Re: DNA is $19.99 on PSN (For used copies)
Again, EA is a business. They want people to buy their game from them, not second hand purchases from Gamestop, Blockbuster (because normally people that rent keep the game from there), Gamefly, etc.
You can''t possibly expect me to believe that if you ran a business you would want people to buy your product at a discount from other places.
we dont disagree with that at all. we can still HATE it as long as we are the consumers, watching out for other consumers. its a money grab move that does nothing to help us and only hurts us in the longrun. unless you (not specifically you) are on EA's payroll, its a bad move, that i feel would have no ill effects on the wellbeing of the game if it were free. its not like theyd invest more into nba lives budget with this and we all are happy. that doesnt and wont happen. we know thatLast edited by RubenDouglas; 10-05-2008, 06:53 PM.Comment

Re: DNA is $19.99 on PSN (For used copies)
Alright, I guess this is the way I will state it -
Everyone always complains about Gamestop and how they are ripping people off.
Example
What you guys aren't understanding is that this is the first step to ending that. Do you understand that if developers lock features to the new games so people who buy them used don't get them without an extra cost, it will drive down the price of used games. Someone earlier in this thread said if you buy a game new, then trade it in a week later, you get less than half price back.
Now, let's say you trade it in for $30. Gamestop puts it back on the shelf for $55. And the game sits there for months because everyone knows if they get it used, they will have to pay the extra $20. So, they buy it new. Another sale for EA? Yes. But it's also another shot into the wallet of Gamestop.
Eventually, if enough developers do this, Gamestop (and stores like it), is forced to lower the price of their used games. Granted, that makes the trade-in values lower, and that will eventually make people not trade games in there. Welcome to cutting down the used game sales and the "rip-off".
That is the way I see it. I know a lot of you see it as "EA getting their dime", but I truly believe this is a direct shot at the used game retailers. They could have just as easily made it a paid DLC off the bat.Comment

Re: DNA is $19.99 on PSN (For used copies)
I think people are missing the whole point behind the used game thing. Yeah EA isn't making any money of the used game sale but they did make the initial sale. But the whole reason why a game becomes a used one is because the original customer felt that in one way or another the game that they purchased wasn't worth the money. You ever wonder why Live always has twice as many used copies on the shelf than 2K?? Or why games like Gears of War or GTA don't have hardly any used copies?? It's because they make a quality game and the customers feel like its worth their money. Most of the people who buy used games buy them because they don't know if the game is worth the full money for it. If EA made a better game then there would be less used copies out there.
Secondly EA has sold MILLIONS on copies of NBA live do you actually think the couple of thousand of used copies have hurt their bottom line. The fact is they outsell 2K every year. If they made the game of that quality they would sell even more and less people would get rid of it.
Lastly people are missing the point of how this affects the people that rent the game. EA has already made their money off these copies. Blockbuster, Gamefly, and all the other rental companies PURCHASED THEIR COPIES FROM EA. Thats how they work. They buy the games then rent them out. So they aren't losing any money there. People are trying out their game and fetures to determine if they like it or not. Now they can't access the NUMBER ONE SELLING POINT OF THE GAME. That is wrong any way you slice it. Maybe the renter wants to hold the game for a week or two from Gamefly and see how the DNA is handled. Now he can't and they only way he can find out is he he goes and gives EA 60 bucks or buy the DNA for 20.
I actually had a bigger issue with konami charging people 7 dollars just to make another character on Metal Gear Solid, and extra on other stuff. Sports games last longer and the dna is pretty deep but the price is to high. Any way half of you have said your not buying the game but yet your complaing bout it for what reason?
You can easily trading in a game or DVD and buy a new copy any way.Comment

Re: DNA is $19.99 on PSN (For used copies)
I can't believe this is still going on. It's simple, buy the game new, pay nothing. Buy it used, and the DNA costs $20.
From using the DNA feature for a few days now, I can say it's worth it's weight in gold. I've had the game since Friday, there have already been 4 DNA updates. Judging by all the info this DNA system provides, I know EA's not lying when they say it's not cheap to use. They didn't hire some lackey to play roster editor and update once a month, this is a up to the minute system that updates everything as it goes on.
As it is now, I can go back and replay games from last season, based on the already quick updates, you will be able to play games as they basically end in the real NBA. Genius system, and if I even did buy it used, I'd pay the $20 for it.Comment

This isn't going to drive down used sales at all, in fact, it's just going to limit the people wishing to trade the games in. How naïve does one have to be to insinuate that instituting DRM in one game will start a trend that will directly impact the biggest game retailer in the world? Our purchasing power is being eroded. So especially now, the goods must be held to a standard. We end up happier as consumers, and the companies get a clear message: "We won't tolerate sub-par goods." It's a shame, no one cares to speak with their wallet.Comment

Re: DNA is $19.99 on PSN (For used copies)
my question is, how many people would buy a used copy at $55 vs a brand new copy at $60? That's just stupid. Really it sucks for renters and ebayers."Never trust a big butt and a smile."-Ricky Bell

My bad man... I said pre-season but I meant training camp. I'm assuming they are updating the injuries and cuts that have been happening so far, in addition to any scouting reports that they may have compiled since camps have begun.Favorite Teams:
