The NBA killed themselves by trying to turn the sport into a cable television sport. I think that hurt the sport a lot more than brawls or baggy clothes did. Games simply feel a lot bigger when they are on national teleivision. If Stern wants to improve attendance or ratings, get the NBA back on NBC or CBS and put a ton of games on national tv (even if that means less TV money).

They've taken steps to try to address all of these things. The age requirement will help in the long run as will some of the other things the league has done.
If you think Stern thinks of this stuff all by himself sitting in his commissioner's office then you are giving him too much credit.Comment

Re: Suspensions handed down
LOL!
15 games for Melo, huh? Shoulda known Stern was gonna go overboard.
The NBA is pussified nowadays. There's like one fight every 2 or 3 years, and the League gets its panties in a bunch. Image this, and image that.
Eff Stern and his image. That fight was weaksauce compared to some classics I've seen.Comment

Re: Suspensions handed down
Fight nowadays are pretty weak. The Knicks and Heat didn't get huge suspensions because they fought like men. You didn't have Carmello hit and running like it was Grand Theft Auto out there. You had Charles Oakley trying to send someone to the hospital.Comment

All those fights were quite gay at best. Not one good one in that whole reel.Comment

I like that Chris Childs one on Kobe... that was funny.
Those were as soft as the one at the Garden the other night. I just dont get how after the Pacers/Detriot fight how Stern believes the players will be robots.Comment

Re: Suspensions handed down
Holy crap. My favorite "fight" might be the Chris Childs-Kobe one. It was friggin hillarious. The fights were obviously so much harder back in the 70s and 80s. Stern wants to clean it up, but I don't know if he can suceed.
I was watching something on ESPN Classic and it seemed like Larry Bird was one of the biggest **** talkers in the history of the NBA. It seemed like he wanted to push the guy guarding him into a fight every game.NBA: New York Knicks
NCAA: Duke
MLB: New York Yankees
NFL: New York JetsComment

Re: Suspensions handed down
Stern's justification for the long suspensions after the Malice at the Palace was that the fight involved fans instead of NBA players or officials. This fight only involved players so I wonder what's his justification.Comment
