Hey Tim welcome aboard, seeing as you are working on dunks for Live 15 can you let me know if they're going to be posterizing dunks in the game that lead to and 1's, and also are they're tip dunks in as well?Get at me on PS4 or Xbox 1 RonRac2Comment

Re: Hello OS NBA Live Community
Welcome to the board. I'm glad we have that producer/gamer line of communication open again.
My biggest advice would be to work on the animations and have lots of them.
No matter how much you guys improve the graphics, if it animates weird it ruins it.Comment

I also agree, not enough fouls in 14. See what we can do.Comment

Re: Hello OS NBA Live Community
Can't agree more. If the graphics are spot on, but they don't look right, it ruins the experience. The graphics team has set a high bar for us for sure. Hopefully when you see the trailers, the animations will make you guys more anxious for news just like when those screenshots and video dropped.Comment

Re: Hello OS NBA Live Community
I felt shot %'s could be a bit higher overall. In a lot of situations, shooters like Allen would miss too many open-shots that should be knocked down and should really hurt the defense for leaving you wide open with a good shooter. I know you can't make every wide open shot, but great shooters don't miss a lot of wide-open shots.
Also, another question since you are the designer for shooting, dunks, and lay-ups. Will we be able to change our shot in mid-air? If I see another weird animation for a player changing his shot in mid-air for no reason I will lose my mind lol.
One last suggestion. When going for a lay-up, players in Live 14 don't really attack the basket or use the backboard as protection from shot blockers. Player should attack hard to the rim and protect the ball, in Live 14 players don't attack the basket and just seem to throw the ball into the air or do a real high arching finger-roll lay-up. It was rare to see the ball on a lay-up to hit the backboard and go in, it seemed that every shot was just straight into the net. It's not pleasant and is not something players are taught or do in real games. Hopefully, this is something you addressed for Live 15. Live 10 did this aspect of shooting really well and was easy to use and gave control to the user.
What difficulty did you play on? I agree, elite shooters left open need to make you feel like it's going to be drilled more often than not, and make defenses fear leaving guys like Curry, Allen, Beal, Korver, etc. open.Comment

Re: Hello OS NBA Live Community
Hi Tim, thanks for being here and try to participate in a conversation with us.
Since you work on scoring mostly I had some suggestions about it, some are related with controls too so I don't know if youmake some changes about it:
- The ability to draw fouls like NBA Live 2005 had.
- Change and modify shots or layups.
- Interesting idea I found on the NLSC forums: “Let's say you have to hold down the shot button--the longer you hold it down the longer you put off releasing the finish. And while you're holding it down, and as you enter flight, you control what hand/direction/motion you finish with with the left analogue. So you manually control your whoopty-doos, pumps, Dr.J's, circus shots, manually avoiding the shot blocker. You can release it quick, or hold it and release it as you're coming back to earth--which could end up being reverse finishes on the other side of the basket.
In the same way for dunks, holding turbo, you manually control the hand/directions pumps, cockbacks, windmill motions alike, all depending on that players abilities--vert and style. The penalty being: if you hold too long or release too early, you might get hung, or blow it off the back iron. I mean, couldn't you picture capitalizing on a game on a breakaway and doing your own windmill? Your own tomahawk? Trying to make them look as full motioned as possible?
Or tie trick dunks entirely to their own and leave the above just for avoidance. For breakaway dunks tie them in with the gather, press the gather, then try to dunk. Twirl on during the gather for spins, direct in air for the dunk. Done. Eliminated unrealistic dunks in traffic(for the most part) while keeping them in the game.”
Also one question, do you work on free throws? I feel there should be more control on it, I liked Elite's system since it let you choose how to shot it and manually miss shots which could help in some late game situations.Comment

I'll look into using the glass. I agree with you on that. Hope to tighten that up. It can make a great animation not look as good for sure.

Re: Hello OS NBA Live Community
Hi there everybody, my name is Tim Schwallie and I'm a gameplay designer on the NBA Live Series.
I just wanted to introduce myself since you may see me pop up more in the community as we approach finishing and launching Live 15.
First off, I've been on the Live team since it moved to Orlando from Vancouver and have been a part of gameplay that entire span.
I grew up in Orlando and I'm a huge Magic fan. After I graduated UCF, I started testing here at Tiburon on the NASCAR series. I also worked on the last year of NCAA football on the PS2 before moving on to EA Sports MMA. After MMA I took the opportunity to jump to a designer role on the NBA franchise.
I'm very glad to be a part of the Live team here in Orlando and feel blessed to be working in the role I am.
I'll try to answer any questions that you guys may have, but there is only so much I can say. In the mean time, I'll try to check out these forums when I can.
Hope you all are looking forward to see what Live 15 has to offer.

Hello Tim and Fernando. Welcome and thank you for taking the time to answer our questions. I felt NBA Live 14 wasn't perfect, but it still has a good foundation to build upon. I really liked the Half Time show and the whole ESPN Integration. I have a few questions:
- Will you be including in-game injuries this year?
- Will you be including sliders in the game ?
- Will we have the option to have in-game saves ? (so we don't have to finish complete games to save).
Thanks in Advance.Comment

I don't know how much others have played the game but I've gotten a great feel for how a lot of things play out, you can change your shots in mid air but it's not easy which is the way it should be otherwise you open up another avenue of exploits, you have you be quick/good with your hands and master the passing mechanics.
Layups do hit the backboard a lot of times, it all depends on the type of angles you're taking toward the rim.
I wish I could show you a gameclip of a opponent who's main gameplan was to throw up Alley Oops nearly every possession. I think a lot more balance would help because I truly feel the core gameplay & amount of control is very very good but also slightly unpolished in some ways.
I attached a screenshot of a FG% I was able to achieve online that shows you can achieve a high percentage without drowning the court with 3's, that imo has to be toned down as well as the Rocket Jump Put Back Dunks/Layups. I've also noticed that if you get a goaltending and the ball still goes through the hoop you get 4 points instead of 2.Comment

Hi @Schwall, Welcome to the boards!!!
I am glad and truly appreciate that you will be over here spending some time with the community (although I guess you won't have too much time in the clutch... hahaha), it is encouraging at least…
I am a basketball lover and even though I was disappointed with basketball videogames lately, I am really looking forward to Live 15 as I think Live 14 had many good things to build upon. I am praying for you to deliver something special and hopefully, sooner than later, someone will nail a good basketball simulation product instead of an spectacular but more arcade game…
Cheers! ;-)Ignorance is Bliss...Comment

Re: Hello OS NBA Live Community
Hi Schwall. You said you worked on scoring(shooting, lay ups, etc.) I think you guys need to add more animations for layups under the basket. I also think the pull up jumper animations need to be smoother. and also momentum shots drifting right or left need some work. I feel as if the shooter doesnt create enough space on the momentum shot. I also hope there more layup animations for elite finishers such as d rose, westbrook, lebron, ellis, etc.Comment
