Playmakers All-Star/Press Box Cam/Team Specific Plays

PLAYMAKERS NBA LIVE 06 ALL-STAR SLIDERS UDATED 10/04/05

Finally, I've completed each and every teams Offensive/Defensive Playbooks to combine with the Sliders. I'm a firm beliver that this approach brings out the best overall realism in this years NBA Live. I put in extensive time and effort to get the best SIM results as possible. This game isn't perfect but what you will see and enjoy is the beauty of the players down on the court. EA did a great job by seperating the Super Star Players skills. I think that the Playbooks will provide you with the best playing experience ever in the NBA Live Series.

Player tendecies will be amazing. Kobe, T-Mac and Vince Carter will dazzle you from inside and out. While pure shooters like Peja, Allen and Redd will come off screens to drain mid-range jumpers and long range bombers that will put a dagger in the heart late in games. Inside stoppers will block shots and pocket thiefs will steal the ball if you aren't careful on the perimeter. Top bench players like Stackhouse, Van Exel and Desmond Mason will light up the scoreboard off the bench and give you that explosive 6th man look with plays that will get them involved the minute they step on the floor.

Teams will throw different looks at you during your dynasty play. The day's of the same ol Man To Man looks in EA's game is over with enhanced defensive playbooks. Now these teams won't run a Zone or Press all game long. But they will throw a surprise at you from time to time which is something I've always wanted in an NBA Video Game. By the time you realize it New Jersey might have switched to a trapping defense anchored by Jason Kidd trying to force tempo in a game on you. Dallas, Phoenix, Sacramento and Golden St will feel like pick up basketball defensively but offensively these teams will keep firing away at you and if you go cold lookout.

The biggest factor with these sliders is they were created with CPU SHOT CONTROL ON. I prefer this factor simply because it brings the player ratings into th game more. It's OPTIONAL but it is a great way to play simply because it makes you think about who's launching 3's on your team. I love the signature bank shot by Duncan in the low blocks, Dirk's outside touch and Kobe's famous head fake that will get guy's up in the air and draw a foul. Play the game like you would see it played on TV and the CPU will give you outstanding matchups.

I realize that some guy's hate the rebounding in the game offensively for Human player. My only solution is to say when you are shooting just stay with the shooter and don't crash the offensive glass every chance you get, try to get back on defense and let your AI players try and get most of the offensive boards. I could have very well just Re-Rated every players Offensive ratings like I did last year with Shot Blocking ratings. But next Gen is right around the corner and I'm really enjoying this game so much that even the offensive rebounding issue doesn't bother me becuase of the way I play and also because the game is addicting if you have settings that fit your style. Hopefully, many of you will find great enjoyment with these sliders and Playbooks. They basically work hand in hand for the ultimate gameplay. So, I realize it's a pain to setup playbooks every game but it only takes 5 Minutes Max and for the price of enjoyment for a 1 hour game I would highly suggest you use the Playbooks and Strategies suggested.......
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

    GAMEPLAY SETUP

Assign High Pressure Defense to all C's and PF's during Gameplay. You do not have to adjust anything for SF's, SG's and PG's. Leave them all at DEFAULT Defensive settings. It would be smart also to try and use matchups like you would see up front in a real game for C's and PF's. For Example Dallas very rarely assigns Dirk Nowitzki to Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett or Amare Stoudamire. They will assign him to a Center who doesn't score much on those teams. This tactic helps to keep the elite PF's out of foul trouble in real life and the way that the playbooks are setup you can protect these elite PF's for the CPU and your team. So, that's just something to think about if you like playing these games realistic matchup wise. Also don't be afraid to call a Zone on occasion to help keep quick PG's and SG's like Nash Iverson and Francis out of the paint because I have certain plays designed for them to attack you hard. But don't worry the Mid-Range game is in full effect aswell.

To setup the CPU's Playbook you have to take your controller before the start of the game and go to all the Playbook settings and assign them just like I have them setup. Make sure you hit START after you put in the settings for Offensive and Defensive QUICK Plays and Team Stratgey or else it will not save if you hit TRIANGLE to back out. Put the plays in the order in which I have them listed. Most teams will come with a ZONE DEFENSE and a PRESS DEFENSE to add different looks throughout the game when you face them. Some Teams are more agressive defensively than others so you won't get the same type of pressure from game to game.

