Do signature shots, layups, free-throws, and dunks help your player's attributes at all or are they just there for custamization?

Re: Official NBA 2K12 My Player Thread
Just got done with my rookie showcase with this character and ended up with a B-. I only have 7pts, 3assists, and 1 rebound. Honestly I am really bad at this game. I have been reading over this thread and I don't see how people score so many points, assists, and rebounds in their rookie showcase. I can't seem to drive the ball and at least get a layup. I am a 6'8 245lb SF.
DON'T GO TO A TEAM U DO NOT WANT TO PLAY FOR!!!
Start over; try to get 15pts and match your other stats!
Don't concentrate so much on scoring you can get a high draft selection with low points and med other stats.... ie, 8pts, 5 rebs, 4 assists, 2 blocks and 2 steals will put you into the tier above the Sixers, Knicks, on draft day!Comment

Re: Official NBA 2K12 My Player Thread
That being said make sure you select ones you are comfortable performing on the court with the controller. Most of the signatures are set on Default so don't worry too much if you didn't tinker with them.
However, you can mix them up to give your player some court personality. My PG, uses Jason Kidd's post moves and Rondo's ball handling, but, I use Rookie Guard to do a basic layup (finger roll).
Packages purchased are custom animations, however, you must have the skill attributes to match the package or it won't work!
For example; Dunk Packages are no good if your Dunk (65) and Vertical (70) are minimum ratings to perform a dunk.Comment

CENTER/ATH/KINGS/2nd/OVR: 84
Nothing less than a playoff berth for The Eraser!
Kings: (8-4) , 1st Pacific Division, 3rd Western Conference
Key Game(s) - Star Matchup- Brook Lopez
VS. Nets: I am shamed to say I pretty much took the night off despite dropping 20pts (FG: 67%), 10 Rebs, assist and 3 blocks. I held Brook Lopez to just (6pts) thru 3 qtrs, the AI got bored also and switched my matchup to Okur (3 pts specialist), he fared worst against the Eraser scoring Zip.
The Kings were on fire from the 3 pt line, (F. Garcia 22pts), that probably contributed to my less than aggressive play...they didn't need him tonight...
Kings 92; Nets 82
What did you say Kim's number was Again?
<img src="http://media.nba2k.2ksports.com/screenshot/d9665d10.jpg" height="475px" width="710px" border="0" />
Skill Points: Boosted Free Throw to (80), Shot Close (84) and bumped Off Rebound (86), would like to get SC and OffR to 90, by the time he reaches the 20th game of the season. After that enhance Layup (55), Shot Medium (70) and give him some Emotion every now and then. After that pretty much all focus will be on Abilitities.
Notes: 2k Sneaks Magazine Cover, Heir Jordan, The Eraser tries to Fill Big Shoes..., maybe we will be getting a new shoe soon from Jordan? If not the ability to edit my shoe(s) to make them more basic so all my players can use would be great.Comment

Athletic play type is difficult to score in the begining. Basically all you can do is a good layup.

Re: Official NBA 2K12 My Player Thread
I really liked playing on Superstar difficulty, but, the breakdown of the plays every 3rd trip down the floor drove me insane. Mind you I play every game with the Plays On, so the long consecutive losing streaks and my team's failure to beat obvious lesser opponents with good play on my part was personally too much for me.
Frankly, I am waiting on my PG/ATH/Knicks to get some Abilities before trying moving up again. With the thought since I am controlling the offense and Teammate Chemistry is in the (90s), I can limit the breakdowns with "excellent" play on my part.
Nevertheless, I wish you luck if you move up....don't forget to make a backup file, so if you lose 5 straight with the type of results I mentioned above you can just go back (DO OVER).Comment

