Re: Bad News: '10 to only have 1 shot button for layups, dunks, jumpshots
I will reserve judgment until I play with the system. I could see the advantages of switching to 1-button, but a part of me is disappointed because I just got used to 2-button after not playing live for about 9 years. Ah, well.Comment

Re: Bad News: '10 to only have 1 shot button for layups, dunks, jumpshots
I think this is a terrible idea. I hate 2k's shot stick system. With their system, your player always ends up shooting the wrong kind of shot, and you never have proper control over which type of shot you want to pull off - the CPU is deciding for you what shot it thinks is best for the situation. This leads to the very scripted and canned gameplay that has plagued 2k's games for years now.
The basics of Live's shooting system was great - all they needed to do was tighten up the animations a bit. I loved Live's jump shooting (especially how players could shoot on the move and would pull of leaning shots and quick turn-arounds - as opposed to 2k's clunky jump shooting where the player has to come to a complete stop and square up before he can shoot). 2k's jump shooting just feels slow, unresponsive, and unrealistic, because in real basketball players don't always shoot completely squared up and facing the basket perfectly - their momentum carries them in a direction and allows them to shoot while floating sideways, forward, or back depending on their momentum (Kobe Bryant especially).
I am just afraid Live is going to change all the things it was doing right and will just copy 2k's mistakes all over again.
I was attracted to Live's unique control scheme and was definitely considering switching from 2k to Live, but now it looks like EA is just trying to make a clone of 2k basketball. Just because 2k has been the highest rated game for a few years, that doesn't mean their game is better in every way. 2k looks better (mostly due to its better animations), but 2k's controls are pretty awful and don't give you much control over individual moves (dribbling moves, shooting, post moves, etc.). Live had a superior control structure, it just needed to be tweeked a bit and improved so it could live up to its potential. Now it looks like just when they were about to perfect it, they have gone and abandoned that control structure.
There were some things Live already did better than 2k, and the 2-button shooting system was one of them (Live's right stick dribbling system and its post game system are also far superior to 2k). They should not have made any drastic changes like this in 2010 - they should've left the controls the same and just focused on tightening up the gameplay and animations.
Very disappointed to hear about this.
I don't know who has been telling you that your 2 button system is "whack", but you shouldn't have listened to them. Sometimes companies listen to the wrong people and end up making their products worse because of it. I am a long-time 2k player, but I was VERY close to switching to Live in 09. I liked a lot of things about Live 09 and it was superior to 2k in many ways, but I figured I'd wait one more year for them to really tighten up the game and surpass 2k. Now it looks like they are changing all of the features that made me want to switch to Live.
Sounds like another case of a company just changing things for the sake of doing something new, rather than keeping the things that worked and only fixing the flaws. Sometimes you just need to tweek a few things here and there, but many times a company will change too much and ruin the good parts in the process.Comment

Re: Bad News: '10 to only have 1 shot button for layups, dunks, jumpshots
But what about the crossovers and freestyle dribbiling. Me personally i enjoyed being able to choose and link your crossovers the way you see fit. But my main focus is the smooth similulated gameplay that should be in this game, and not all of the bugs and glitches and ect. I WANT THE GAME TO PLAY LIKE A TRUE NBA GAME! Forget arcs and all that extras the game needs to be realistic in every way possible when it comes to players moving without the ball and when people try to double with the center all day he should have to pay the price if he does that he should be out of postion and should pay the price.Comment

Re: Bad News: '10 to only have 1 shot button for layups, dunks, jumpshots
I perfer it. I'd go from 2K to Live and still be pressing the same button as in 2K but that button was the lay up/dunk button in Live so I'd be ocasionally putting up 3pt lay ups by accident.Comment

As of right now, I can't stand the idea. Until I hear more about it, I'll think that.
My concerns are these:
How will it affect dribbling/crossovers?
Did the rebound tip-ins/tap-ups not make it into the game? Think Live 2005. That's where the 2-button system worked perfectly.
I don't wanna hear anything about Total Shot Control as if everytime down the court is some fancy *** Dr. J-esque around-the-world finger roll.
I trust these guys, but I'm really hesistant to buy into this until I hear more. Hoping for the best.
And stephenson...who the hell was adamant about getting rid of the 2-button system?Comment

Kinda makes it hard to have a shot stick when the right stick is used for dribble moves doesn't it?Comment

And if they want to get the "2k crowd" all they have to do is make a decent sim game(which they're not far from), not steal everything that 2k has.Comment
