Re: The College Hoops 2K8 esoteric information thread (learn and discuss the arcane)
so ive recently got the game and i love it. I do a sim closed legacy and i wanted to know if there was a good coaching profile to use to win tourney games? Ive tried playing the games myself but i find that ive struggled and i actually enjoy doing the simming. Best season ive had was 30 wins and a elite 8 appearance, dont know why i suck on the tourney but would like some feedback if anyone also does the sim style.Comment

Never try to make every player a red shirt senior on your roster so the next season is filled with new players, it will crash your game. You will need some freshman on your roster to fill the all freshman award teams. This is about what you will need besides the red shirt seniors. 3 freshman 2 sophomores, and 1 junior, so about 6 players that are not red shirt seniors got my roster to not crash.Comment

Re: The College Hoops 2K8 esoteric information thread (learn and discuss the arcane)
I popped in 2K8 over the weekend. Everyone knows how much basketball has changed in the 11 years since this game came out; I figured I'd try to open up the game a bit. Granted there is still a lot of ugly halfcourt offense in college basketball, I wanted to create a better flow to the game and make it easier to get open threes and make driving lines a little more realistic. One of the main issues with this game has always been defenses rotating too quickly in addition to the defense being able to warp/bump/stop ball handlers.
I put CPU sliders at zero for the following: defensive awareness, help D, help recovery. The rest was default All Conference. I expected to shoot 60%+ from the floor and drop 90+ points on 16-minute halves.
I fired up my UConn dynasty (in my 5th season) for a home game vs #4 Duke. They're a great defensive team so I figured it'd be a good test.
I noticed a difference in their defensive immediately. Good ball movement typically led to an open shot but it wasn't too easy (my team is also loaded, as most powerhouse teams are a few years into a legacy). The CPU wasn't flying all over the floor, making perfect closeouts on every pass. My stud freshman (#2 overall player in the nation with 88 for 3PT) scored 17 of my first 21 points including 4-7 from deep. I nearly quit the game because I thought it was too easy. I took a seven point lead into the locker room. Then the second half started; I could not make a thing. I missed my first ten shots. I finished the half 0-11 from three and shot 23%. I managed to get to the FT line a bunch down the stretch and won by three in a fantastic game.
It wasn't a high scoring game (I believe 67-64 was the final). I did not have any of the goofy animations where you drive to the hoop and the CPU mugs you, the ball pops loose and your play falls to the ground in a lifeless heap. Maybe lowering DAWR impacts that sort of stuff? Regardless, I think there's something here if anyone is interested in playing a different, more modern type of game. Certainly more tweaks will need to be made but the game was really fun and along the lines of what I was hoping to see.

Hi all,
Is it possible to edit conference alignment each season, or only once at the start?
Also, will teams earn invites to better conferences?@MikeLowe47 | YouTube | Discord

Re: The College Hoops 2K8 esoteric information thread (learn and discuss the arcane)
I have a couple recruiting gripes and I'm curious if anyone has figure out a way to curb these issues.
- Teams that have 50 guards but literally just one PF and zero centers. I've had legacies where I would have two 7 footers in the game and they have some 6'5 SF guarding one of them. These would be top ranked teams like Duke and it made it easy to beat them with low level teams with crappy 7 foot big men.
- The random 4*/5* recruits that just don't get offered a scholarship. It gets too easy to just search these guys out like two weeks after the early signing period, figure which ones won't get signed, then sign them. Again, making it very easy to build up a small program.
- This goes along the last one, but major programs will literally offer a scholarship to a 2* when there is a 4* that is sitting in their lap. Makes no sense.
Has anyone figured out a way to where the top prospects all get scholarship offers or how to balance out the teams? I'm starting a legacy where all teams have their recruiting priorities set to "none." I'm sure people of have done that in the past, does it do anything? Are these just simply flaws within the game that we just need to live with?“If you’re true to yourself, you’re going to be true to everyone else.”Comment

Have you tried that? It's been along time since I've started my legacy but I'm positive I've been using it since. I've seen a diverse amount of top recruits going to various schools.Comment

For the people who do coach mode, do you stay away from the pick and roll? It seems a bit overpowered. I am doing a closed dynasty and my team isn't very good yet it can be very successful with my two players who are rated in the 70s. I imagine with better players, it is practically unstoppable.
I might just have to remove it from my playbookComment

Hey Guys! New to the forum and game this year. This is something that bugged me for a while and I think I may have solved the issue of the messed up rotations. I'm in a coach legacy and the rotations kept getting screwed up. Turned injuries off and it still happened. I had to manually go in and fix them every time and even that started getting messed up. I went to the autosave feature and turned it completely off. Boom! The rotations have not been messed up since. I've simmed multiple games and played multiple games, all after saves, and the rotations have stayed the same. Try this... It worked for me (xbox 360).Comment

So I've been playing this game since March, 2008 and I just realized that in the offseason recruiting period you can still do two individual workouts. Just when you think the game doesn't have any more surprises lol.“If you’re true to yourself, you’re going to be true to everyone else.”Comment

I have a legacy mode that has a weird glitch with the intentional fouls. When a team goes to intentionally foul, everything is the same except that the whistle is not blown and play continues lol. So the ball sometimes go loose and it's just a loose ball. As frustrating as it is, it also adds an element of unpredictability and fun that makes it exciting. Just thought I'd mention it lol“If you’re true to yourself, you’re going to be true to everyone else.”Comment
