Re: NBA 2K12: The Official Association/Online Association Thread

Just started an association with the Celtics. I can't wait to rebuild this team around Rondo (who I plan to send to jump shooting camp). Everyone else is fair game. I'm leaving the roster as is until the off-season, then all hell is breaking loose.

6 games in, KG is making a strong case for a one or two year contract to finish his career. Averaging 21/10 right now. Pierce is aight. Allen gives me a steady 14 ppg.

For those who have run Celts associations, what's the route you've taken for year 2?

Im doing something really fun and different with my association. First of all, I knocked the length to 29 games instead of the 82. Im playing on superstar with sliders, and 8 minute qtrs. Playoff format is 3-3-3-5. I find this extremely fun because it gives me this throwback high school basketball feel, and I dont feel like i have to sim games, I can get in a good amount of progress playing all of my games, with realistic gameplay..

Anyways, I started this with the Phoenix Suns, and the first thing i did was trade away Steve Nash to the Pacers for essentially Paul George and a 1st round draft pick. And i traded away Shannon Brown and Grant Hill to Memphis Grizzlies for Mareese Speights and Tony Allen. Starting lineup is Telfair - George - Dudley - Morris - Gortat. I would start Speights, but his midrange is absolute insane, and refreshing to come off the bench. Plus I have this fascination with starting rookies -___-

We are only 3-9 right now, which is cool. Im really looking for a PG, but I think im aiming at drafting Anthony Davis and playing him at the C, and picking up a PG in free agency for a bargain. We will see..

I'm really tempted to undo the Chris Paul trade to the Clippers and either run with the Hornets with Paul or, trade him to the Lakers like proposed and have Odom, Martin and Scola on the Hornets.

        What do you guys think?

It would make the season different, I hate Blake Griffin so the Clippers record isn't worrying for me, they also don't use Paul well in the game.

I think this trade illustrates the point of the poster earlier about ridiculous trades. The Pacers wouldn't trade Paul George for Steve Nash straight up, much less include a 1st round pick. Why with Collision and George Hill would the pacers trade a guy that is destined to be a future all-star (he made the team in my 2nd season of association) and toss in a future 1st rounder when the odds of them getting past the Heat or Bulls is quite small. Highly doubt Memphis would go for the 2nd trade either but it's not as bad as the first. Memphis is over the salary cap with a large amount tied up in 4 players. Allen has 1 more year after this while I believe Brown has 2 or 3 more. Hill is an expiring contract but so is Speights, so in essence Memphis took on an extra year or two of contract for Brown to get a player that isn't really superior to Allen (better O for Brown, Better D for Allen) and traded a serviceable big man for a fading small forward that will have limited time behind Mayo and Gay.

I know some folks play with the "whatever the CPU will give me is fair game" standard but if you do, be aware that a vast majority of trades the CPU will agree to are just horribly lopsided or don't make sense and would never be completed in real life.

I usually keep everyone for the first year, then trade Rondo either in the offseason or at the start of the next season. He's great, but he's 26, and I don't think I'd be able to build around him well enough to deliver a championship in his prime. I trade him while his value is the highest so I have more young pieces to build around. I like to trade for the top pick and get Anthony Davis. It's not too unrealistic because any team without a franchise PG would swap Rondo for the #1 pick and something else in a minute. Rondo is a guaranteed player.

While all that is extremely true...

Have you noticed that im playing a 29 game season, and 8 minute quarters? My season length and quarter length aren't "realistic" either. My point is...

Everybody that owns this game payed $60 dollars. I think that them playing $60 dollars gives them the right to play the game the way they want to play it. Do you expect me to change my association because you pointed out the obvious fact that my trades are unrealistic? Well I'm not..Im going to continue to play my association the way I want. You dont like it? Play yours the way you want, douche.

