"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: How Do You All Feel About The Auto Post Up?
This reminds me of the faction of gamers who vehemently opposed "quick passing" in Madden when EA finally eliminated the 2nd button tap to call up the passing icons.
IMO the Post up really isn't automatic because I can make it happen by trying to bang with a big...At the same time players just don't post up for no reason. In past Live iterations the post up button became an exploit because thats all people would do..Post and spin out of it for a dunk.
In the real NBA players on the perimeter who want to post go to the3 low block...make contact with their defender and post..OR they are being guarded very closely on the perimeter so they turn and protect the ball which often could end up with a guard backing his defender down to the paint.. Players just don't randomly turn their back and start posting..It just doesn't happen. When the ball goes to a big on the block the defender is gonna body up causing a post situation if thats what you want so I guess I just don't see the relevance of needing a button when you can get when you want it anyway.
I think the problem is anytime something unfamiliar is introduced people tend to not accept it as readily. Call it whatever you want but I'm happy with the way the system is now. I don't need another unnecessary button to tap.
I can see your point but at the same time I believe the more control the user has the better. There are times in the demo and probably will be some in the retail when I want a guy to post and he doesn't."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

Everybody seems to be asking for an extra button push when its really unnecessary...I think the devs and their control scheme is pretty smartComment

Re: How Do You All Feel About The Auto Post Up?
and that's my point...posting up on the perimeter never happens unless the defender is bodying up...PG and SG's don't come down court and turn their back to the D...When allot of you cats complain about not being able to initiate a post up on the perimeter that kinda gives me the impression you don't know or watch hoops...PG's and SG's attack and distribute on the perimeter...the only time they really post is when someone feeds them on the block (i.e. Chauncey Billups)
I think too many people have gotten used to videogame basketball and now that developers are reeling in the corny stuff some people can't seperate simulation from videogame.Comment

Re: How Do You All Feel About The Auto Post Up?
It would be good to be able to post up/ protect the ball on the perimeter.
I think the auto post up works ok in the post, for the most part, but sometimes you're wanting to post up but the person on D is not in a position that registers contact.
In this circumstance you should be able to have your body in a back down position, without the defender on you, until contact has been made, and then you would be in the back down battle as it currently stands as the 'auto post-up'Comment

Re: How Do You All Feel About The Auto Post Up?
Can you give a specific example of when you want to post and are unable to???...I guess I'm having trouble understanding how you can't get a post up when you want it...Again...its not automatic...we can control it.

Re: How Do You All Feel About The Auto Post Up?
no.Mike Wang said the Y button doesn't do box out. His tips for boxing out is to move lightly to the defender like how you would the auto post up which is very hard to do because I've failed to box out my guy on freethrow alot of the time. Hold Y will just do nothing until u release it, the player will jump for a rebound so y not just tap it? maybe tapping is the reason for all those missed rebound players do in the game jumping up just grabbing the air for tapping Y button to early or too late.

If that rare situation occurs, in real life or in the game, the player has and should have the choice to do something new as long as it's within his ability.
Point being, I don't think it's more sim to decide the "never" and "always" of a situation. Sim is about the "usually" and "most likely".Last edited by Bornindamecca; 09-24-2009, 12:11 PM.Comment
