Re: After Playing the Demo, Are You Buying, Not Sure or No

My initial vote was leaning towards buying...but I have made my final decision to pre-order this game. Things have been pretty slow at work over the past few days so I've just been on here reading impressions, watching WTF's vids (lol) and appreciating the interaction of some of the EA team on here.

I was a pretty big fan of NCAA Basketball 2010 (that was the last ea bball game I enjoyed as much as this demo)....I remember the game wasn't that popular (there were still alot of people sour over the end of 2k's CH game, myself included)....but I remember NCAA 10 as just being fun to me.
I just honestly think NBA Live 18 plays a good game of basketball. I can pick out flaws from NBA 2k17 in the same manner that I can pick them out from this demo. If you look for flaws, you WILL find them. BUT, if you look for what what the game does good, you will find those too. And FOR ME, the good out weighs the bad. At the end of the day, this is a video game and at $40, these days, that's not a bad price to pay for something that's going to bring me fun.

I normally don't enjoy game modes like The One, but I actually enjoyed playing this one....ALTHOUGH, I did find it annoying that EA FORCED me to play this mode in order to play the regular game. I was mad until I saw the back story and First Take....lol, but maybe that's why EA did that (because they knew someone like me would never touch that mode)....now it is actually something that I will play from time to time. I DO HOPE the BROADCAST camera will be available for this mode in the final build though.

I have played the hell out of Cavs/Warriors lol. I think I read someone post in another thread that the games feel different even though its playing the same two teams, same settings, same difficulty, etc....and I totally agree! This is why i keep coming back to the demo.
I've played the demo and 2K17 back to back just to compare and forgetting what each game does better or worse than the other, the game I have FUN with the most is LIVE.
Does this label me as a "casual" guy or a "sim" guy? I would say a casual sim guy because I still look for believable stats, game flow, pace, cpu ai....I also look for strategy options and the user friendliness of finding what I want when I want them (i.e. subs -- hate the quick sub system in 2k)...
2K has an unbelievable amount of options, but it just seems too complicated for my simple brain. It became more of a chore than anything else.

I do think 2K is a great game to look at. I can't deny the amount of resource they've spent on player likeness and animations, personality, etc.....But the Live demo has just been a fun game to play. I can't explain it any better than that. The more I get used to the controls and learning to use plays and coaches options, etc....the more I'm enjoying it. Between the sweet vids that WTF keeps posting on his twitter acct and coming on here and reading people's impressions and seeing that people have the same exact feelings about the demo that I do (so that I know that I'm not crazy or anything for actually liking the game), this has made my decision to pre-order NBA Live 18 and take advantage of the $39.99 price tag....looks like it'll be worth it to me!

There's a laundry list why. From someone who hasn't touched Live since 07 and devoted fully to the other franchise since 2009..I mainly like the user control and athleticism (explosiveness off dribble, step backs, etc) of the athletes. It's something I've always always had issue with in the other game...I want full freedom and also full freedom with NBA level athletes. That's why I play sports games to play, immerse, not watch. To me Live 18 tackled those two things better than anything I can remember since 2K11-13.

The players do what you want them to do more effectively, they are full fledged athletes who don't have anything stripped from their real life abilities (pet peeve of mine).

Then you have all the welcomed bonuses. Insanely good crowd/atmosphere. Unpredictability factor. Live ball physics. Great defensive system. New animations. Great menus/layouts. Man to man animation/physics (hip riding). Real pro am courts. Less forced storyline. ESPN broadcast. EA action camera (my personal favorite). Responsive everything. Good servers.

There's definitely aspects of the other game I prefer (player graphics, signature shot accuracy, net & rim physics, legend teams, post movements, depth). I can look past in hope they improve on these areas though. Trust me, I'm a huge retro fan so it I'm buying the other game it'll be for mainly for that reason, hard to avoid that.

I'm really curious to see how the other teams play in Live. I love the way that the Warriors pull every open look or how LeBron looks to drive an open lane. I wonder if Westbrook will constantly look to drive and dish (or pull an unnecessary 3 on occasion [emoji849]) or if the Spurs will have constant ball movement. I'm hoping you can really see disparity in all of the teams. Would bring a strategy element to offline vs. the CPU.

Also, is this not a sick menu? Like even tho some of the music isn't much that I know I feel like it fits perfectly with everything else.

FUN...they have made huge progress from 16. I will be preordering it to support this game and to hopefully continue progress. With price point, no brainer.

Buying for sure. I want to play more and that is the best outcome of any Demo, so well done to the team.

I leave my impressions to the other thread but damn they have come out pretty strong this year. Love it and love that there will be some ******* competition at last so they can hopefully push each other to improve in areas they are weak.