                Association One:

Jeremy Lin: 15 PPG; 10.1 APG
Rip Hamilton: 15 PPG; 5 APG
LeBron James: 35 PPG; 8 RPG; 5 APG
Andrea Bargnani: 25 PPG; 12 RPG; 3 APG
David Lee: 15 PPG; 10 RPG

*On this Association, it's very deep, and I have the luxury of having LeBron only play 32 MPG, and still have a very sucessful and winning formula. This team has lots of chemistry

                Association Two:

Jarrett Jack: 15 PPG; 8 APG
Isaiah Thomas: 15 PPG; 4 APG
Danny Granger: 23 PPG; 7 RPG
LeBron James: 36 PPG; 7 RPG
Josh Smith: 26 PPG; 10 RPG

*Not as deep, but having a Big 3, along with good pieces surrounding like Jack, Thomas, and MarShon Brooks is good.

                Help? Thanks.
The first one. In the second one, you have too many players playing out of position. BTW, in the second one, if you have MarShon, why not start him? Isiah is WAY too short to start at shooting guards.

Go to edit player and change them to a role player. What I do is change them to prospects in the edit player screen (even if they're older than a prospect is supposed to be, such as 26+) OR just turn roles off altogether.

I'll soon be doing a fantasy Pistons association, where I attempt to rebuild the hole that Detroit has put themselves in!

Feel free to follow it if you wish. I'll be writing it like a news report after each game.

Re: NBA 2K12: The Official Association/Online Association Thread

Started a franchise with the Celtics playing 29 game seasons (I always sim the first season or two), using a tweaked BedwardsRoy roster and a tweaked chiliad draft class (for what I feel is more realistic ratings/potentials).

Simmed the first season and the Celtics JUST missed the last playoff spot by a game.

I scouted lots of players and Andre Drummond really caught my eye, and I really wanted him. The Kings, going into the lottery had the 2nd-best shot at getting the #1 pick, so I decided to trade Rondo and Bradley for Marcus Thorton and their lottery pick.

The Kings already have scorers and need defense, so Bradley is a better fit for them on a cheaper deal and is 4 years younger. Obviously, they get Rondo (with an improved jump shot, might I add), and can now move Evans back to the 2, where he belongs. They lose a top pick, but there was no one in the top 5 that would've really been any good fits for them (maybe Barnes, but then they'd have too many SFs, so really they had to trade the pick).

I get a good young scoring SG to take over for Ray Allen once he's gone, and I get a most-likely top 3 pick and hopefully could snag Drummond.

Well, I went through the lottery once and ended up getting the #1 and #13 pick. I drafted Drummond #1 overall, Terrence Ross #13 overall (a bit of a reach, but he filled a need), and J'Covan Brown in round 2 (simmed the 2nd round, probably would've taken him anyways).

Wanted Andre Miller to hit the FA market, as he'd be a perfect fit for me for a year, but he wasn't, so I grabbed Ramon Sessions and prevented him from staying with the Lakers. Then, I grabbed AK-47 from FA to be my 7th man (behind Drummond).

So, going into year 2, here's my lineup:

                          Sessions/Dooling/Brown
                          Allen/Thorton
                          Pierce/Kirilenko/Ross
                          Bass/Johnson
                          Garnett/Drummond

Might decide to bring Allen off the bench, haven't decided yet. Both him and Thorton are scorers, it's jut a matter of playing youth versus experience.

PRESS RELEASE: NEW GM HIRED, DETROIT EXPECTS CHANGE

The time has finally come. The Detroit Pistons have been bought out by a new GM. This GM's name is "Jon Shepard." Mr. Shepard, having no background in the industry before, bought out the Detroit franchise without much notice. Here are the Palace Papers, we were able to get an exclusive interview with the new owner to get a better idea of what he had in store!

Detroit has a lot of big contracts with players whom many say don't deserve the salary. What are some plans you have to change this?
"Trades. Those who are important to our success, such as Monroe, Stuckey, and Knight, need a solid team around them. I'll move what pieces I have to in order to build a playoff team."
