personally for me, there is nothing they can do this year i believe, i don't expect the game to play much different than what i seen in those clips, especially online. I was going to get the game for the online experience, but only a minority of gamers will play a sim type game, so my decision is that they probably cant change my view this year, but IF the demo blows me away, i might reconsider my opinion to not buy this game!

Re: HOw can Ea bring you Back to ELIte
EASBA been saying since I played NHL......the videos looked horrid but If they can deliver on this mode I'll come back. All I ask is that there are no 99 rated 7ft point guards, and that you can actually shut a team down by playing good TEAM defense. I want to be able to enjoy this mode without the cheese that was in Live Run. That along with a solid online system in which EA usually does a good job in that department.Comment

Re: HOw can Ea bring you Back to ELIte
I debated on whether to answer this but as I sit here waiting on the videos I figured I'd give it a shot. Though I haven't left EA yet I am sliding out the door and I don't think it's possible, or at least likely, that they can stop me.
My philosophy towards sports game is that the fact that it's a video game should be transparent and the game should be all about the sport it's attempting to simulate. That means the controls need to be simple and not part of the challenge. I want the challenge of the video game to mirror it's real life counterpart as closely as possible so when the controls are set up in a manner that part of the challenge is mastering them EA starts to lose me. Litman mentioned practicing his thumb motion after losing a game. For me that was almost the death knell! Though one could say the controls are set to mimic real life shooting, they don't do it closely enough to require the same skill that shooting requires (IMO) and therefore requires me to learn a new video game skill to play basketball. For me, I'd rather the game had just kept it simple w/a button push or 2K's shot stick. When I finish the game w/a lost I want to be questioning my defense of the pick and roll, or how can I compensate for lack of size in the post, things that are basketball related not anything that solely has to do w/video games.
A lot of the philosophies I've heard the devs mention translate (IMO) as they wanted a great video game that's based on basket ball. There is nothing at all wrong with that but I want a great basketball game that just happens to be a video game. I feel like Elite has the potential to be a really good video game that's based on basketball, and it might even get the basketball part close enough to satisfy me but I know that there were creative choices made that favored video game principles over basketball ones so my expectations are pretty low. I thought Live 10 was a step in the right direction but apparently it was a step into an intersection and I am not fully on board w/the direction they chose to go.
I am in no way saying that the way I like it is the way it should be so there's no need for anyone to debate me on the merits of my preferences. I am perfectly willing to accept that the current and future gamer wants their video game skills to stand out in their sports sims and therefore I know that means I'll be phased out soon, so be it. My intention is to give Elite demo a shot, and hope for the best if it doesn't satisfy me I'll try 2K, and if not that obviously I have no options, same thing happened w/football gaming.
I guess the answer to the OP's question for me is that EA would have to make the basketball principles in the game tight enough that I could look pass the some of the other stuff. I feel like I was singing this song for quite some time then Da_Czar came along and said it better, not trying to say I was first, just that I finally heard what he was saying. EA would need to flesh out Dynasty mode w/in game injuries and GM features that would show me they care as much about overall package as they do one on one interactions between players. EA would need to give me in-depth in game coaching options that would also show me that they care as much about the team play aspect of the NBA as they do about 1 on 1 play. I am not overly concerned with graphics but I am sick of seeing the ball travel through the body of my players because I didn't push the button at the right time so EA needs to install logic that makes use of true to life principles for things like rebounding, passing, challenging/blocking shots and stealing the ball not proper button timing, meaning if I am in position to do something that should matter more than did I press the button at the perfect time. Truthfully I see all this as a pipe dream though, LOLComment

Re: HOw can Ea bring you Back to ELIte
Now i'm not bashing Ea because i thinkt hey way they took with Elite is unique any gamer should admit to that, Its certaintly different then the standard upgarades we see every year,..the thing is...like...I just don't understand where this game can be related to simulation
That is not what EA is doing in Phase 1 of Elite. Elite is going to be like when MLB:the show 07 hit and was pitted againste MLB2k7. Everyone recognized what the show was and gave it great marks but in the end the nod went to MLB2k7 b/c they had been around longer and they were more polished overall. But look what 3 years can do to a game. MLB:the show is untouchable now and MLB2k is on its way to oblivion. Rome wasn't built in a day and NBA elite wont either. Elite isn't going to beat 2k this year nor is it the goal. The goal is for people to recognize that EA has in fact turned the corner an is on the rise again. So far they have done that with FIFA and the NHL series and hopefully it will be the same with the basketball franchise.Comment

Re: HOw can Ea bring you Back to ELIte
I have always bougth EA's game every year and 2k's every year except there 09 version. EA has lost me for now because 2k just looks like it is just to good to beat this year. I need depth and a true sim in dynasty mode and that is where 2k excels at. I believe Elite might be a fun game especially if your a online gamer but I'm not, I strickly play offline and always in dynasty mode in all games. I truely hope EA gets a true sim deep dynasty mode in the future which is what I thought would happen this year but it's not.Comment

Re: HOw can Ea bring you Back to ELIte
This is the first year that EA hasn't really marketed, advertised, or released many gameplay videos, so im wondering if they are confident in there game, EA lack of the previously stated thing makes me believe that they aren't so confident..... this is a big no no sign for me.... so i can't purchase a game that they aren't confident in.........Comment

Re: HOw can Ea bring you Back to ELIte
My man Da czar said it best, he said he wished ea would have taken a year off this year and came back next year with a product that would blow our minds but my mind is blown in a totally different direction. Demo next week is the only chance live 11(doesnt deserve to be called elite) will have at getting good sales and ratings.Comment

Re: HOw can Ea bring you Back to ELIte
Anyone that got turned off of Elite based on those videos wasn't turned on in the first place. Was it bad? Sure. But anyone can see those videos were shot with the worst possible conditions featuring a shaky cam, new players learning new controls, and random-style gameplay featuring guys driving for dunks all game.
Bring on the official footage from folks that know how to play, and most importantly, that crucial demo that's been teased about for the last few weeks.Comment

Re: HOw can Ea bring you Back to ELIte
I think I'm GONE, this will be my first purchase of a 2K game, I'm tired of waiting. I'm mostly a dynasty player and for the simple fact that I've been waiting 3+ years for the season length option to be put back in has gotten me fed up. Can't wait on a three year project for Elite. But the videos didn't look all the horrible to me, it's the depth in dynasty mode that is running me away.Comment

Re: HOw can Ea bring you Back to ELIte
If Elite has an amazing online setup they could get me, even with subpar looking product. I highly doubt that will happen though. By amazing online setup I mean an online setup similar to the quality of a top notch shooter with experience rankings, skill rankings, addreslesing quitters, flawless execution in saving settings, roster lineups, playbooks, etc...
In the future they've got to put serious work in player models, animations and signature moves. They need to completely revamp the look of the series.Last edited by oOausarOo; 09-01-2010, 06:56 PM.Comment
