Look at Houston. Yao Ming has a 68 primacy rating and Tracy has a 95. On some teams, there may be this much difference in shots between these two players because the style of the team might suit Tracy more than Yao. But not this year in Houston. Why? Jeff Van Gundy. I think having a list of what types of players the coach prefers taking shots over others, as well as some kind of disobedience rating for each player or player/coach chemistry rating for each pair would achieve more realistic results than an overall "primacy" rating.

Originally posted by nikolaihuntI should add that this isn't the whole picture, because FGA doesn't address trips to the line, and I should probably be using FGA/48.
So Garnett has 20 FGA/48, and 6.9 FTA/48. Shaq has 18.5 FGA/49, and 13.2 FTA/48. For the simplicity's sake, assume that these weren't And1s, so KG has 23.45 shots/48 and Shaq has 25 shots/48, so there's about a one and a half shot difference between the two.
Whether that's worth 17 primacy points or not, I dunno but I'd imagine less..

My best guess is that they determine how many free throws are made per minute from the FG, Primacy, Inside Scoring, and 3PT ratings and the FT% from the FT rating and then you just divide the free throws made by the percentage to get the number of free throw attempts per minute.NBA 2K18 ratings for several seasons generated from advanced analytics using the SportsCrunch system:

Re: Player Ratings from Ign (09/24/04)
Basketball video games are so hard to simulate but guys keep voicing your opinions, cause it will one day make the games better.
I hope the stats dont control the players overrall abilities but those numbers are programms and they should stick for gameplay sake. (unless we change them)
We always seem to take 2 steps forward and one backwards BUT we getting better SLOWLY. LOLComment

Originally posted by SonicmageYou were kidding, right? Garnett was second in the league in points per game last year. Not only that, but he took 500 more shot attempts in the same amount of games as RJ. Live 2004 rated Garnett at 83 in primacy last year and he was never in the MVP race when simming a season because he didnt score enough. Now he is at 78. Where is the confusion?
I dont think theres anything wrong with being annoyed at incorrect ratings in NBA Live. For me, in these types of sports games, the realism makes the fun. If I see a player not performing remotely close to what I would expect him to do in real life, it takes away the enjoyment of the experience for me. Apparently, I am not the only one who feels this way. If you and others dont mind playing the game the way it is, then thats good, enjoy it. Myself, I dislike having to spend weeks creating spreadsheets upon a game's release to get the game to a level of realism where I can enjoy it when that job should have been completed before the game was shipped. In fact, I would rather have had the release date stay at October 5th and them spend the extra week in the development cycle tweaking ratings instead.
Since the product has been clearly rushed. Just edit... I'm mean seriously what else can we do? I know it sucks...but what can we do? If you want maybe just wait on an update tho it may not be much better.
I don't think you'd need to go through the trouble of spread sheets, if you know the game ratings well. Obviously a guy like Rip hamilton should be atleast rated 80 from the FG. But do as you please...Comment

Re: Player Ratings from Ign (09/24/04)
The ratings are now complete...all teams are at the site.
I've put the entire lot in EXCEL...very easy to sort. Makes interesting reading actually (and I never thought I'd say that about an excel stat sheet)...
Really easy to sort them by overall, 3 point, inside / outside, speed etc.
Which makes editing pretty easy. Just mark out what needs to be changed and go and do it once you get the game.
I know what I'll be doing at work for the next few daysComment
