    Re: NBA 2k14 Association Mode: The Good, the bad and the ugly (A more in depth look)

    First off, agreed with almost everyone here and second, excuse this kind of rant/wishlist/complaint/very broad and all over the place post I am about to do.

    One of the things that irk me the most, is how customization and editing - two of the 2k franchise most important pilars, yet more underappreciated - have been gradualy neglected and therefore, association.

    While not all issues could be fixed with editability and customization, many of the flaws could be lessen, handled or dealt with. Also, to a degree, we all have different ideas on how the game should simulate our view of the NBA.

    A greatly expanded editing and customization feature, would not only help 2k cater its two very distinct markets (sim/harcore & casuals), but by doing so, by giving us more and more options we would be complaining less and less ... some examples:

    * Players.
    - They have some ratings, tendencies, hotspots, sigskilss, animations, play types, YET some of them are hidden or ineditable and most significantly affect the oncourt experience (we cant design hotspots nor hot/cold zones, enough said).
    - We cant edit the players goals, so we cant decide what we think they prefer (a winning club, getting paid, what role they´ll have, expossure, city size or legacy, playing with friends, forming supersquads, preventing rivals ascendsions, etc).

    * Teams.
    - They have coaches and other staff members, but we cant alter their contracts, we cant "trade" them nor create them, we cant even edit their grades or performance value (this affect drafting, progression, sim engine and should affect oncourt teams performance).
    - We cant decide on what stance is a team/GM (stand still, trade active, going for youngs, going for picks, going for veterans, going for role specific, going for overall, for position of need; the same for drafting logic).
    - We cant alter teams chemistry nor rivalries (this affects attendancy and also, team records while simming, btw, should also affect teams oncourt performance of running plays and D rotation).

    * Others.
    - We need full CBA rules integrations (many, many things yet to be accounted).
    - No integral migration of rotation/roles edits when initiating association (like it once was, demenishing the time one invest on editing).
    - We need the option to have all players portrait to be their cyberfaces (all with same shot frame/angle, to counteract the dreaded black sylhouttes) and this should premeate into all modes, includding lineups presentations and roster screen.
    - We need to bring back NBDL and all related features like combine and summer circuit (so we can add some source and sort of say on players development and team roster movement and call ups).
    - We need to be able to either edit draft picks values or relate them to the mock draft rookies reflected on an specific timeframe (so if a rookie stands above them rest, that 1st pick should be threated alike, or if all rookies are seen alike, so should the draft picks value).
    - Still room for separating oncourt of offcourt variables, Total Sim Control is leaning toward that goal but still needs to be expanded and tweaked (we need ore range of results).
    - Having said that, we need to tweak the sim engine to further consider hystorical accomplishments, instead of only recent seasons (so we can have players averaging around 20 rbds, 13 assists, above 30 pts, 5 blks, etc)
    - We need to be able to do relocation, contraction or expansion (just because it has happened and is a part of the NBA).
    - We finally need bugless stat screens (glitched team records, players stats, team stats).

    ETC, ETC ...

    In sum, I see both (customization/editing options and association, online & offline) as very interrelated, while not the cure of all, improvements and expansion to the first, would certainly be a way of attention to the later, all while helping 2k broad its market share.

    I am hopeful 2k abandons the wrong ideology that custom rosters are their competition, when in fact, they should be seem as value adders to their game and enhancers of the experience, also as sources of improvement.

    I have HUGE expectations of the next gen consoles and their touted prowess, so here is to hope for the realization of all that have been said here by me and others, there shouldnt be more excuses: 2K14 (on PS4)** ought to bring improved association, customization and editing tools !

    ** = The same is true for XBONE too, is just that I preordered the other.

      We've been making lists like this for years, they're falling on deaf ears. Unless they've been taking all our requests and putting them toward Next Gen.

      I'm done with wishlists, i'm done with showing 2K the problems with their association. Absolutely done trying to get them to realize that you don't have to only cater to the online crowd. If you're not going to update the mode, at least fix the problems and don't break the damn draft classes.

      I'll give them a shot next gen, but if their association is just as bare bones as it has been for the past 5 years, i'm done with basketball gaming until they can do something.

        Sigh, I guess that would have to make do. Really upsetting how this hasn't been fixed yet. I traded Beasley and Lewis for Mike Miller + a fringe player.

