Spank, here's exactly the problem. 2k apologists can always take refuge in the fact that for any given horrible, game-breaking problem, "most people" won't even notice it. That's because most people who own this game are 13 year old kids who wouldn't notice if three pointers were worth 5 points. Basketball is a complex, intricate game, and most fans of it are casuals to whom NBA Jam would seem like an accurate sim. 2k knows these are the majority of its customers, and they have no other basketball game to buy.
The worst part is, things like the double team issue probably won't be fixed next year, because fans complain ten times louder about things like Kobe's mid range shot rating than the presence of fundamental basketball concepts like double teams or offensive fouls. And it's not like these are long standing issues that the team is trying to resolve and just can't- stuff like this gets added every year due to pure laziness. 2k is the only sports company that it a solid bet to break at least three aspects of the game every year that were working just fine last year. This year it's AI rotations in association mode (working well last year, now the league leader gets under 36 mpg), double teams (working fine last year), all big men increasing in 3 point tendency as they progress, and AI teams willing to trade 1st rounders for 2nd rounders (also fine last year). And when it comes to patch these issues, they pretty much do the MINIMUM possible effort they possibly can, fixing the least they feel they can get away with.
Real 2k fans know that whatever great features they add and whatever refinements to the gameplay they make, it'll still be a glitch ridden, unpolished product that makes Bethesda look like conscientious developers. What'll it be next year? Turnovers removed from the game? AI randomly releases one of your players every month in association? With 2k, the possibilities are endless!
