Re: Vote for 2006-7 MVP Here
I'm not sure why people keep thinking the Mavs are still a deep team. Their top 6 players are pretty good --- Nowitzki, Howard, Terry, Stackhouse, Dampier, and Devin Harris.
But what comes after the top 6? Well, there's a bunch of rejects that would have a hard time cracking a 7-man rotation for the worst teams in the league.
Austin Croshere (3.7 ppg), DeSagana Diop (2.3 ppg), Maurice Ager (2.2 ppg), Greg Buckner (4.0 ppg), DJ Mbenga (0.8 ppg), and Devean friggin' George (6.4 ppg). And oh yeah, the fossil remains of Kevin Willis have been unearthed and promoted to 3rd string center behind Diop.
The Mavericks are a talented bunch, but they are only 6-players deep. If Nowitzki goes down, do they even have a serviceable PF to take his place? Nope, the best they have is Austin Croshere's 3.7 ppg and 3.0 rpg. If Erik Dampier hurts his back again, can they rely on DeSagana Diop and his 2 ppg 5 rpg as a starting center for a championship team? If Jerry Stackhouse is ejected, is there anybody on the bench that can score more than 7 points in a game?
The days of Eddie Najera, Marquis Daniels, Josh Howard, Antoine Walker, Antawn Jamison, Nick Van Exel, Raef LaFrentz, and/or Raja Bell on the bench are long gone. But apparently not many people have noticed, because those talking heads on NBA Broadcasts keep saying the Mavs are a deep team.Comment

Re: Vote for 2006-7 MVP Here
you dont think Dirk is the focal point of the Mavs? how many Mavs games have you seen in the past couple of seasons? You dont have to be a point guard to be the focal point of your team, although PGs obviously handle the ball on every play.

How can you vote for Nash as the MVP, ie. best player in the leauge for most intent and purposes, and claim (in another thread) that J-Kidd is the best PG in the NBA?Comment