Re: Official NBA 2K12 My Player Thread
Small Forward - Wing Position, the big man with a good mid-range jump shot that can run with guards and finish on the break. A rotating defender that can block shots and hit the boards on the weak side keeping sneaky guards from getting free ones.
The Basics:
Consistency, Off & Def Awareness (u want a +5 difference for Offense if you are going to be a scorer)
Off:
Shot Med & Close, Shoot in Traffic
Def:
On Ball D, Def Rebound, Low Post D
Consistency is probably the most attribute in this game.
Defense: Now since you are on the wing you need perimeter defense to go along with your good speed so you don't get burned. Bad defense kills your Teammate Grade and it will frustrate you to no end. You also want to be able to grab some rebounds if you have a nice game throw a little at your Vertical this will help you block shots, finish on the break and slam dunk.
Offense: You should have good success on the break so hustle on ALL loose balls, do not assume the guard will drop it. You are starting with a decent mid-range jumper, so shoot from the wings, try to stay closer to the key then the 3 pt point line! Drive to the 1/2 way part of the key and pop those shot also, its in your range (Shot Close).
Look to upgrade your IMPORTANT skills to the 70-80 range in your first 20 games.
Tidbits:
-Getting stripped: Ball Security
-Use the pump fakes/fake pass to get an open looks at the basket
-Missing un-contested layups: layup
-Getting your shot blocked: Vertical & shoot in traffic
-Every 8 games add to your Stamina & Free Throws
-Use your Player Card - Attributes - to monitor your progress (both layers - Ratings)
Behind me I am sure several folks that really play SF will chime from their experiences.Comment

Okay, MELO & Stoud will get hurt so you will get a lot of playing time w/o feeling guilty.

Re: Official NBA 2K12 My Player Thread
in my personal experience, the difficulty in My Player really doesnt actually effect your player. i mean, i can drop 30+ with no problem whether im on Pro or Hall of Fame. the only difference is, on higher difficulties your teammates suck and the AI is unstoppable and makes 70% of their shots.Comment

Re: Official NBA 2K12 My Player Thread
I just finished my athletic Pg's opening day with the Jazz it went great. In the 1st half he got about 8min of play time, he had 7pts, 1 reb, 1assist, 1stl. After the half he didn't get subbed in until 7:30 left in the 4th, that is when he caught fire. he had 13pts, 3reb, 4assists in the quarter. he was able to get easy layups hit fast break shots and drain a few jumpers. He finished w/ 21pts, 4reb, 5assists, 1 stl, 2to's. He had a B teammate grade. great 1st game, got another key game after the game vs the Grizzles.
PS we beat the Rockets 100-87
PSS He is a 6'7 Athletic Pg.Comment

NOT SO GOOD;
Folks I posted this tonight in the Glitches/Bugs Section, but, I figured it was important to let you guys know directly since this glitch effects your enjoyment in the mode. So I am re-posting it here!
Platform: PS3 Game Mode: My Player Bug/Glitch: Since the new update;
1. the crowd reaction of the Home team to the myplayer is reversed. The player is constantly booed once he takes possession of the ball. This is extremely evident when playing the Miami Heat and Lebron James does his "chalk up" on the Visitor's floor at the scorer's table.
2. the Halftime report highlights are reversed, the Home & Away team is identified incorrectly.
3. the game still freezes if you try to edit instant replays. freezes while loading or while in the actual highlight.Comment

Re: Official NBA 2K12 My Player Thread
Just curious, do most people here play on All-Star or Pro? I've been using Pro since it's the default and hard enough, but I may switch if All-Star provides a better experience.
Also, for me, I got drafted in Phoenix with the 13th pick. I'm a pass first PG and I'm supposed to be Nash's replacement. Well the weird thing is, my minutes have gone from 7 to 30 in my last game in the matter of five games. The team has found it beneficial to put me in at PG and move Nash over to SG when I come in. This is due to me sucking hardcore at shooting. I average about 4 points a game and my FG% is around 22% lol. I need to cut down on turnovers for sure.
However, this is the first time I've ever played "My Player" and it is amazing. I'm having such a blast trying to have my player make it in the NBA.Comment
