It's really not worth it if you're going to pick it up for the PS2. If you have an XBox and Live, def. give it a shot. The game will feel more sluggish at first, compared to Live.

Is Xbox Live the only way to get the patch? I have an Xbox, but I don't have a Live subscription and don't really want one. How does 2K5 play compared to 2K through 2K3 (the last 2K version I played)? Is the feel more or less the same?

I get very good balance when it comes to me or the CPU beating guy's off the dribble. I usually free-style with a good ballhandling player and it gets me to the rack 1/3 times. I think that is a very good ratio over the course of a game.

AS for the plays. They work in my dynasty. You have to understand the movement which is tough without a play diagram to accompany the game but once you figure it out the plays work I"d say about 75-80% of the time. It's not 100% perfect but they do work. I also use my own team specific/player designed plays to keep each teams top players involved in the game.

Well, you can get the patch via means of a modded console, but I can't go into that.

2k5 is easily the best NBA 2k game since 2k2. But there are little things that just keep below Live, IMO. BTW, I prefer gameplay over presentation...

Well, you can get the patch via means of a modded console, but I can't go into that.

2k5 is easily the best NBA 2k game since 2k2. But there are little things that just keep below Live, IMO. BTW, I prefer gameplay over presentation...

I don't know, there's just something about Live. I'm playing ESPN currently, because I just bought it, but I imagine I may go back to Live eventually.

Firstly, although ESPN has AMAZING graphics, Live has the ANIMATIONS. In my opinion, the animations are more important than the graphics. It's great having people look like real life, but when they shoot those ugly shots that ALWAYS swish through the net and they dunk with their heads OVER THE RIM every time, it's not all that pretty to watch.

Secondly, Live has the game flow. ESPN has an option to change the game speed to cater to your liking, which I honestly haven't even tried, but Live has the game flow perfect. In ESPN, it feels like everything is a predetermined sequence. I can't explain it, but it's like its all robotic, nothing is SMOOTH.

Onto the positives, ESPN has AMAZING graphics, and since ID04, I have wanted a game where I can see how to and run PLAYS. This is MAJORLY important to me, because I HATE having to freestyle around court because I can't set up plays. I realise that there are ways to run plays, but the lack of play diagrams makes it difficult.

Also, the Association mode in ESPN is just BEAUTIFUL. You have SO much control it is unbelievable.

Lastly, CUSTOM SOUNDTRACKS is HUGE. That is one of the majorly amazing things about this game.

Overall, I'm not going to say which game is the best, because that should be left to your personal preference. I would say, IF YOU CAN AFFORD TO, try to buy both games and give them a try. I buy both every year, and I am glad I can afford this, because each game fills a different void for me.

Both games are AMAZING in their own rights, and they both have what the other is missing. Overall though, honestly, I may go back to Live in the end, because the gameplay wins.

The problem is...they haven't fixed sliding, added team specific play sets and brought in player tendencies ever.

They've had ten years now...and still not a single real play book.

Not a single baseline screen play or a catch and shoot.

Not a single release where teams play differently.

The game is old and generic play year after year is just extremely poor. They need to adress this.

Unfortunately, my mail is they won't be addressing these "due to memory issues" until the Xbox 2 is out. In game cycles, that means NBA Live 2007.

Live 06 may be one to avoid. Roll on 2K7

Pared, you have an amazing ability to ignore any posts that legitimately find flaws in NBA Live. No play sets, even catch and shoot screen plays...in a decade...and you just ignore stuff like that. No real team styles in a decade...but you don't say a thing against the series.

The games are what they are. Instead of constantly harping on message boards about what's wrong with a game, you stop playing it and move on. Live doesn't have what you mention this year... last year it was O-boards...

If you want this, it's NBA ID2004. But that does not have the gameplay of Live. You take the good with the bad.

You have a great capacity to whine incessantly. I def. do not wish I could do that. Ever.