I need to be sure about this PM. So if we change the 4 quick plays for the CPU, they will run them? Do you also have to change the offensive strategy from Shooter A to say Rocket Fuel(if you were to play vs the Rox?)

PM, Just curious whether there is a way that you can set the teams strategy other than going into the pause menu, switching teams, adjusting plays, then switching back?

I havent seen a way to do this yet.

Also, i did notice that even though the stategy for say the Rockets is set to Shooter A by default, but when i went into their Offensive Plays, they had Rocket Fuel assigned to one of the quick plays.

I checked out a few teams, Miami had Power C in theirs, Sonics had Sonic in theres, Phoenix had Rising Sun in theirs.

Just wondering if maybe the Offensive Strategy makes any difference because when i change it from say Shooter A to whatever, then go back in to the playbook, nothing changes.

Have you noticed this as well?

I think it could be like last year, where if you changed the team strategy they won't run their lanes as well. Maybe shooter A should be named fastbreak or secondary break. I haven't tested it thoroughly yet, but I did notice that the suns were not breaking as much when I changed it. Also the Zipper play runs well for spacing if you run a small lineup and want your power forward to be on the perimeter like Marion last year.

The bottom 4 quick plays can be assigned as set plays. The top 4 are locked in already they can't be changed. Those Quick plays are designed for the CPU to call during certain situations. The Bottom 4 Quick plays is how I"m going to get the CPU to the best SET PLAYS that fit their top players.

For Example San Antonio Duncan is going to have two of those bottom 4 quick plays designed for him specifically. Right now Scoring PF and Power PF both get the ball in Duncan's hands more often and take the main offensive focus off of Ginoboli who was getting too many shots with the Spurs current Play Book. I don't have a problem with Ginoboli shooting but Duncan should and always will be their #1 option. So, to accomplish this you have switchup the QUICK PLAYS to favor the playcalling for Duncan and he'll also be utilized with the TEAM SPECIFIC Play under playbooks aswell. Most of the Playbooks are set to fit each teams strength already but the Quick Plays are being used more often then the selected play listed under PLAYBOOKS.

Unfortanetly, EA refuses to give us this option like they do Madden and NHL. So, we have to do it by switching controllers again this years. I know it's frustrating because like you I would rather just jump right into the game but if we want the CPU to run the plays that best fit their top players throughout the game we have to update it each game or they will play with the DEFAULT plays listed.

Well it does look like alot of the sliders carry over very well from last year's game. It appears that EA beefed up the offense more so most of the offensive sliders I've dropped down from my set of last year about 8-10 clicks. But it definetly seems like the sliders carry over this year. They won't identical to last year but very close and that helps to speed up the process and work on plays more.

Base set sliders are up now. Check them out when you have time and make sure you test play vs Houston so you can see how the Playbooks work.

As usual with my sliders they will continue to change until I find them ready for FRANCHISE or SEASON play. That means as I work my through each teams playbook the sliders will most likely change aswell but not too far from the base set I've posted.

I feel you but I had to find away to get the minutes atleast around 9 or 10. If you go with 50 speed I would lower the minutes to 7-8 because there will be too many shots roughly around 90+ per team.

So, tryst me I love the gamespeed at DEFAULT this year but it was producing too mant shots. Maybe once I get done with every teams playbook it will help to cut down on the total shots because teams will move the ball around more then I can test it at 50.

The Human player will alos factor into this aswell because if the Human player doesn't push the tempo of the game then that way shots will stay down at 50 gamespeed aswell. So, I'll see over this weekend how that works out. But 45 isn't too bad once you get the feeling. I think because of the DEFAULT speed it will take sometime to adjust playing at a slower speed.

                            SCORER SF
                            HIGHFLYER SF

                            POWER C

Playmakers has the glitch been fixed where last year if you changed the team strategy that the players would not run at all for the fast break opportunites they would just go to there starting point for the designed play?

Ok i will try them out at 45 and see if i like the speed, if not then back to 50 with about 7 minutes is what i will do.

Oh btw what setting should SHOT CONTROL be on with these sliders?, USER or CPU?.
