Re: Rant: Helping you out of necessity and insipid rage

You are forgetting a 3rd reason for adjusting sliders. You play the game (win or lose is irrelevant) and after several games and looking at the stats you realize that it is a sub par representation of basketball. So you alter sliders on both ends to increase the realism.

It goes back to what da czar says. Don't play videogames, play basketball.
Now certainly you can do that with the default sliders, but the outcome will not be as accurate as sliders can be.

Back to your point earlier about winning 37 games is unacceptable (not exceptable, ask your English teacher about the difference) that is a point where we have a fundamental disagreement. You earlier stated that Jordan Crawford is averaging 18 ppg in your association. Talk all you want, but if you are averaging 18 points with Jordan Crawford then something is not right. I would have a problem with that.

I like the challenge of taking a bad team and rebuilding them to turn the team around. But if I could win now, what is the point? I adjust sliders until I find that perfect balance where I can get to the rim with Wall almost at will and where if I try with other guys it is an exercise in futility.

Granted you said it was a double ot game, but looking at your photos of the team stats for that game they look unrealistic. Both teams shooting over 60%? Half of the total points were in the paint? I don't like those numbers.

Honestly these are YOUR opinions I think you should respect everyone else's as well. Just because you say slider adjustment is cheap doesn't make it so. Why do you think they offer sliders? Furthermore why do you think they offer title updates on games?

Games change once they hit the masses. Games get exploited people find ways to cheat the system. It's the same for FPS and any other online game. The NHL series offers a series of tuner updates so anyone can chose the way they want to play the game.

Lastly don't preach to people about FUNDAMENTALS. I bet just about everyone here has played real ball watched it on tv and knows the strategies and rules of the game. You come off sounding like a scorn gamer over people who cheese online. Get over it if you don't like how people cheese don't play online. If you don't like sliders play on default with your fundamentals.

Just take a look at your own Simulation sliders next time you get a chance and tell me that those values weren't adjusted to create what you consider a pure "sim" experience. A real purist plays Default, game speed 50, whatever the difficulty. You're playing on a slider tweak yourself. The truth is, like so many player attributes in this game, the slider sets seem to have been slapped together without much thought. "Simulation" isn't hard-mode for most of us and it certainly doesn't properly simulate the real thing.

Some of us just mess around to achieve better versions of "sim", sometimes even by strengthening the CPU opponent. Again, just looking for realism, not an easier jumpshot.
Realistically, how much of what I'm saying is even being read? Caps or not. I'll do everyone here a favor since my representation of my game is being over shadowed by my initial rant (and not even the rest of my first post. Give me your favorite gameplay sliders and two teams and I will play through them and show you what the differences are. I can type forever about what altering sliders do and don't do but pictures would be better. First come, final serve.

Next, Did I say I was a purist? Show me ANYWHERE *and yes it's the caps "anywhere"* in this thread where I say "I'm a basketball purist" or "I'm a 2K purist?" Like I said earlier in this thread, the comments here are directed toward the so-called "sim ballers."

Come on now just skimming through what I say to reply with basically what amounts to "STFU, I don't use sliders to weaken the CPU, you suck" does what exactly?

The thing that gets me as you act like we suck for adjusting sliders when I'm sure there are plenty of players who would smoke you, I'm telling you right now, I would.....I'm one of those people who LEARN the game, and have been playing online since 2K1 and there's plenty of others too.. We play $100 a game up at the shoe store...Dudes GETTING IT IN...Since you think people who adjust sliders don't know the game.....I can cheese with the best of em if I ever had to because I learned the game...But I'd prefer 100/100 times to play realistically....But I also want REALISM....Jordan Crawford avg. 18 ppg in his rookie season is not realistic, I don't care what team he's on........Thats acceptable to YOU....Its not acceptable to US.......What the hell is so hard to understand about that?

And our games have intangibles also where players may bust out every once in a while and do things they shouldn't do.........ANYBODY should be able to live with that........ONCE IN A WHILE...And thats the fundamental difference.....

