Re: Official NBA Live 10 Impressions Thread

I am really trying to love this game but the issues are bugging the hell out of me.

Why is it that all drives to the hoop by the cpu has a horrible collision and forced shot. at times fouls are called others no fouls are called.

You do not see drives that are smooth. all the cpu does besides the shots from outside are drive like a truck towards my defender and force up a stupid looking shot which goes in a lot more then it should

the game does a lot great but some of the shot selection of the cpu is just weak sauce.

I was guarding Carmelo in the post and he threw up a nasty fade away going towards the top of the key without looking.

wade plays like wade and he drives to the rim a lot but is always a forced looking shot.

you do not see wade driving by me with a nasty cross ..

can this be fixed with sliders

Ohh and another big issue I have.

How come I cant pass off a drive to the hoop

I put a nice move with lebron and pressed the shot button to go for a dunk or layup and saw the defense collapsed and was not able to thrw it to the open man...even if i pressed the pass button while he was driving . just because i had already pressed the shot button.

That forced looking shot gets VERY old after a while....especially when players have a wide open lane and a defender comes over and just "animates" him into it.....even if you have an angle. Players recover from pump fakes incredibly fast as well...im just starting to feel like some of the d is an illusion rather then fundamental d...the foundation of it is pretty solid, but the sliding gets ridiculous. I hate that i cant deflect on demand either...balls sail over my head alot...the cpu is good at it though lol

Yea they are some quirks here and there, but overall, everything CZAR said about the game was the truth! After a patch, who knows how much better this game will be! Im lovin it!

Re: Official NBA Live 10 Impressions Thread

I like the game a lot, but of course, no game is perfect adn there are legit negatives that need to be addressed.

I'm not sure which brand is better/worse, at blatant CPU cheating..they both excel at that...I saw Dwight Howard make a 3 pointer with the shot clock winding down. Fun.

NBA Live's players seem to have inherited 2k's players devine gift of teleporting back on transition defense.

Think you have that rebound/turnover leading to a outlet adn a breakaway? nope, everyone is back.

I cant figure out the pick and roll mechanic. There doesnt seem to be a solid screen set, and the guy setting the pick just kind of rolls off randomly, and it is near impossible to feed him, if you see a switch that causes a mismatch, because he is in a cluster of people. am I doing something wrong here?

Too many blocks on default...and probably too many steals as well.

Defense is functional, but it seems a tad vanilla. I dont seem to have too many options, when D'ing up my man.

there also seems to be a framerate issue, or something with the cut scene instant replays.

Sometimes they wont generate, and when it goes to a cut scene instant replay, you;ll get a random still shot. This also effects your ability to save instant replays yourself.

            Has anyone else experienced this?

I play onball pretty much all of the time. it is nice that the hands up animation, can cause a deflection or turnover, and taking a charge works well enough, but other then that..D is pretty much me sliding in the direction of my man, and then trying to get a good contest.

There doesnt seem to be a lot of interaction there.

The drive to the hoop collison is way over done and happens jst about everytime and it's the same damn animation, no variation. It's hard to do fastbreaks and when I got one Chris Kaman almost ran down Kidd. I feel like I have limited control on D and have yet to see how the Defensive assist button works.

Another one of my biggest gripes is that I can't ever hear the PA man

Re: Official NBA Live 10 Impressions Thread

This is one of the best basketball games to grace a console in a long long time. Hell I am a 2k fan and have always been a 2k Bball fan over Live. But this year it is no contest. Live 10 is amazing.

I played 3 games online last night and NO ONE could do any kind of cheese that I saw. It was the most cheese free online ranked games I have ever played in a sports video game.

Game 1 - Was pretty much a blow out with me walking away by like 20+

Game 2 - Was a lag fest, I dropped after the first in bound I got.

Game 3 - OMG this game was epic. Hornets(Me) vs Blazers. We stayed neck and neck through out the first half. But come the 3rd quarter he pulled away taking the lead by 12 points. The whole 4th quarter I fought my way back into it. With less that 50 secs on the clock I was down by 2 and managed to sink a bucket to tie the game. He drives down with less that 20 secs left and scores a basket taking the lead by 2. Then I do the same and manage to score to tie it up with 4 secs on the clock. He quickly called timeout. 4 secs left with a half court inbound. Andre Miller comes around the key and manages to slip his way open at the top of the key, he takes the ball and jumps to hit the buzzer beater. Swishhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. I LOSE BY TWO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wait the Refs are talking, did he get the ball off in time????? Yes the bucket stands. WOW what a game to end the night on. I might of loss but it was a hell of a great experience.

Oh yea, I put up 22 with CP3. My boy was just shredding people off the dribble. Making insane layups.

While I was doing my custom music for "the other game" I was having a heavyweight fight with A.I in this game. The A.I is no joke!

Early impressions of this game leaves me saying one word...ENGAGING. First off I am so pleased to know that a game can play great "out the box". 12 minute quarters(thnx CZAR, "you aint neva lie") is the real deal. Realistic stats across the board.

I say engaging because this is the first B-BALL game that I can remember that you must be focused in play at ALL times when playing the CPU. Now some may say, "of course you're always focused when you're playing." with me not so. In many previous ball games there were times where I would simply rely on muscles memory. Using the same tactics or strategies throughout the course of a game and not really making subtle adjustments. If rely on muscle memory in this game, YOU'RE TOAST. You must adapt and decipher what type of play the CPU is implementing. That's where DNA comes in. A.I does a great job of emulating teams play to a point.

Playcalling and court spacing, as per S.O.P, is top notch.

With gameplay though, as others have mentioned, while I love the help D I find the contact/contest animation happens too often. Even on a fastbreak where I have a noticeable advantage baseline. The guy would shift over and trigger that animation. Maybe I'm missing something but I find it occurs too often IMO.

