I think the main difference here is YOU make the plays they make in real life. Not a scripted animation, but it's on you. That's why I like Live 18 so much.

Live's core gameplay engine fills all those holes. Everything is woven together so beautifully and seamlessly. The players actually make the plays they make in real life, even if they don't flick their wrist the same exact way. Players actually feel less generic. LeBron plays like LeBron (user controlled in this demo). Curry plays like Curry. KD like KD. Love like Love. TT like TT. Klay like Klay. Livingston like Livingston.

You can feel the different styles and signatures through their actual gameplay and not just an edit screen like in 2k.

2k is more authentic on the surface, but Live is more authentic under the hood where it really matters.
Sorry, but Live is actually going the 2K route this game, you like it because it isn't 2K. A lot of things about this game are very similar 2K17 and previous.

Most the animations playing on offense and defense are canned animations. The difference is Live has an animation for guessing wrong on defense or puts you in a vulnerable state, It's not physics playing out. 2K17 has all the same things they just aren't simulated in the same way.

I'm happy you enjoy the game, I like some aspects, but I think you're a little overboard with the comparison.

It seems pretty free to me...riding the hip/jossle when you are dribbling on someone tied with the quicker/more decisive animation controls and the defensive system allows a lot more freedom and avoidance of any tied animations. Defense always has a chance to defend, offense always has a chance to counter.

They can't take my money fast enough.

I cant say I've ever put as much time into a demo as I have this one.

I have yet to anyone straight up avoid contact in all the videos I've seen of highlights. Imo some the interactions are a little exaggerated.

I'm buying, taking my Madden money and putting it towards Live 18. Madden 18 should be the game that's $40 this year not Live.

The only canned animation that's there all the time is really that the defender tries to put a hand on the driver as they are attacking, and vise versa, but you're never stuck in the animation....really you can do a full on spin back step back and pass out of it. You can be stuck in the post and lob it off the backboard Kobe-esque.

Re: After Playing the Demo, Are You Buying, Not Sure or No

This game deserves support. I pre-ordered digitally.

I never went into this demo thinking that I was about to play a game that would supersede NBA 2k. That's a ridiculous expectation, if you ask me. Live still has a ways to go before it can really reach that echelon. However, the gap in quality between 2k and Live is easily the shortest its ever been, and I'm more than confident in the product (from what I experienced in the demo) to believe that EA will put out a lot of great patches to refine the game where needed.

To that point, I'd really like to see EA Sports work on refining off-ball AI movement, loose ball action, player faces/bodies, customization/editing, and in-game commentary -- if not now, then perhaps next time around. Basically, if there's anything that breaks immersion or feels stilted, make that a priority.

Anyway, whether you like Live 18 or not, I think this game still does enough right to put a little heat on 2k Sports to stay sharp. So really, I think 2k supporters and Live supporters will ultimately benefit in the end regardless. But me? Yeah, I think Live 18 is legit.

I think the player movement is weird... It's better than Live 16... But still no where near 2k

I'm leaning towards buying if there is a good sale around Holiday. Its funny a month ago, I was definitely buying Madden and had 0 interest in Live. But now I have no interest in buying Madden and have more interest in NBA Live.
Its a different experience than 2k. I'm mainly a Career mode player. I think I might like Live's version since no forced story line

                          BUYING

live plays the type of basketball i like, superstars doing work..

GS played like GS launching trees, LBJ is pure cheese in a mismatch...

this is what i want in a basketball game...

i feel like a hypocrite after this demo, i am on the madden forum pleading for realism, less arcade and more sim gameplay YET i am loving live and its non ultra sim gameplay..

this is a good start for EA though, i would like to see player editing and other creative options added but i love seeing the best players dominate and only live gives my that feeling of " damn i cant guard this guy"

You can tap L1 to bring up the playcall wheel and then go one more depth into the full playbook as well.

Also, d-pad has quick iso, post, screen, and cut actions. Double tapping the appropriate d-pad arrow brings up icons to select who you want for that action.

Yeah that was pointed out to me in another thread. I don't think too many people are familiar with it. I'm anxious to see how they changes gameplay for me.

Although I played it on Superstar mode yesterday and it was the biggest crapfest imaginable. CPU was teleporting to intercept passes, my AI teammates had absolutely no concept of help defense, seemed extremely unbalanced (as are most EA games on highest difficulty). I'm going to turn the difficulty down a notch and see how well having these playcall options helps out.
