You can correct me, but when you say "benefit of the doubt", are you saying people will buy Live knowing full well that it's not the best game out on the market? And they're wrong for that?

So they shouldn't enjoy it because there's a better option out there?

You're extrapolating these extreme conclusions out of nowhere. This discussion is much simpler than that.

Rule number 1: People can buy whatever they want. Good or bad, it's their choice.

That having been said, when you're discussing these games, if you're going to compare them you should hold them up to the same scrutiny. 2k shouldn't be judged differently because it's proven, and Live shouldn't be judged because it's been weak. However, this is difficult. They are both new installments in their respective franchises meant to improve on what they did last year.

In looking at that, VC has less points between 2k7 and a 10 than Live had. For argument's sake, let's round their scores to a 6.0 for Live 07 and an 8.5 for 2k7. Two points of improvement for Live makes it a decent basketball game. One more point for 2k makes it an excellent basketball game. What I'm saying (I won't speak for holbert) is that people are looking too much at the points of improvement, rather than where the games seem to be arriving.

Live was so bad last year, that even a B- is a great improvement. That "leap" notwithstanding, it's still way premature to compare Live to 2k7 and misrepresent that opinion as analysis. They've still got tons of work to do before those comparisons are warranted.

Now if you're just talking about what you personally prefer as "fun", hey buy two copies to make up for the one I'll leave on the shelf. If you're really discussing basketball simulations, then any educated critique would moderate the praise of Live immediately.

People on this board bought it last year knowing full well that the videos, reviews and impressions stated it was the worst NBA game released in 07. Read through this thread and most people are conceding that 2k8 will probably be the better, more realistic game. The reasons they list for buying Live is "its newer" " feels less stale" "fresher" not that its better or has better gameplay. Its new to most people because most people never played 07. Even to the people who did play 07 the game will feel new because 07 wasnt playable and 08 is.

I only buy one NBA game a year and its probably going to be 2k8 because it looks like its going to be the more complete game. I'm enjoying the hell out of the Live demo but in order for me to buy it, it has to be the better game....not the newer or fresher game,

Then that's just crazy.

For me, the better game is going to be the one that has more replay value for me.

I need to play that 2K8 demo to really come to a conclusion on which one to get because there's no way I can flip flop between 2 NBA games. Tried that with 2K5 and Live 2005 and it just didn't work.

I've always, year by year, bought one or the other. Live whatever '98-00, 2K2, 2K3, Live 2004, Live 2005/2K5, Live 2006, 2K7.

That 2K8 demo really has to blow me out the water because I'm not buying it based on last year, which was my original point.

For whatever reason I stopped playing 2K7 (can't pinpoint it to one thing), why should I just get 2K8 based on 2K7? If it was so great, I'd still be playing it. That's just as bad as the guys who bought Live 07 knowing how garbage it was.

See, I'm picking up because I'm enjoying it. Nothing more, nothing less.

No comparisons to Live 06/07 or 2k7/2k8 and I don't get into the arguments about games like fanboys tend to. I just buy it if I like it and I live Live 08. Simple as that.

You gotta admit, B..all sportsgames have an off-season based on the actual sport. Very rarely does a game, reguardless of quality, get year-round play, unless you have no other sports interests.

If you stopped playing 2k7 after a few weeks, then I see your point..

This is Live 07 with Playmakers edits and a few more animations, IMO.

Hmm, if you couldn't play the best basketball game so far in video game history (and most likely far ahead of NBA Live 08) for a few weeks, then don't even bother with 2K8. Realistic basketball is just not your cup of tea, so buy the game you want. No one here cares.

Not in 2004. An absolutely amazing game once it was tweaked to play a sim type of game.

2003... man that game was terrible the CPU would fastbreak ALL DAY. No matter what the situation... who the teams were...

Fastbreak... dunk. Repeat. Ugh.

i remember one of the main game sites IGN i believe saying plays weren't necessary, and 2K followed suit. I've had more fun with bball games back in the 80's.

And the worst thing about 2k4 was IGN gave it a 9+. Man 2k4 and 2k5 were some lean years. Good thing they changed the dev team around.

I don't really see the point of even comparing Live to 2K right now. 2K hasn't released much information. There is not much to judge it on. Then again, comparing any two games without first playing either of them is pointless.
Get whatever game you're going to get. I personally get both, every year. I will get 2K because I know they always put out a great product. I get Live because I get bored with 2K (or vice versa) and its a nice change up. After last years debacle with Live 07, I was hesitant in buying it this year. But after playing the demo, IT IS CLEAR that his is a comletely different game and one that I know I will enjoy.
