Just had an amazing game against the spurs. I was playing as the Grizzlies and Tony Parker was killing me. He had like 20 points and they were up by 10 going into the half. Well I knew I had to slow him down if I wanted to win, so I put Tony Allen on him, and that definitely made an impact. Also I see that added double on drive to the defensive settings and that helped tremendously as well. Well in the second half he only got about 10 points and by making these adjustments I was able to win by 5 in a close and very realistic game.

Re: NBA 2k13 Impressions Thread
do you know if the "layup contest" slider counts for inside paint shots? If it does, it might solve my problem :P though it might lower layup percentages which i think are fine, im just want to adjust the paint scoring. BTW, do you know if "inside" shots include layups that take place in the inside area or just standing shots that start from the inside?Comment

Re: NBA 2k13 Impressions Thread
Care to elaborate?...My general feeling on play levels is that the lower the level the easier it gets to shoot 3's etc...I know some folks think the opposite but I'd rather take my chances playing on HOF with the assumption that on that level shooting 3's etc comes with an increase in difficulty.Comment

I use to think that too..but pro is better..try it with slider adj.

Re: NBA 2k13 Impressions Thread
I'm going to get flamed, or ignored. Either or, that's fine, because I have some time to burn. By the way, I'm going to get flamed because my opinion is going to be pretty negative.
I'm an indecisive mofo. At first, I wasn't going to get 2K13, then... for the course of an entire day... I was going to get it the next day. THEN, I decided, after all, I wasn't going to get it.
I miss competition in gaming. Yeah, I play the heck out of Madden, but outside of playing d-bags and the consistent disconnects with the "EA Sports Do-Over", I have fun with its online interface. But look at Madden -- it's not a mindblowing series. No competition. Now, with EA Sports' basketball on the shelf for three years in a row ('No '11, no '12, no '13), 2K has... to me... been shut down and locked up. NBA 2K11, to me (again), is the greatest basketball game ever concocted. 2K12 was fun, but it felt more stiff, and the online wasn't as good as 2K11 because 3 pointers were more rampant as in comparison.
From everything I've seen and noticed, 2K13 is an improvement from 2K12, but only minor. To me, it's merely a $20 expansion pack. The meat and potatoes of the game, the core gameplay itself, is solid, but I don't want to play a game that's very much like its previous years (yeah, I realize I'm a hypocrite because I bought Madden, albeit Madden '13 is completely different from '12, but I digress) by paying $60. I miss the year 2004. If only 2K would have dropped 2K13 for $20 like the way ESPN NBA Basketball 2K5 was. How nice would that have been?
Thus, I feel like what another person said a while back -- I'm not a part of the targeted demographic. The flashy bling, the Jay-Z inclusion (the music is catchy in the game -- from what I've heard -- but I'm not a fan)... $60? Yes, there were 'thousands' of tweaks, minuscule tweaks, to the game, but so? I don't care much about "My Career". I'd play for a little bit, but eventually become mindnumbingly bored. I'm a 26 year old man and my ability to become an NBA player is limited.(Dumb comedy.)
What about the Association? I didn't hear a thing about it this year. And this year's online ranked seems about as yawn-coercing as ever. Heat, Thunder, Lakers! That's what the mode should be called. I know the 'scoreboard disappearing' bug/glitch will be gone soon, but eh, I'm about to fall out of my chair in a sleepy stupor.
I'll be picking up the game eventually. I love 2K basketball. But there are WAY too many better, higher quality games coming out (just my opinion; yes, 99.9% that you disagree) like Forza Horizon, *WWE '13, Halo 4, Assassins Creed 3 and Blops 2 (Black Ops 2 looks to be highly improved). That's $300. Add NBA 2K13's overpriced little tag and that's $360.
*WWE '13... yes, WWE '13. I'm not sure if any of you are familiar of the "Attitude Era" from the late '90s, but it was edgy, raunch, outrageous and incredible. The game is including that 'classic' era in this year's addition, and I'm buying it for nostalgia purposes. It's going to be like going back to my childhood. I can't wait. Halo 4 is another must, for me, because of playing with my friends. Halo Reach is my all-time favorite multiplayer game ever (barely above Halo 2) because of the memories and the times had playing with friends all night in the game mode 'SWAT'. Hoping to continue on another run with friends on Halo 4. But........... I digress. I'm getting too off-topic.
Hopefully this year's Black Friday sales will feature 2K13 at $30-40. I'm going crazy thinking about playing it, but I'm keeping myself busy. I really, really want it, but I need to hold out for the other games. Better, high quality games (again, just opining thy opinion, yo. Disagree as you have the right to do so and assert that 2K13 is better than the games I listed). I would skip this year, but again, love basketball too much, and 2K basketball was once upon a time my favorite series. I still want to clutch to that idea, but eh, looks like it's not a reasonable statement anymore with the lack of power to this year's feminine leap and curve of a punch.Comment