Now if they arent ever seeing any playing time then that on you, but if they are seeing 8-10 min most games as role players they shouldnt be to upset.
        I always hate that Manu on the Spurs is never happy unless he is a starter and after a while wants traded, no matter how many minutes you give him off the bench, and Im sure it will be that way again from the sound of it. You would think 2k would atleast fix issues that have plagued Association in a year when they didnt add much to the game other than taking stuff out and a few tweaks to imprve gameplay.
        Ditto.

          Yeah and I like how they have their spokes-people posting / reading on these forums pre-release...Where you guys at now? We're trying to tell you what's wrong with the game and you are ignoring us.

            Well LD2K is still here, he posts almost every day. Thing is, if he is viewing our association threads, he's just not posting in them.

            However, as I said before, i'll give him credit for last year. Myself and a few other guys had a thread detailing changes Association mode needed, he responded and said he'd forward the list to the dev team.

            Now if the dev team read it, or even took notice to it is an entirely different story. Honestly, LD2k is pretty good at his job and I give that man a lot of credit for the flack he sometimes takes. Same goes to Ronnie.

              I don't know why console sports franchises haven't taken a page from Out of The Park Baseball. Ask those guys for advice, it's not like they're really competing since one is a text sim. They handle contracts, customization, trade, draft and FA AI nearly perfectly.

                I agree 100% with this and hope every year that NBA2k will beef up Association mode instead of always catering to the causal fans/online gamers. MLBTS I would also love to see them do this, but their franchise mode is a lot better than whate 2k offers us every yr. They could have atleast fix the glitches that makes Association mode almost unbearable to play. I bought the game thi syr hoping for changes, and a said if it was the same old BS glitched Association I would take a goo long look at EA's Live when I buy a PS4, and if there Association mode is playable I will go with them. Im tired of 2k catering to casual fans when it was us Association guys who made them the company they are with being the top selling basketball game even before EA quit. EA quit which had a lot to do with us Association people anyway, cause NBA2k was more sim, where the casual gamers stuck with EA.

                  casual? why can't association be a casual game mode like the modes? it's because of what you said before, there's just too much work that needs to be put in to make it enjoyable. tendencies you need to fix, ratings, potential, minutes... it's ridiculous. you have guys on OS putting in more work to fix the mode then the devs themselves..

                    I honestly get so sick of every year trying to fix the game just to try and enjoy Association mode, then come to find out there is a glitch with a record or stat, or a name is glitched, and all of this can happen if you download a custom roster or CAPs from 2k share. I never noticed the glitch if I edited the roster my self and didnt add anything from 2kshare. By the time I finally figure out the glitch and then edited the roster then wnet to Assoc. I lost interest, for 1 reason was because of not being able to use CAPs my roster wanst accurate with all players, and I always like to use Opening night rosters and when I would go back to back date it I would get duplicate players if I moved them around last yr, so I gave up completely.
                    I told myself last yr I wasnt buying the game cause of this BS every yr, but with gameplay improvements and blocked shot I decided to give it 1 more try, but if this stuff reemerges in Association I will be done forever with NBA2k.

                      Honestly, this is why I have a sliver of hope for next gen. With the faster machines, with more space and possibilities of what they can add, I think they can give us the deepest, smartest, and most enticing Association mode ever with the technology at their disposable.

                      Now the question is, will they take advantage of the new tech they have, or will they continue to cater to the online crowd, who imo have ruined this game for the real sim guys.

                      It's wait and see at this point. I know they CAN do something to make it great, but the question is WILL they?

                        Yeah 2k will have absolutely no excuse for next gen. With all the extra disc space, they have more than enough opportunity to fix existing issues and then add more for Association.

                          Can someone explain to me why they removed the pressbook and player highlights at the end of games? This is the first version I've bought since 2K11 and I was pretty bummed to find out they aren't there anymore. I played an Association league on another message board where I focused on fictional players I created for the forum members, and I used the pressbook and player highlights extensively to post screenshots of the fictional players in action. I'm about to start doing the same thing with 2K14 but this unexpected snag has really annoyed me.

                              Player highlights are still there. When you go to the boxscore, press square/X on your controller and the highlights will play.

                              You can do this at any time during the game.

                                So the latest roster update should have fixed the generated player issue. However the coach profiles are all defaulted to 50.

                                As a PC user...is there any way to edit these to play an enjoyable fantasy association?
