Beluba How has it been using all the technologies EA have to develop NBA Live and does all this technology help with the ideas and concepts you stated you've have had for years work for what you have wanted to do ?

Re: Ask the devs a question

The tech definitely makes implementing certain ideas much easier... and at the same time, it often helps spawn new ideas. So it goes both ways. But yeah, it's been a great luxury having access to all the shared technology and central team resources here at EA.

Have all my ideas been realized yet? Nope. There are still A LOT of things I want to do with this game. But having said that, Live is coming together quite well and I'm happy with how far we've come over the last year.Comment

Great to hear especially about it feeding new ideas. I don't expect all your concepts to be done in 1 big hit going by what you said in early interviews there were a lot.The tech definitely makes implementing certain ideas much easier... and at the same time, it often helps spawn new ideas. Is working for EA Sports a place you can see yourself working longterm/permanently or you don't look that far ahead and enjoy what you are doing in the now and immediate future?Comment

If say there's a scale of grand ideas and big ideas. Do any of them require a more powerful engine with more realistic physics properties? Where do you see basketball games in 2-3 years with next gen consoles ?

Will natal work with basketball games?Comment

EA's a great place to work and I could see myself here for a long time. And yeah, I'd like to stay put in one place for a while... seems like I relocate every 4 years, which is getting tiring.Great to hear especially about it feeding new ideas. I don't expect all your concepts to be done in 1 big hit going by what you said in early interviews there were a lot.

But yeah, I always try to enjoy what I have at the moment and not worry about the future. We could all be gone tomorrow, you never know.Comment

Re: Ask the devs a question

Of course. If my vision could be accomplished with the current hardware, I wouldn't consider myself a very good designer. The stuff that I dream about doing and the ultimate game that I'm envisioning probably won't come to fruition within the next 10 years. But with regard to Natal. I haven't seen the technology first hand... but yes, there's definitely a place for a b-ball application if it works as advertised. That would be quite a big project though, at least, if it were to be done right.Last edited by Beluba; 07-15-2009, 12:13 PM.Comment

Re: Ask the devs a question

The day I saw project natal, I started to imagine creating myself in a basketball game, and capturing my own signature shot. It's one of my fantasies with natal

And hearing Beluba about not denying using the camera, can you imagine a 3 point contest catching and shooting imaginary balls? It would be amazing...Comment

Belbua whould you say with the freethrows for ex. Shaq even if you execute you freethrow perfectly he could still miss because he doesnt shoot freethrows well. Basically because his freethrow rating isnt that high.Comment

Re: Ask the devs a question

Are you able to intentionally miss on a FT that would give your team a chance to get the offensive rebound like players do in real life? Like throw it hard off the front of the rim. Also are airballs possible?Comment

Re: Ask the devs a question

Just kind of going off the first part of you answer here, I know you guys look at the ideas us consumers have towards what we like to see in a basketball game, so now my question to you and the other producers is...what feature who you like to see implemented the most in a basketball game, that has not already been done? I'm interested in hearing your ideas from a gamers standpoint instead of a designer and just one would do.Of course. If my vision could be accomplished with the current hardware, I wouldn't consider myself a very good designer.