Re: NBA 2k13 Impressions Thread
It seems that the intangible amazing comeback feature is still present in the game. First, let me say that I play with the Bobcats, so last season's record might be a factor. But, if I play a good, solid, smart game, and I establish a comfortable lead, I don't believe that I should be penalized with the "since the 'Cats sucked last year, we cannot allow you to win this game" feature. After playing great defense and maintaining a steady, progressive offensive for 3 1/2 quarters, I have experienced the onslaught of incredible fade-away threes from just over half court with hands in the face, amazing turnovers, and "hands-of-stone" during my opponents' 4th quarter rallies. C'mon 2K, give me a break! My team sucked last year (and they will probably suck this year), but they weren't/aren't incompetent, they just lack talent. They don't ONLY play hard (they do play hard); they also play well. Recognize, dawg!Comment

No one is going to flame you, but this is an impressions thread for people that have actually played the game. You could have placed this in a blog...Comment

Re: NBA 2k13 Impressions Thread
One glaring issue I'm seeing, in MC and in regular gameplay, is that there seems to be no urgency of defenders to stop the ball in transition at ALL. This is on PS3 playing on SS/Sim style. I'll miss a shot and actually get back on D myself, but my teammates simply don't show any urgency to stop the ballhandler initiating the break.
They seem to be preoccupied with filling predetermined "lanes" instead. I've had a player like Darren Collison or Rodney Stuckey actually receive an outlet FT line extended and with 3 or more defenders in the backcourt, and proceed to outrun everyone en route to a layup. Sometimes IRL this can happen, but watching the replay I'd repeatedly see defenders in great position to stop the ball just ignore it.
Example: Melo is attacking down the middle of the floor; once he gets to the key area (in a full sprint toward the hoop and this is Carmelo we're talking about, he's not passing it), there are two defenders in the painted area-ish, but they--instead of paying attention to one of the league's best pure scorers attacking toward the lane--they run out to check their man on the wings, and Melo throws one down.
Here's hoping this is patchable. Or maybe this can be addressed via the DEF AWR slider? I'll check it out.NOW PLAYING:
NBA 2K16, MGS5
WAITING FOR:
Fallout 4
Wife: "Of course he's going out to get his 2K game at 12am, like he can't wait til tomorrow."
Wife's mom: "Be grateful that's what he's running out at midnight for."Comment

Re: NBA 2k13 Impressions Thread
OK, it's been a while and I haven't posted here yet (I think). The day I got the game (my wife bought it for me), I didn't log on to OS...because I was playing the game...and that says a lot.
The moment I played it for the first time (let's ignore the demo), it just clicked for me! Never felt it with any other 2K. Yes, I've had a blast with past 2K's, mainly the older ones, but this is much more than that.
Regardless of the issues everyone finds (don't even see many of them, but I don't analyze the gameplay like a scientist, as most here do), it's an amazing basketball game. It just has it. I'm having a blast! My Specs:
ZX Spectrum
CPU: Z80 @ 3.5 MHz
GPU: Monochrome display
RAM: 48 KB

Re: NBA 2k13 Impressions Thread
As people who support the game every year, we must have to "help" the developers understand that missing shots does not make the game boring. I know lil kids want to score at will, but I doubt they would get mad if they did not shoot 60% from 3 on average. I mean, WTF is this, that is not basketball at all. IRL dudes dont even make 70% of OPEN jumpers, how the F is it normal to hit 3's at a 70% rate rather contested or not. It gets worse when you actually do force a miss and your players dont even try to rebound the ball. I have yet to play a game online where there was less than 20 offensive boards (all together), and im great at this game. In 12 minute games in real life you will hardly ever see 20 offensive boards so WTF was 2k thinking when they let this slide.
Its just mind boggling how devs lie to the sim players to sell the game. Its Ok for the game to not be 100% sim, but its rediculous to barley ever miss shots with superstars no matter the defense.
Another thing that has irked me since 2k11 is the fact that devs have no idea that mid range shots are the lowest percentage shots IRL. I mean, its actually hard as hell to get a correct release for a midrange jumper, especially if its contested, or a momentum shot, why the F is this the highest percentage shot in the game. I mean, no matter who has the ball, if you drive and go into a momentum jumper around 15 feet it will go in about 90% of the time, making a guess, IRL I would say that league average is about 32%, how the hell is this the easiest shot to make. It could be *** **** Sefalosa, if he shoots a momentum jumper its gonna go in at a Michael Jordan rate. This needs to be fixed more than anything cause its been like that for 3 years, so the devs must think its "realistic".
Im not even trying to dog the devs but this is ridiculous ya dig.Comment
