Re: What happens if you DON'T pre-order NBA 2k13?
Some of the arguments make some since:
1. Why not include it in the game? Well, that can apply to ANY incentive to pre-purchase: why not just include it in the game.
2. Why not provide is as DLC for purchase later? Then folks will be crying about being nickled and dimed.
3. I'm overseas and can't pre-order. Why can't your "provider" pre-order? Have you checked? I'm assuming you did. In that case, why not have a family member or friend pre-order a copy for you and ship it to you? Can you order online anywhere? All questions - not assumptions. But I'm sure there's a way to get around this. I have a cousin in the Air Force, so I'll check with him.
4. Features in the game cost. They are not free. I would bet that if it wasn't going to be DLC or THIS, then it would not even be in the game. The company has to get a return on the investment. Now, it's saying something that it cost no $ (as long as there is not later DLC purchase option later). Apparently the previous pre-order offers didn't work. They are trying something meatier.
5. Finally - the always present Double Standard. Every company and every game has pre-order incentives. Every game have the right to do it, except games from 2K Sports? They are owned by Take Two. Rockstar does it. Bioshock does it. Civ does it. I'm sure there will be one for X-Com. So WHY on Earth can't 2K Sports/VC do it without all of the negative backlash? What would you suggest they offer instead of ASW mode? I'm PRETTY sure that the thinking was - "Let's provide a pre-order incentive that people would REALLY like instead of junk". Not "Let's bone people that don't pre-order!"
The bottom line is that if you REALLY want this mode and you were going to get the game anyway, then pre-order the game. It's absolutely NO additional cost to you. There's no excuse not to. And ignorance doesn't fly. If you don't care enough to pay attention to the pre-order campaign, you clearly wouldn't care all that much about a particular mode. No offense. Again - servicemen are the exception. If you're care enough to complain here, then you obviously want it enough to go pre-order the game. But if you STILL want to complain, why not be more constructive and make suggestions for alternatives. Should it have been the Dream Team? Apparently not considering that a similar deal last year didn't go over well enough to do it again. And people complained about that as well. So tell VC what would make a nice pre-order package.Last edited by Boilerbuzz; 09-12-2012, 07:18 PM.Comment

Right now, what we know, is that you have to pre order to get it. If you don't have a source then don't post assumptions like this.
MY OPINION is that it will be purchasable at a later date. I don't have a source but that's what I think. What we know so far about NBA 2K14 - FAQ/QA:

Re: What happens if you DON'T pre-order NBA 2k13?
I just want to throw it out there...
Some game stores are providing pre-order incentives of their own. I traded in a game today and the store staff told me I can get extra 5 bucks if I put that value towards the pre-order for any game. Check out your local stores this might be a good time to do it.Comment

Re: What happens if you DON'T pre-order NBA 2k13?
as has already been expressed there are countless reasons why some ppl may noy want to or be able to purchase the game day 1. so im not going to go into that. but anyone who simply says if you want it then purchase it day 1 or lose it imo lacks perspective for other ppls circumstances beyond their own.
with that said, i may be able to offer a workaround that may help anyone who 4 whatever reason cant or doesnt want to purchase this or any game game day 1. i mean no disrespect to 2k as a company because im sure the game is worth a day1/new purchase, but things are not always that black and white and since 2k hasnt said if the add-on will be available later ppl gota figure something out. nor do i claim this will 100% work but im fairly certain its possible to work. nor do i claim that you should even do it especially if it will be released via dlc.
anyhow, if you live in the usa, simply go to gamestop and put down your $5 needed to submit your pre-order (you can cancel your pre-order at anytime, if you so desired). next since you have to pre-order im guessing the code is not inside the packaging. so most likely the code will be on the receipt.
so if you 4 whatever reason cant or dont want to get the game day 1, simply place the pre-order, purchase the game (do not open the game) write down the code on another piece of paper, then take the game back 4 a full refund. then when its a better time for you then re-purchase the game.
and as i write this i also now see the potential flaw in this and im very tempted to erase this entire post but i wont. ill just say this...if you truly 4 whatever reason dont or cant pick it up day 1 and you try this workaround to success and you believe the game is worth your money atleast when you do buy it buy it brand new. if money is the issue then just wait 4 the price drop. because i had 2k11 i waited on 2k12 4 a price drop and got it for $30 new.
as 4 why some1 like myself mite employ such a tactic, well i love gaming and i buy more than just 1 or 2 games/yr and as an adult w/ real bills i cant afford to buy every game that i want to play across alot of different genres. so for the most part i either wait for GOTY Editions to drop w/ all the dlc or until the game drops under $30. that way i almost always get a 2 for 1 deal for ever game i buy. tho if the games is absolutely worth it, like 2k11 (and im not claiming 2k13 isnt worth it) then i will buy it day 1. just like some music artist id buy their album without hearing a word of it and others i wont.
again im not saying this would work but i know from personal experience that not every1 can or is willing to buy any game day 1.
and 4 those saying why pay for it then return it, you ultimately get that money back to use in another way until you can actually afford for to lose that money 4ever.
anyhow if it really means that much to you its worth a try, association mode insight will determine my route.Last edited by TajDeni; 09-13-2012, 12:46 PM.Through Holy Union God Lives Inside For Everyone

