The timeout bug is a STANDARD aspect of any b-ball sim. It doesn't have to be advertised for consumers to EXPECT that aspect to work right. Visual Concepts is disrespecting their consumers by being silent on this issue and not doing anything about it, as far as I'm concerned.

agreed. The other team not calling timeouts does some wacky things to their substitution methods. And it makes me use a timeout when ever I want to sub a guy out, or commit an intentional foul. Thats just plain dumb.

There is one major difference. Importing the college draft class was an advertised feature. The CPU calling timeouts at the end of the game is not. VC has no liability in this situation = no new disc.

who said anything about getting a new disc?? I was talking about what happened with Madden. Like I said, it could probably be patched now. Like if Madden 2005 had that problem, you probably would see a patch rather than a brand new disc.

No doubt, The timeout issue is a problem, and there is no excuse for it to get past QA. But I still don't find it a game killer. Certainly nothing I would Boycott the company over.

Perhaps it is because I grew up on Atari and Mattell hand held games where things were primative. Timeouts were unimaginable. But even modern games have plenty of dumb AI. Wasn't there a baseball game in the last year or two where the CPU would pull a starting pitcher in the 4th inning if he was rolling along? And I also recall some recent football games where at the end of the game, the CPU will throw a 3 yard pass to the tight end despite needing a lot of yards in a hurry.

You know what though? When we were on Atari, Intellivision, etc - we weren't SHOWN what could really be done with the game. It simply wasn't possible with the technology. I remember Intellivision's first baseball game, where the ball was just a dot, all your fielders were controlled as one unit, and the ball didn't even leave the ground. But it was all we had, and we knew the technology sucked.

Then as things got more advanced, and we began to see what was really possible - sure we started asking for more. If you buy only 2 sports games a year, that's $100 a year (before Sega rockbottomed their **** games). Buy them all including Nascar and Soccer - you're right around $500 a year. Take 10 years, and you've spent damn near enough to put a downpayment on a house on **** that never seems to work right.

I mean, they can make online games such as FFXI, EQ, etc - and they play GREAT, and as they are supposed to. If there's an issue it's fixed nearly immediately. How is it that companies like Square and Black Isle, etc - can put out such amazing titles - yet they've had engines for NFL2K, Madden, NBA2K, Live and so many more for YEARS and they can't even fix small bugs.

It's annoying. Playstation 2 games can be patched nearly as easily as XBox if you have online. Look at Socom 2 - it's gone through a few patches, all it does is save it to the memory card. And I know MANY gamers who have the HDD. If you can release a roster update, how come you can't release a small patch?

As I said, it's getting really annoying.

i'm considering it too. i purchased college hoops 2k5 yesterday and it really is nba 2k5 without the bugs. if they could fix the foul and timeout bugs i'll be perfectly content.

But again, the development cycle for those kinds of games are 2+ years a piece, and they still have bugs in them. I'm sure if sports titles had this window of opportunity they also would have fewer bugs. HOwever with easily fixable bugs, I agree and see no reason why these things aren't completed. Someone said, Microsoft, has a minimal patch policy but I just got a patch for HALO 2 the other day so I'm a bit skeptical about that rumor. Either way, though I enjoy the game, I'd like to see fixes for the turnover and timeout bugs and I'd be satified.

Yeah, Halo 2 got a patch after being out only a week, this game has been out for a while and still nothing. I think that Halo and Bungie gets special treatment since it is Microsoft's cash cow, but I think that VC could have done something by now. Even the football game got a patch to fix a stat glitch and it didn't take this long... I think that VC really could care less about this game, and that is why they are focusing their attention on their other games. That being said, VC is going to have to really shape up next year, because NBA Live 2005 really is quite close. Its not perfect out of the box, but with the right set of sliders, Live provides a good basketball experience. If they can fix the fastbreaks, add real NBA plays (after NBA 2K5 they no doubt will do this), and do a better job representing the catch-and-shoot players, they will, in my opinion, have one of the best playing (although not the best looking) basketball games ever made. ESPN needs to do be a lot less glitchy and have a lot better interface for their franchise mode next year. Hopefully we will get two great games next year instead of a couple of good ones.
