holy crap I beat UCLA! Last years first round game was a nightmare, opposing team shot over 70% from the field (first time i'd ever seen anything even remotely close to that, it was disgusting) and everything that could go wrong went wrong
this year was exactly the opposite, I got to the line 24 times (where i struggled in the first half, but hit my final 12 down the stretch), and shot 58% from the field to UCLA's 44%... final score was 76-69, I led 36-35 at half (was up 7 w a little over a minute to go in the half and UCLA closed strong to cut it to 1)... at that point i didnt have high hopes, i'd played one of the best halves ive ever played and found myself up only 1, thought there was no chance in hell I could keep it up for 20 more minutes
then my starting PG took over. UCLA kept playing man and my guy was just too quick w/ the first step, and then when he got into the lane he didnt miss. A few circus shots that went in, couple big jams, some and 1's, it was an absolute show... finally w/ about 8 minutes to go they switched to zone, which kept him from penetrating a bit, but by that time I had already opened up a 10 point lead and UCLA started to press on offense, force up some bad shots, some key turnovers, and it was all but over... then my PG closed it out by hitting the teams final 6 free throws to solidify the game... ended up with 32 points (including 12-15 from the line), 5 higher than his previous career high (in 3 seasons w/ the team)... couldnt ask for it to happen at a better time...
and maybe the best news in the tourney... turns out my bracket was the one that ended up getting busted early this year... 14 seed beat the 3, 13 beat the 4, 12 beat the 5 (that was my game), 10 beat the 7... so now all I've got to do is beat the 13 seed, whos rated basically the same as me, and I have myself a trip to the sweet 16 (and most likely a date w/ the #1 seed, ugh lol)
but still, yeserday the sweet 16 was just a far fetched dream, today it is a distinct possibility, so who knows, maybe tomorrow I could playing late in the game with a chance to knock off a #1 seed... if not, this seasons already a bigger success than i could have hoped for
