What happens if you DON'T pre-order NBA 2k13?

They aren't forcing you to do anything. If you don't want the ASW, then don't buy it when it's available. It like anything else - if you want it, it free. Just buy the preorder the game instead of waiting. If the game isn't worth a first day purchase, then ASW won't be missed, right? -

Personally, NBA 2K has always been a first day purchase for me, but if we flip the script a little bit and it was MLB 2K making a comeback and offering the Home Run Derby and the 1984 Tigers as pre-order exclusives, as someone who'd want to wait for the game to be released (to read reviews, test at a kiosk, etc.) before gauging whether it's quality enough for me to purchase in full, I'd be screwed out of content I'd actually very much end up valuing. I think that could be the case a lot of non-super hardcore NBA gamers could find themselves in.
Whether it be current lack of funds, a willingness to wait and see, a commitment to holding off until the holidays, being a child in a house with parents who don't buy everything in sight, or flat out not knowing the ASW deal exists in the first place, I think it's a bummer so many people apparently will not have access to a neat mode 2K seemed to spend a moderate amount of time on.Comment

The best pre-order incentive is 1 month early demo. If people like the game that early you will lock your sales that early on.Comment

Nah. ASW is a good incentive. A demo a month before the game is released is a really boring incentive. What we know so far about NBA 2K14 - FAQ/QA:

I guess you didn't get the point. ASW should be part of the game for anyone buying it at any time. Not pre purchase incentive.Comment

I just thought that a demo 1 month a head of time was not an as good incentive as ASW pack. What we know so far about NBA 2K14 - FAQ/QA:

Re: What happens if you DON'T pre-order NBA 2k13?
I remember once upon a time when 2k games used to already have all star weekend for free! now we have to pre-order for it? lmao please, 2k has disappointed me and has just jumped on the EA bandwagon, I was going to pre-order it anyway, now I'm having second thoughts.Comment

DLC/pre-order bonuses bring in millions of additional dollars, and as much as the sheer greed of it all sucks, i can't say i blame 2k for jumping on the bandwagon. They are after all, running a business.Artificial intelligence is no match for natural stupidity.

Re: What happens if you DON'T pre-order NBA 2k13?
Either way, if pre-ordering truly is the only way to acquire the All-Star Weekend, it feels like a terrible strategy in terms of providing a full gaming experience. There has to be oodles and oodles of consumers who either don't know they need to pre-order in order to acquire an awesome portion of the game or can't pre-order, and to think they'll all miss out on something like that is a little unfortunate.
Those stores are advertising the game as offering All-Star Weekend with a Pre-Order.
I can't see how there are oodles of clueless customers. Consider how many people posted in this thread that didn't understand the pre-order mandate vs. those that did.
We may be a simple community in comparison to the world, but groups this large usually do not differentiate as the numbers grow larger.
An overwhelming more number of gamers do know about the Pre-Order mandate for All-Star Weekend and I'm sure 2K is aware of this or they wouldn't have made it this way.
As for those that can't Pre-Order, I do understand the dilemma. You bring up the Christmas gift story. Truly, I understand where you're coming from but also consider that by Christmas time the value of the game has decreased to the point that the parent purchasing the gift is spending less money.
There are wins and losses everywhere for the consumer. All companies want to push merchandise as quickly as possible. Offering incentives is the best way to do it (or one of the best ways).
It may cause an issue for those that want to wait or can't purchase now, but that's the risk-reward of Pre-Order vs. Waiting.Last edited by CMH; 09-12-2012, 01:25 PM."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. Most gamers purchase their games from stores that sell video games.

To use the example of my brothers one more time, they're 16 and 14 years old and they're basketball die hards. That said, they don't follow the release of video games and the only time they visit a video game store would be to purchase a game they hear is out. Usually, I end up with the game on day 1, I visit them a week or two later and that's when they find out the game has been released. I don't think they're oblivious, they're just regular guys who like basketball, video games and 2K, but they don't like it enough to research its release or notice a random cardboard cutout trumpeting exclusive pre-order content in the electronics section at Meijer.
As you mentioned, the group here at Operation Sports is smaller than we ever want to believe. For every poster here, or even for every person who "likes" 2K on Facebook, there's another who will never gather the proper information to learn they must pre-order to gain All-Star Weekend.
Personally, I feel as though the wisest decision would have been for 2K to be transparent about the process, explaining those who pre-order NBA 2K13 would receive the All-Star Weekend as a gift, as a sort of thanks for the consumer's willingness to be on board from the start. 2K would have then been best served, in my opinion, to explain and assure others that the ASW would still be available to those who didn't pre-order, but for a small fee. That way, even if consumers didn't know about the pre-order bonus, they still wouldn't be locked out of the mode altogether.
I actually have a feeling the ASW really will be available in a fashion similar to what I noted above and for that, I feel somewhat disrespected as a consumer. I know it doesn't count for much, but I certainly don't like being falsely backed into a corner of "pre-order or you miss a portion of the game you really want" when it turns out there will actually be numerous ways to acquire such content. Either way, I do not agree with how 2K handled this situation.Last edited by VDusen04; 09-12-2012, 01:52 PM.Comment

Re: What happens if you DON'T pre-order NBA 2k13?
What if your an American serving overseas and the only place that you can pick up a US copy is on base at the BX (which they don't do pre-orders).
Now you can buy it online and pay for the shipping and all, but its not wholly fair for all consumers."Most people would learn from their mistakes if they weren't so busy denying them"Comment