good, I wasn't going to pre order because I despise going to gamestop. Looks like you can pre-order off the official 2k store with no shipping or tax fees.

Re: What happens if you DON'T pre-order NBA 2k13?
I'm glad we see eye to eye on the latter part of the discussion, but I still believe a very significant amount of folks buying 2K13 will not be knowledgeable of its pre-order bonus or will not be able to take advantage of it.
To use the example of my brothers one more time, they're 16 and 14 years old and they're basketball die hards. That said, they don't follow the release of video games and the only time they visit a video game store would be to purchase a game they hear is out. Usually, I end up with the game on day 1, I visit them a week or two later and that's when they find out the game has been released. I don't think they're oblivious, they're just regular guys who like basketball, video games and 2K, but they don't like it enough to research its release or notice a random cardboard cutout trumpeting exclusive pre-order content in the electronics section at Meijer.
As you mentioned, the group here at Operation Sports is smaller than we ever want to believe. For every poster here, or even for every person who "likes" 2K on Facebook, there's another who will never gather the proper information to learn they must pre-order to gain All-Star Weekend.
Personally, I feel as though the wisest decision would have been for 2K to be transparent about the process, explaining those who pre-order NBA 2K13 would receive the All-Star Weekend as a gift, as a sort of thanks for the consumer's willingness to be on board from the start. 2K would have then been best served, in my opinion, to explain and assure others that the ASW would still be available to those who didn't pre-order, but for a small fee. That way, even if consumers didn't know about the pre-order bonus, they still wouldn't be locked out of the mode altogether.
I actually have a feeling the ASW really will be available in a fashion similar to what I noted above and for that, I feel somewhat disrespected as a consumer. I know it doesn't count for much, but I certainly don't like being falsely backed into a corner of "pre-order or you miss a portion of the game you really want" when it turns out there will actually be numerous ways to acquire such content. Either way, I do not agree with how 2K handled this situation.
even any casual gamer will understand, if u dont pre-order a game, anything that comes with it will be available later on at price. if u dont like it, oh well, thats life.
for the kids like your brothers, who have their parents buy their games and only get games on special occasions, there just assed out. i know it sounds rude but thats life. everybody cant get everything all the time."on hoping there is a PSN flash sale before Valentine's Day"

Re: What happens if you DON'T pre-order NBA 2k13?
Oh cry me a river. It's NO extra cost. It's asking for an earlier commitment to buy. That's it. I don't see how it's THAT much of a chore for those of you who have no limitations in getting the game. I can see the point for folks that may not be able to pre-order (although with this day of online purchasing, I find that tough to buy as well), but folks act as if it's a DLC for purchase and it's not. THIS post is an example of pure dramatics.
Some of the arguments make some since:
1. Why not include it in the game? Well, that can apply to ANY incentive to pre-purchase: why not just include it in the game.
2. Why not provide is as DLC for purchase later? Then folks will be crying about being nickled and dimed.

Re: What happens if you DON'T pre-order NBA 2k13?
I can't tell if we're agreeing or not. I'd mentioned in the post you quoted that I thought it'd be great if 2K offered the ASW as a pre-order bonus but still offered it later for a small fee. Is that what you meant by, "Even any casual gamer will understand, if u dont pre-order a game, anything that comes with it will be available later on at price?" In that case, wouldn't my brothers be in luck, contrary to what you stated? I think I may have misinterpreted something.
thats is usually the case with most games. in fact, the only thing i can think of that was given out as a pre-order bonus that was not later available to everyone whether it was at a price or not is when something is exclusive to one system."on hoping there is a PSN flash sale before Valentine's Day"