Usually, I adjust sliders because the cpu can't make enough shots, because their help d isn't good enough, because they don't go the foul line enough.....because MY player Danny Granger is dunking on 3 people..........THATS WHY SOME PEOPLE ADJUST SLIDERS...Yet you keep missing this simple point..........YOU play to win against the cpu......I play to win against a human........When I'm playing the cpu, I don't really care if I win or lose.............I'm pissed if I lose in an unrealistic fashion or if I win unrealstically...Either way, I'm adjusting sliders after the game...

*sigh* Im 45-8 online. I could care less if people cheese online at this point. In all honesty, my first 2 losses came from cheesers but I worked at it. Ultimately, It only makes them one dimensional. It's annoying to have to dumb down my Defensive game to adjust, sure, but it's doable.

Now, if you looked through some of the pages on here, you would have seen that people have had questions about basketball strategy, I've answered pretty thoroughly, even suggested plays for folks and situations on when and where to use 'em.

Real question, when the updates hit, are you still going to use sliders? Roster Updates hit often enough and people still use custom rosters, I'm curious to see what you, specifically, will do.

Hah, you used a smiley that has boxing gloves on in a reply to a person named "The fight." Well done.

Re: Rant: Helping you out of necessity and insipid rage

One more thing I'd like to add the rosters out of the box were a problem at least for me. I had games where andrea bargnani shot the ball 30-35 times a game on 9min quarters. That's ridiculous at least to me lol. So i started to use Nogsters rosters with his fixed gameplans and the game is even more realistic to me.

Do I think people go overboard sometimes with gripes over gameplay? Sure but I wouldn't want to have it any other way. If it wasn't for the gaming community putting there thoughts forward and asking for more from the developer we wouldn't have such a great product.

I'm glad that there are so many like minded people on here looking for the ultimate experience. Be thankful we have sliders and updates. The testers don't catch everything nor do the programmers.

I used to spend hours doing my own roster updates waaay back on my Sega Genesis. Now I got people who are even more detailed oriented than me. I don't cheat the game I use sliders to make the game as realistic as possible to me in a shortened game. It will never be perfect I have to sacrifice things like shooting percentages but I can live with that. So my team put's up realistic numbers in every other part of the game.

Why talk about it. Just be about it. I'll be home 7:30 EST tonight. We can settle this discussion on the 360. If it doesn't matter to you, we can play by your rules and mine. Sound fair?

I play to win period. Whether I'm at a tournament, playing my people, playing bums, playing the computer, playing against my VIP or whatever. Telling me that "you don't really care if you win or lose" after you say things like you know dudes, like yourself, who would smoke me does what exactly for your points? Who the hell cares about having good looking losses? Who am I, the Bucks? Come on!

By the way, Look at the Hawks first 4 games. If he's starting against the Grizz, 76ers, Wizards and the Cav's, he's not getting at least 14? Again, I use Bibby in situations in Association and barely if any time playing actual people. I run a three (large) guard line up to counteract the size that I don't have in the front court. Yet again, a coaches decision.

                      I'll wait for your response.

That depends on the update I'm enjoying the game as it stands right now. If the game plays worse to me than i'll adjust accordingly. That's what's great about sports games. You have a CHOICE. Unlike say Gears of War where the game was changed so much on updates and I had NO CHOICE but to conform to the gameplay.

Now I will somewhat agree with what your saying if your gripe is about ONLINE gaming alone. Did I like all of the updates on Gears of War? No but here's the difference I love Gears so I make the adjustments to keep playing competitively online. I do not play 2k online anymore I used to love that but constant cheesing and quitting made me choose to play with people I know online or just offline.

So like I said if your gripes about online gaming I understand your frustration because you like the game as is and don't want the rules changed I get that. The question is will you adjust to the updates?

Lastly I'm not taking a shot at your help of other players coach. I'm responding to the cheap shots about people's personal preference over sliders. If you don't like sliders don't use them. But don't bitch about people who do. We all have the choice of how we want to play unless of course your playing online ranked games.