Overall early impression are good, once the season starts DNA will become a thing of beauty. Man...Madden is not gonna see my face for a couple months. B-Ball gaming is back!

                  Great job DEV team.

24th I'm not sure which one your talking about or if you mean them all in general(forced shot) in the paint ?

Anyway if its the general contact animations and you feel your seeing the same one. They are generated i believe i heard B say off of the attack angle. I think some people are going right at the rim and generating the same ones.

Don't forget move that stick to the left or the right of the basket to help avoid contact and choose which side to score on. I do this alot and see a bunch of the different animations i believe he said there are up to 60 in the game.

Also a tip for those who are having issues getting to the basket. Live employs more of what I call a lane driving system this year. What I mean by this is once you have your man beat go ahead and start your layup or dunk attempt. No need to get ALL the way to the basket before you do that.

In addition to beat the defense on the higher levels and avoid some of those challenge shot animations use the right trigger left and right of the basket euro step and hop steps. They were designed to help you get around the help defense. really experiment with pushing that left stick hard right or left of the basket on your drives.

that may help. If that is not what you were talking about then nevermind LOL

there also seems to be a framerate issue, or something with the cut scene instant replays.
I too have experienced this. I will admit that it's a bit early to make a definitive judgement on the game. I've only played 4 (12 minute quarters) games.

By far the most frustrating thing to me are the fast breaks....and not from the CPU. Regardless of who I am using in transition the CPU gets back EVERYTIME. When the CPU fastbreaks my players seem to sink in quicksand. It's very frustrating.

Yes the CPU shot logic and late game AI leaves a TON to be desired. 20 ft. fadeaways from Mikki Moore? C'MON MAN.

Defense is very vanilla. Not much to say here as I anticipate this to be remedied for Live 11. There just aren't enough on the fly coaching options and mentality changes available. How about adding an option in the Double Team menu for "in the paint"?

Also defensively(I play off ball) I am still seeing jump shots go uncontested when I have a defender standing right in front of the CPU player. Why would Big Z not even put a hand up when Travis Deiner(of all people) is shooting a 12 ft. shot in the lane. I like playing off ball defense, but at times it seems like you have to switch because your teammates are doing nothing.

Last but not least, the auto switch to PG after a made basket is a MUST. It's a must because if I make a shot on one end with Joakim Noah and go back to the other end to pick up my assignment someone else has already picked him up. That's a good thing, but when I get there the help is way too slow in getting to his normal assignment. Sometimes he never goes.

I'm also going to give 12 minutes a couple more games. The first two games last night were on Superstar and it's like playing a game of 2K with the Clutch factor at 75 for the CPU. There are just too many inexplicable CPU runs. I can hang around for about 3 1/2 quarters but then "GOD mode" goes into effect and I'm down 25 three minutes later.

After switching to ALL STAR I lost a rewind playoff game in Boston as the Bulls. Great game, just got beat 113-106.

The nightmare game of the night was next. I used the Cavs in Cleveland and lost to Indiana by 33. Granger is filthy and Dunleavy and Murphy seemed to make EVERY shot they took. Hardly. I looked at the post game stats and both teams shot 39% except Indiana chucked it up 117 times. That's how you lose a game by more than 30 when both teams shoot less than 40%. Run and gun baby...all day. 3 balls in transition, Granger to the hole, I couldn't do anything.

Again...it's early and if anyone has any suggestions on play I'm all for it.

I 100% agree on this I don't see the contact animations often anymore, maybe 4-6 times a game (I really don't know the number but just don't see them often).
I had the same emotional impression roller coaster I had with demo:
                              1. Cut it on and was very under-whelmed
                              2. played it thought the demo was better (maybe faster)
                              3. played more and fell in love w/Deng's mid-range game
                              4. started to get a better feel for it and that retail plays a little... cleaner, maybe... than the demo
                              5. now love it

I hate the camera's none of them have enough adjustment for my taste. With all of them (as in with anything 3D done on a 2D screen) you loose all or part of one of the dimensions. If I could adjust the cameras a bit more I could account for that.

Broadcast doesn't allow the height to be adjusted high enough. If it I could lift it higher it would be easier to determine distances from the sidelines. I tend to play on the side of the court that's closest to the viewer (I can see the lanes and angles better) and I don't like that lack of balance for my offense.

Press would be my favorite camera if I could get closer to the action by getting the camera lower.

High and Low simply the high won't go low enough and the low won't go high enough, LOL. I would love to view the players at the exact height angle of broadcast but from the baseline like in high/low. This would mean the camera would have to be pulled back further than half court to allow a wide enough field of view to see the whole 1/2 court and that would make for an interesting pivot point during transitions. I assume that's why it is what it is. Ideal within in those constraints would be to get rid of high and low and just make one baseline camera that allows adjustment from the lowest of the low camera to the highest of the high camera.

That's it though no real gripes with anything else. I love the game I hate that my favorite players are all on teams I don't want to play with, LOL. I love how Brand and Iggy play but not a fan of their teammates. I like LBJ but I play human competition a lot and I don't want to be accused of picking the strongest teams like my nephew Mayor McCheese! I want to get one team and learn the ins and outs of it so my only REAL problem with this game is what team do I play with. I am leaning towards Portland or Memphis, although both may qualify for that "strongest teams" classification.

I know what he's referring to and that's one of my gripes with the contested shots. You can have a guy basically on your hip and you go into a layup and he will end up in front of you with both hands up.

It's frustrating because it seems artificial. I like that the computer is defending the shot and causing you to miss the resulting animation just doesn't seem believable.

Were there more variation in such an instance I'm sure it wouldn't even be a point of discussion.
