UPDATED 9/17
Ok, after playing the crap out of this demo I have come to 3 conclusions. The first 2 points are from a user standpoint and the last is about the cpu.
USER
1. After playing I have mastered posting up in the paint. Why, because bodies are bunched up and it's easy to be bodied up against a defender to initiate that contact for the post up. Posting up in the lane is no problem for me. The only concern is the moves you can do in the paint appear to be limted...
2. Posting up outside the lane is a somewhat of a problem. I can still do it but here's my observation. Because I am outside the lane the chance of me being bodied up by the defender decreases. Since there is no post up button, if I do not have that body to body contact I cannot post up. The problem with that is (for the sim heads/people who really watch ball) that many players initiate the post position before any contact. Meaning, for example, Kobe will turn around into the position and he would initiate contact w/the defender instead of the defender having to body him up first. Outside of the paint, getting into the post position depends on defender contact instead of me choosing to do it and the defender reacts to me. The way it is now, I have to search for a defender to come in contact with in order to "activate" the post up move. You should be able to play w/your back to the basket when you want to. Whether it's to initiate a post move that leads to a shot or just to post to get a better position or to protect the rock. I just don't like it.
But that being said, I have gotten the hang of it for the most part...
CPU
Which leads me to the cpu play and why this game, at this point (maybe could be fixed w/sliders) does not play like real basketball...
***This also ties in with the lack of a defensive stance button. So when playing defense the user can't body up the cpu. This leads to no auto post up by the cpu i.e. no fadeaways or other moves off the post position outside of the paint.***
3. Outside of the paint I have yet and I mean not once seen the cpu initiate a post up position. My guess, is that because of the auto post up needed to be activated by contact and there is really no way for the user to do that on defense, the cpu cannot do it. Maybe I am doing something wrong on defense, but it just takes away from the realism aspect of the game. I mean the only thing that differentiates Kobe from Fisher is that Kobe shoots and scores more. So everyone has turned into a straight up jump shooter and slasher. No fadeaways at all. I mean fadeways off the post position are such a huge part of Kobe's game but they are not in this game. Artest and Odom (more so Artest) do alot of their moves off of a post position but not here, Artest all he does is shoot jumpers on me. Again, maybe I am doing something wrong or maybe sliders can fix this. But my definition of a sim, is not having all cpu players outside of the paint only shoot straight jumpers and drive the lane w/out ever having their back to the basket.
Just my observation.
