Re: Ratings are up on IGN

man my anticipation and excitment has just been given a massive boost by these ratings.
if these attributes really make a difference to how a player acts on the court. we could have ourselves a damn fine nba sim on our hands.
playmakers!!! u and i are going to have a lot of work on our hands.
i get the game a month after u USA boys do so by that time u would have a pretty good idea on what does what and what needs to be changed with sliders and attributes etc. so thats great news to me.
really looking forward to your findings. i will help in any way i can.
its going to be a MUCH MUCH bigger job now. but hey, i love editing players. Ea never get it right out of the box. and some of these ratings are way off.

i am really hoping u can edit players attributes while in a season mode and it carrys over to the roster when not in the season like last year.
that means the editing job will be far easier. as i will just edit each team as i face them in the season. instead of doing them all at once.
    lets hope so....

Hey guys...It's because of this depth that I thought this game has a shot to be a good game of ball. I think we all have to not look at ratings like we use to (Kobe is a 95 here, Lebron is 96 here). I don't think they mean what they used to b/c of all of the sub-ratings. I am officially pysched for this game.

The amount of ratings are just...honestly insane...does it really take that much?

The gameplay better reflect these ratings...or some people will be mad...

Are these just for the 360? or are they using them for the last gen consoles too?

How the hell does that happen?
Every other person on that list is probably a better defender than Lebron
You don't have to say probably, they're all quite better than him. Lebron from the past seasons would be like a 71 in defense, he's been average at best, so 75-77 max really.

i think the first half a dozen odd attributes are the averages of sub segments.
ie: outside: i am assuming that would mean the collective ability of all outside shooting/scoring attributes
thats why all star shooter/scorers are 99. etc.
same with inside and teamwork and athleticsm. i believe all these are the main ratings and all the other attributes are subsegments.
i think teamwork may be the collective rating for all "playmaking stats" ie, passing, court vision, go to guy etc....

also what the hell does mental toughness indicate.
arenas, one of the most mentally tough players in the league has a 72rating and jamison whose mental toughness has been questioned his entire career is an 85.?? wtf.
I'm starting to think we're the ones expecting too much when we don't realize that some of the ratings they do are random. Like they see a PF averaging 9 RPG, and I guess they assume he's tough? Kinda like how 2K gave Jamison an equal offensive post rating to Yao, and had Dirk better than Yao and being a basically dominant post player when Dirk plays a perimeter and jumpshooting mid-post game. These companies need to just hire someone that knows the game, I mean how hard is that?

Re: Ratings are up on IGN

It'll take time but I'll figure out each rating. I never use EA's ratings anyways so I planned on editing from what they had before I even start a dynasty.

I think the ratings are just confusing right now because we've never seen them in an EA game. It's kinda like there football ratings for NCAA since I"ve been tweaking those ratings for my NCAA rosters I'm making the game play gets much better from what I've seen.

It's alot of ratings but if they havean effect on gameplay to a great extent I have no problems tweaking them for each player.

I don't expect the gameplay to be great right out the box because it's EA. But atleast they give tools (Ratings) to basically change the way their game is played from default. That's what I liked the most about Live 06 the ability to edit ratings which made the game much better than the junk EA released.

Hopefully this year I can now create entire teams of legends instead of just 3-5 players per team. The thought of creating an entire Lakers, Celtics or Sixers all time team is what has me excited about Live 07. I enjoy creating old time teams and players for football and basketball games.

These ratings are absolutely ridiculous. kobe a 81 in defense??? lebron a 93 in defense??? wade rated 10 pts higher than posey in defense??? marbury and francis a 98-99 teamwork??? Bruce Bowen has a ****ing 80 in defense, imma have to repeate that so i dont think im going blind, BRUCE BOWEN HAS A ****ING 80 IN DEFENSE...i could go on and on but these ratings are absolutely garbage.

That said, the amount of ratings they have is great. Some of those new ratings are actually kinda suprisng to me, especially the hedging the screen rating.

Man I wish the world would get off LBJ's nuts! Yes he is great, but to give him a 93 in defense is just dumb! He's a 75 at best! I know everybody hates Kobe but you gotta give him his props on the court! 81 in a game?! I dont care who it was against! They are all pros and he's the best. He should be rated at least the same if not higher than LBJ.

I'm sorry, but I would venture a guess that 80% of those ratings are totally meaningless to gameplay. There is no way they can translate that stuff into videogame b-ball. And what's with the redundant categories? Why seperate ratings for "shotblock" and "blocker" or "steal" and "stealer?" EA just wants us to believe this game is "deep" and made up some BS ratings, IMO.

These ratings are terrible. At least 2k uses a formula. How does Paul Pierce have a career year and go down a point? Yeah, his ppg is lower than that of Bron, Kobe, and others, but he scores those points on FEWER shot attempts. Why does nobody realize this? Pierce is not 7 points worse than Lebron James, nor is James a defensive stud. And how is Kobe a 99 in teamwork? Kobe should be a 1 in teamwork, and that 1 stands for himself.

If defense is a culmination of all defensive ratings, LeBron should be somewhere in the mid to high 80's. He's weak on-ball..but he's one of the top defensive rebounders in the L at his position, and usually near the top of the steals leaderboard. He's feast or famine on D. Does a few things very poorly, does a few things extremely well.

Your basing one games way of rating players to another games way. maybe the amount of diiferent catagories has an effect on overall ratings. A guy can be rated high in several offensive catagories yet his defensive ratings might bring down his overall ratings. That doesn't mean the player is rated too low or two high it just means ratings are taking effect in 70+ catogories and once they are factored in you get a final overall rating.

I'm also guessing since none of us know what or how they are basing teamwork it's pure specualation on your part to assume something is wrong. UNless EA came out and fully explained how each rating works I would hold judgment before deciding it's the wrong way to do things.

Not all companies are going to rate players the same way simply because they might have different way of doing ratings. That doesn't mean one is way is better than the next way. It just means you prefer one way over the other.

Besides if you don't agree with any rating and you know exactly what each rating does or means isn't that the beauty of the game to change the ratings to what you feel is appropriate?

Why make such a fuss over it if it can be changed to your own liking.

It's this attitude that results in poor ratings.
