    Re: IGN Review......9.0

after playing this for a while at Gamestop, I can honestly say that I am waiting on the 360 version... I'm not sure how much better it will be, but it can't hurt to wait. I'm not saying that it's a bad game, I'm just saying it isn't my cup of tea.

I played Cavs vs. Sonics, just to see some good basketball action, and it was just a total cheesefest from what I could tell. I had upped the difficulty to All-Star, and it just didn't feel right to me. It will be great for some of you on here, but for others it just won't fit.

I did however see some really nice superstar moves... like a James pass through traffic (bounce pass) just threaded the needle to find a cutting Larry Hughes. It was extremely nice. With that said though, it's just not my cup of tea.

Other than the graphics this game probably does deserve the a 9 the problems talked about in the review are fixable...

Yes, it was the final game. It is quite a bit different from the demo in my eyes. The demo was extremely fun, and more toned down, but the final product, although I didn't mess w/ sliders too much, was much more of the live that I'm accustomed to. I only messed with a very few sliders, but even so, the game still felt lacking, and overall not like an NBA type game. It played a good game of High School/College Basketball, but not NBA ball.

I could see myself getting extremely frustrated with it very easily. I've already pre-ordered the 360 version though, so hopefully the new engine will do it some good.

Exactly. A select group of the posters here have been through this process of judging and dissecting new B-Ball titles for 2 or 3 years now...and we all know each others tastes, agendas, and preferences. This community's opinion is much more important to me than a hundred mainstream reviews.

They do make for funny reading though....

Dude you are trippin. I've probably played more organized B-Ball in highschool and college then most posters here. I live and breath B-Ball so don't tell me true B-Ball fans will not enjoy Live.

You fell to realize that the NBA is getting more and more teams in this day and age that want athelete who can get up and down court. Gone are the days when PG's, PF's and C's were traditional type guy's. I want to see uptempo basketball simply because I hate to see games that bog down and teams running half court sets that result into low shooting percentages around 35-38% and scores ending up 80-72.

Young studs like KBJ, D.Wade and Amare is the direction the NBA is going and the things you pointed out like fancy passes and flashy dunks is exactly what these guy's are going to give you on a nightly basis. So, to say it's not realistic b-ball your trippin it's just not your style of b-ball. EA realizes want gets people up out of their seats at and NBA game. Do they go over top with some of the stuff yes but I only look at that as a marketing tool by them when it comes to NBA Live. They are marketing the product to produce sales results. They also know that Sliders are very imnportant in their products and those sliders are geared towards the other half of their fan base. They realize that now guy's who play with their sports titles are well aware of the effects of sliders.

So, maybe some games seem more toned down then Live right out of the box and maybe that will capture the appeal of the so called true SIM fans but trust me I'm sure there are plenty of hardcore B-Ball fans like myself who understand EA's ways of promoting their product to the public so your going to get their over the top style of play right out of the box. All you can do is make adjustment's and then you'll see an more accurate replica of NBA ball within Live. That doesn't mean take away the high flying dunks and fancy passes because realistically that is what is happening in the NBA today. These young guy's coming into the NBA aren't the vets of the 70's and 80's will fundementaly sound B-Ball was taught and learned, these kid's come from a new generation that actually was happening way back when I was balling in highschool in the 90's when guy's wanted to showcase their atheletic skills more than their fundemental skills.

Teams run ISO plays now more than ever in the NBA simply because it's a game evolving more and more around the SUPERSTAR players ability to create, breakdown and beat guy's one on one. The team game is very important still but the SUPERSTARS and their atheletic skills helps to put people in the seats at those arena's and EA is using the same philosophy to market their product.

Something I have been trying on the live 05 on the PC (which I have been enjoying quite a bit.... Is playing on started but adjusting the sliders. Starter seems to be more realistic in alot of ways I am not sure how they would translate to the console version being that the roster from nba-live.com had adjustments made to it. All in all it has been pretty good. Playmaker is right in one regard if you take the time to adjust the game it can be very fun. But online I know this game will be garbage.... unlike my experience with NBA 2k5 and college 2k5 online which were great even when playing a person who wasn't all that sim you didn't feel forced to play out of control.

                        OK?

That doesn't change the fact that CH and MVP 05' were set with sim sliders. Play NBA 2K5 and CH 2K5 and there's a huge, huge difference. There is no b-ball game on the market with as many fouls called on default as CH, and I don't know of any other baseball game that has pitch speeds, HR's, hits and foul balls realistic like MVP does.

The worst part of it is if I do decide to play online after playing with my tweak sliders I run into cheese mania online and thats even if the person plays str8 up. CAuse when the game is on the line we all know that steal button is money.

The same as it would be for most other sports games. Only a head to head game for me. I played more head to head back then and I'm sure if these games had no sliders I would play it more that way today.

The fact that the games do have sliders I can enjoy franchise play solo vs the CPU and get great results. But I guess what your really wanting to know is if I would still buy and enjoy the game then the answer is YES!

Simply because I have 3 very good friends that I know enjoy realistic style of play when we all get together and play these games so without sliders I know features in the game wouldn't be abused if I'm playing with those 3 guy's. In fact we play all these games without slider adjustment's when ever we get together. WE never change anything from DEFAULT settings and get great head to head games simply because we all play as if a team would play in real life.

Exactly!!! When the reviewer backs up my observations from watching the videos that due to skating you can run as fast going side to side as you could running straight........ that is a HUGE PROBLEM!! I dont care how many sliders you give me. How am i supposed to guard someone who is sliding all over the place. Plus there is no such thing as an outside stopper. Just good defensive presence and awareness.
