

The Heat called a full time out and called for a Wade iso on the top of the key on the left side. Wade went right then left...Kobe did not bite....10 seconds on he shot clock he passes back to Lebron who then whips it right back to Wade...pump fake...Kobe bit!!! Wade drives by him and gets mugged going to the rack. with 2 ticks left on the shot clock.

Wade drains the first free throw to take a one point lead. With the Staples center at a fever pitch he drains the second FT. Heat lead 103-101. 12 seconds left and the Lakers call a TO. Odom inbounds...Kobe gets the ball....Lebron and Wade double him...he forces up a long three at the top of the three point line under duress. Clank off the back board....game over.

The Heat take the Lakers down in LA.

Memphis is up next as the Heat sit at 15-10 and 3.5 games out of 1st overall in the Eastern Conference.

Since the Melo trade,a really fun team to play with is the Denver Nuggets. They have scoring (J.R., Al Harrington, Chandler), defense and rebounding (Nene, K-Mart, Birdman) and solid PG play (Lawson, Felton). Also, they have a bunch of characters and have the league record for tatoos.
The Clippers wish they were still in Buffalo every day!

Enjoyed reading your post ATL, I also have Drew Cook on my bench - Shaq is retiring at the end of the season, so considering spending some reward points on improving him to be my 2nd center for season 3.

Had a decent finish to the season with my Clippers team, and actually finished with the 5th seed in the West with a record of 19-13 (not bad at all from 5-9 half way through the season).

Got the Spurs in the first round and absolutely obliterated them 2-0 (3-5-5-7 format). i played my two best defensive games of the season to hold them to less than 90, and good scoring from pretty much all my starters got me through easily.

I now have the Lakers in the second round over 5 games, and from previous experience of playing them it should be a close series. Whatever happens this year I may up the difficulty for next season, even though it will most likely end up with me getting absolutely battered. I may keep it on Pro and change to simulation sliders, this may help keep the scoring numbers down realistically.

I just started an association with the Jazz, in the post-Deron era.

                                Trades:

Paul Millsap, Raja Bell, Earl Watson, NJ 1st (forced trade, from Deron deal) for James Harden, Eric Maynor, Daequan Cook, OKC 1st

                                Free Agency:

Jeff Pendergraph (1 YR, 1YR Team Option)

Going into the season with a young and talented roster looking like:

                                Starters
                                PG: Devin Harris
                                SG: James Harden
SF: Andrei Kirilenko (massive expiring, will look to deal around deadline)
                                PF: Derrick Favors
                                C: Al Jefferson

                                Bench
Mehmet Okur (getting older, looking to move if right deal presents itself)
                                C.J. Miles
                                Gordon Hayward
                                Eric Maynor
                                Jeff Pendergraph
                                Ronnie Price
                                Francisco Elson

                                IR
                                Daequan Cook
                                Kyrylo Fesenko
                                Jeremy Evans

Can't wait to play my first game tomorrow!

                                Superstar. 10 Minute Q's.

EDIT: Also, I'm going to keep my eye out for a coaching upgrade. I have roughly 6 Mill to improve the coaching staff and the intern "Tyrone" guy isn't going to cut it. He's on the hot seat!!