I've enjoyed playing the demo and defintely see some things I like. Feels a lot like Live 10 — the last Live I've owned.

If this game has roster editing, it's a definite buy. I also wish they have an option that initiates motion without having to chose a play.

Hopefully without the cheese that lets the CPU catch up to keep the game close.

Re: After Playing the Demo, Are You Buying, Not Sure or No

I actually wasn't going to buy this game.

But here is what is making me preorder after playing the demo.

                      1. Pace of play

I feel like this game mirrors NBA pace of play so well and even on 5 minute quarters in this demo I feel like I can control a games pace.

                      2. The Crowd/Atmosphere

Do i need to say more?

                      3. The lighting/graphics

The textures are more life like and even though the faces re probably a 6/10 the overall graphics are very well done

                      4. The movement/control/foot planting

Momentum matters more often than not. More often than not if something foul happens it was because I didn't do the correct button input. More often than not I can create realistic space. More often than not every time i do a specific button input i get that move. (actually this is every time). I don't feel like I'm controlling a dude who's going to take off in a direction because of some crazy animation...it's simply running and dribbling it doesn't need to be complicated and they got it RIGHT.

A step feels like a step and not like i glide for a second before i take a step which makes the one step like 3 steps. They really got this part right...so much so you don't need to HOLD turbo to explode by someone rather than use it as a first step explosive kind of move. There is nothing that artificially shoots you forward...you just move. Feels SOOOO much like Fifa I love it.

                      5. The A.I

is much improved the rotations are crazy especially when they start double teaming they really defend that well you really need to swing the ball.

Yea the block shots are a bit OP and the jumpers are slow and floaty but this is a DEMO. Hopefully those things can be ironed out. I'd also like to be able to set defensive matchups on the fly.

I actually can't wait to see what other gameplay improvements they add in the full version.

Kyrie TORE ME UP in a 5 minute qtr game (Superstar) dude scored 32 points with a mixture of drives and threes. I would love to see more Lebron setting up offense but I'm super nit picking...if they can deliver this level of immersion and team style play they have a winner.

Game play is really that good I'm really having a ton of fun with it.

                      6. The One

I LOVE the way EA handled the archetypes and leveling up. No dumb tedious grind to get points just play the game, play based on your archetype and get rewarded. Simple.

Definitely worth the $40....and again this is just the DEMO.

                      Great job EA.

                        Definitely buying.

I actually bought 15, and 16 on heavy discount and found some areas of the game fun. Overall the package wasn't complete but some mechanics worked well.

18 is fun! First and foremost. While we have advanced moves available, you can just pick up a controller and play. Like many I enjoy the other game also but this a needed change of pace. Been playing the demo non stop since it dropped.

I like the locomotion in this game. Even with a few canned animations I feel in control at all times.

I love the on ball defense. Picking the right angle/direction causing the CPU to pick up its dribble is rewarding.

The right stick dribble moves/shooting is very approachable. You can do basic moves or advanced moves without a lot of fighting the controller.

The shooting needs to be tweaked, but ask anyone that played 15 and 16, 18 is almost perfect 😂

Graphics are good(hoping the final version cleans up some of the faces)

Pace of the game is 😎

The One could've been a stand alone game imo. It's that's fun. In the future hopefully The One can be used as a way to level up your player during the offseason in career mode.

Overall this is the first Live that's worth full retail.

Hopefully EA actually builds off this base and keeps realeasing the game annually.

This game is FUN. Period. Love the presentation, the 1 on 1 gameplay is really engaging, & overall feel/pace of the game is realistic in my opinion. There are definitely issues but at it's core it plays a good game of basketball so therefore I will be purchasing Live 18 at some point. It's just a matter of when because of my financial status haha.

I bought 14' at the end of it's cycle, was graciously gifted 15', & I nabbed 16' shortly after it's release. Throughout that time frame I continuously spoke to my friends about the potential I was seeing in this series. Still some ways to go but that potential is finally "truly" being showcased with this iteration.

My friends still aren't onboard but I know it's here & it feels good being side by side (but yet so far) with this series during their comeback to competitive virtual basketball gaming. Keep making strides & although I'm hoping for roster editing it won't sway my decision on purchasing this game. I'm all in!!

I am leading towards buying. With BB and being able to get the game for just 32 and with this game having easier controls then 2k and also better crowd sound and already getting pretty good results on all star the game looks really good. I need to hear some franchise stuff though because franchise mode is like all I play on video games. Franchise mode doesn't have to be like crazy deep even though I would like it to be just need to have a franchise mode with solid sim stats, trades, FA logic etc.

If the franchise mode details are good, I'm in 100% to pre-ordering. I have loved the demo, and since the patches, the gameplay has become stunning IMO.
