Re: NBA 2K14 Official MyCAREER Thread

Tried playing as a center, got picked by the Bucks, we're 1-5, getting blown out by the likes of Toronto and Cleveland. Opponents shoot 60% from 3, I lose 50% of defensive rebounds when I have the guy behind me perfectly boxed out (and I have Tenacious Rebounder sig) still lose vs. 3rd substitute centers... On offense they never pass me the ball even if there's a mismatch and I get deep down low against one of their guards my teammates never pass me the ball instead I get scolded for "bad call for pass" because apparently being 7" and getting in front of your 6"2-6"3 defender while under the rim is not good enough reason to ask for the ball...

On set plays screens only work about 1/3 of the time partly because the teammate I'm supposed to screen for will run off in a random direction before I can even approach his defender or the defender will simply go way under the screen or my player will try to set a screen facing the baseline, shoulder towards the defender... We commit 15 turnovers a game mostly guards not knowing what to do with the ball having it stolen from them during live dribble or dribbling out of bounds (twice per game- guaranteed) and there's nothing I can do about any of the above, except I can call a timeout when I see that one of my brain-dead teammates is about to dribble across the baseline. Still gonna lose by 25.

Overall it has been the most frustrating experience I've had in NBA 2k. Back to my PG.

Player morale, player and ball movement and defense are more important the higher the difficulty.

On offense I never quit moving and the more I move the better my teammates move. The old adage about passing the ball at least three times every possession is a good way to begin. Just remember that even in CG, they make adjustments - so don't keep throwing the same pass every possession.

On defense, I rarely leave my assignment - and only when they commit to baseline drives or a rebound situation do I collapse. 99% of the time I leave my assignment the opposing team scores.

For example in my last game, I had 0 points scored in the first quarter just so I could get the ball and teammate movement going. I had 3 steals and 6 assists but I wanted to get all of my options involved in the game. (We were playing the Wolves and if you don't get them moving they will shut you down defensively.)

I still was player of the game even though to stop runs I had to foul out. It was enough though and we ended up winning.

The higher the difficulty, the less hero ball you should play.

Finally, morale is key. With a morale lower than 80, it is a struggle to do everything right. With morale 80-90, it is better, but if you allow a run to get out of hand it snowballs really fast. At 90 and above, you can make a couple of mistakes and still recover - just don't make mistakes in a row.

If a player is complaining, you can sometimes give him more touches and he'll rise to the occasion - just don't deny them any touches or they will ball hog when they do get the orange.

      Hope this helps.

Agree with everything other than moral. I think you meant morale.

This is all good advise, thanks. I'm getting better defensive effort from my guys when I focus on getting them involved on offense. Still can't get Cousins to rebound or stop fouling out of games though. I think he's just lazy on this game.

I've noticed something weird that only happens in Mycareer: whenever the opposing team knocks the dribble out of my or my teammates' hands, the ball always goes to the other team. Every time this happens I look at the replay to find that the opposing teams are experts at knocking the ball onto the side of my player's bodies and then out of bounds. Happens about 2-3 times per game. Has anyone else noticed this?

Yes, rebounding is still low - Timmy is averaging 5 rebounds a game when I think he averages 7 a game irl. Again, I am using default roster here so a custom roster might get this better.

Concerning him fouling - I'd have to observe the situations and context. There are games where fouls are happening because they are on a "run" and we are on our heels defensively and there are games where a person is just cold and lethargic.

In the former case calling a time out or slowing the pace is very important to get back to form. The latter case, you just gotta grin and bear it.

This also happens with shooting. Leonard is usually my second option for scoring but last game he struggled. He opened 1-4 on his attempts. So I had to shift to the 3rd option (Duncan/me) and the 4th option of Splitter to get our scoring going. I still gave Leonard the ball but initiated passing sequences with him and led him with the pass on fast breaks.

The give-and-go pass combo can be used to give the ball to your cold player then get it back immediately. Sometimes he will ignore you but usually he won't.

Also, one way of getting big men going is by doing reverse screens for them. At times the ai seems to get caught in a half-way mode and the only way out of it is to push the opposite guys away from them by screens.

Not sure if this is the right place for this, first time poster.

When I load the game up and start my career, there is no sign of Jackson Ellis or any of the agent stuff at the beginning of the game like I've seen on videos and previews.

The game just goes straight into the rookie showcase and then draft interviews etc..

Is the story feature only on next gen, not on ps3? I'm using ps3 so wondering if that might be why

Definitely notice this! No matter what, the ball always ends up with the CPU.

I'd say I get robbed of about 2/3 on-ball steals a game because the ball ALWAYS ends up back in the hands of one of the CPU players. It's crazy.

For me it's 75% of the time in some games. Most of the time I tip it out of bounds (CPU keeps possession) or right back into the hands of the passer who immediately passes again and since I'm now out of position defensively my man can drive to the hoop with the kind assistance of my teammates who clear the paint for him.
