Thanks for this. I always generally ignore the stats, but will check them out now.

Come to think of it... This is really useful because the numbers don't lie, and the ratings sometimes do... Especially early on in Legacy when your scouting rating isn't that high.

    Good stuff!

Re: The College Hoops 2K8 esoteric information thread (learn and discuss the arcane)

      Thanks!

This season I am trying to get the 30th ranked PG (3 star) who is from the east coast whom I found only because of his stat line: 10.5 ppg, 2.2 reb, 7.6 apg, 1.4 spg, 3.3 TOpg (TO's are a bit high for my taste but is offset by thos crazy passer + steal stats). He was being recruited by GW so I nosed in on them and found that on top of that he has really good grades and I am now his #1 school. I will post an update when I see him play to validate this methodology. I'm also fighting for a 4 star World PG on which I have No Info. We'll see if I have to cut him if he arrives.

Also, this season is rolling along nicely with my "Moneyball" team of Freshmen and Sophs for whom I merely simmed the ABL and studied stats. In coach mode this week I lost to the #1 ranked team on a last second luck 3 pointer (in their house) and am steamrolling the rest of the conference (who all have higher ratings) merely because I recruit high percentage shooters or rebounders (or both) who do NOT turn the ball over.

      love...this...game....

Great Thread! With no 2k9, I feel like I really am getting some added benefit from threads like this in keeping 2k8 a fresh and entertaining game by helping me to tap into more diverse skills.

One skill I just learned, and maybe is common knowledge, if you hold L2 while shooting you get a bank shot. It seems to work for most post moves, layups and jumpshots, but not when you are jumpshooting close to the baseline or when shooting from the arc.

Re: The College Hoops 2K8 esoteric information thread (learn and discuss the arcane)

From an old topic on getting more Fowards in the game and making player's size more realistic:

there are gonna be way more G than F and C in the top 25 recruits. Creating players won't help much, therefore I edit positions just like coaches do...Like real life, most point guards who come out of HS end up playing SG, CH2k8 have alot of PG who don't have the skills to play PG, I like to change them into SG...Some SG who come out are big enuff to play SF(this is how u get more fowards) and remember this is college not the NBA where a NBA SF could pass as a PF or even a C NCAA Basketball....

Basically I've gotten so into my legacy that I edit every team before each season, now my rosters look like an authentic college basketball lineup..most of the players are listed at either SG or PF(for rotation reasons)and the reason for this is becuz teams will now sub realistically base on the depth chart, I wanted PG, SF and C to be the elite positions..PG has to have 80+ rating for both handle and passing; players will become SF if they have skills as a G but too small to play PF and have to be a starter; C are atleast 6'8 260+ or 6'11+...even tho 75% of the players in my legacy are either SG or PF the CPU is smart enuff to use the players correctly for example: if I have a 6'6 player listed at PF but has the skills of a guard coming off the bench, the CPU will also play him at SF sometimes even at SG it's like there are hidden second positions...my game really fell like college basketball now instead of teams looking like NBA squads...besides editing positions I also edit height too..times it seem like the power conf get the small PF and C while the non powers get those 7 footers(i guess cuz they are rated low) so now I add one inch to every power conf player who are listed as a F or C(by default) who are under 6'9..EX: a 6'6 PF will be adjusted to 6'7...for non powers I take away two inches to F and C who are 6'10 or taller..EX: a 6'10 C will be adjusted to 6'8 LOL hey it happens in real life beasley went from 6'10 to about 6'8 at draft camp!

also If you want your bigs to dunk/bang more or for more dunks in the game in general, raise their dunk rating and standing dunk rating to 99...I personally change every player with a C or better in dunk rating to 99/99 in dunk rating and standing dunk rating, players with C- and lower I change to 50/50....This also help the post game a little

Hey Juke...sadly I may know the answer to this, but we can't adjust player heights in a closed legacy can we? I'm almost done in my second year and I don't want to start over...

That is good info jukman. It is very annoying that shorter bruising PF's in this game miss so many bunnies simply because they are short. In my UConn legacy Jeff Adrien was always horrible because he's 6'7, I could put his Close Shot at 99 and even his Standing Dunk at 99 and he would still shoot right around 40% from the paint. Meanwhile I'd bring in a stiff like Jon Mandeldove (7', like a 62 ovr) and he'd shoot 55% and up despite being nearly 25 points lower overall.

And the cool thing about the dunk edits is that despite have a 6footer at 99 for standing dnk, he will never perform one I get their dunks from mostly fastbreaks or from a running start

But you can't trust these recruits. Even the ones that say they don't care about playing time still care. If you are recruiting PGs, and you edit your rosters so that all your PGs become SGs, you'll notice a big jump in interest from all the PG recruits... even the ones that supposedly don't care about playing time (although the jump is less dramatic for them).

How do you assign 12 plays to one playbook? There are only the 8 slots in create-a-playbook.

I tried DL'ing both of these of 2K Share but for some reason they're blank for me. I have spent a ton of time creating plays and making human playbooks, I don't know if that has an effect on this problem.

The 8 slots are for the ones you use during a game, and are actually tied to your profile.

To see the plays you must load the playbook into one of the two slots, go to create a playbook and scroll to "Custom Playbook" (either 1 or 2, depending on which slot you loaded it into), and you should see all the plays in the panel on the left.

The panel to the right (with 8 slots) is blank because you have to choose which plays you want to use during a game, and then save your profile. When you load that playbook again during another session, the plays should be there.

However, when you assign one of the custom playbooks to the CPU from the pregame options (at the jersey selection screen, press triangle) the CPU will use any of the plays in the entire playbook.

It's kind of confusing. I tried to explain it in post #5 of this thread.

Call me a dumbazz, but after I created my custom playbooks for both me and the CPU, saved them (mine in Book 1, CPU's in Book 2), loaded them as soon as I turned the game back on.....assigned them to the correct Book numbers....then loaded my legacy, went to the TEAM SELECT MENU and there is absolutely no way to go into any kind of options to use the custom playbooks. What in the heck am I doing wrong or overlooking?

At the team select screen, all I can do is the normal uniform selection, team selection, and user profile selection. That's IT. I hit square just to make sure. Yup, that's the only 3 options I'm allowed. I flick the R3 button for the Options menu to come up but there is no playbook selection and it takes me totally out of the team selection screen. I am completely baffled.

                            Anyone wanna try and help?

EDIT: Found it guys....I re-read Koshi's last post above mine about using the triangle button. Haha, huge relief off my shoulders. This was driving me INSANE for the past two days!!

Ok, that makes sense. I'm gonna give it a try right now in my UConn dynasty and see how it goes.

On another note, I'm not sure why I've never discussed this but what do people typically do for subbing - specifically at what # do you take a player out? At 85? 80?

In IRL you get guys like Kyle MacAlarney who play 38-40 minutes every single game, how do you handle players like that in 2K8? Just let them play and get down into the low 70's for fatigue?

In IRL you get guys like Kyle MacAlarney who play 38-40 minutes every single game, how do you handle players like that in 2K8? Just let them play and get down into the low 70's for fatigue?
Magic number for me is 85. I've noticed players miss more shots than they normally would and subbing at 85 keeps my bench players confidence up a tad more. But I do use a 10/11 man rotation.
