If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment

Re: Kidd back to the Mavs
saying Kidd would be traded to the Mavs is like saying Boston is going to make the playoffs and the sky is blue.Comment

Re: Kidd back to the Mavs
i would bet that they will certainly keep Ager on their active roster. He will get some minutes. I imagine they want to see what he's got. Ager didnt get much of a chance in Dallas.
as far as Van Horn, he will probably report to NJ briefly, but i would doubt that he plays.Comment

Re: Kidd back to the Mavs
I could have sworn someone from the league had already gone on record saying that they wouldn't approve a deal including Van Horn unless he planned on suiting up....and to get Kidd without giving up Stack or George is pretty much theft to begin withComment

Re: Kidd back to the Mavs
Lol, the Nets don't want Stack or George anyway, just their contracts to match up with Kidd and clear cap room or next year. Van Horn serves the same purpose for them so it doesn't matter that he doesn't play. Only thing is that they're getting hassell who has a bigger cap number for 2010 which doesn't fit in with what the Nets are trying to move towards.MLB: New York Yankees
NBA: New Jersey Nets
NFL: Detroit Lions / New York Giants

How could they force him to do that?Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.

Re: Kidd back to the Mavs
Will KVH actually play?
He's always been underrated. He can really score and was a very good scorer in the league until he left New Jersey.Comment

Re: Kidd back to the Mavs
Can't imagine him being in any kind of basketball shape to really warrant having him play, especially when the Nets have Vince, RJ, Nachbar, Nenad, and Sean Williams who can all play the 3 or 4.MLB: New York Yankees

Paul, Baron, Deron, Nash, Roy, Parker etc.

Re: Kidd back to the Mavs
NEW ORLEANS - The pursuit of Jason Kidd got stronger and more focused every time Mark Cuban and Avery Johnson saw Dirk Nowitzki dragging two or three defenders on his arms when he went up for a shot.
Seeing Nowitzki work as hard as he ever has to get his points - and the toll it has been taking on him - drove the Dallas Mavericks as much as anything toward Kidd.
There is a web of plot lines to the trade of Kidd to the Mavericks, expected to come under the NBA's microscope today.
You can look at Keith Van Horn's unusual situation of coming out of retirement after nearly two years to facilitate the trade.
You can feel the ache that Devin Harris must be going through, the harsh reality that your bright future isn't enough for a team tempted by a non-guaranteed, short-term payoff from a point guard who, at 34, is 10 years older. This after signing a $43 million contract in September.
You can even talk about how Devean George did the Mavericks a favor by pulling out of the original trade. The new deal is better for them, since they don't have to play without Jerry Stackhouse for 30 days, which could have been costly in the skin-tight Western Conference.
But it was the way Nowitzki, and to some extent Josh Howard, had to overwork for their points that kept the Mavericks angling for Kidd. They needed a way to procure easier baskets. Kidd may provide it, if the deal goes down.
The league did not get back to business as usual in time Monday to address either the Kidd trade or the trade of Mike Bibby from Sacramento to Atlanta.
Both deals should be reviewed today by the league. If their trade is approved, the Mavericks will receive Kidd; Malik Allen, a 6-10 forward; and Antoine Wright, a 6-7 forward and a former Texas A&M standout.
So what can the Mavericks expect with Kidd running Avery Johnson's system instead of Harris?
First, don't start drawing up the parade route in your head. This acquisition, if it comes through, doesn't make the Mavericks the favorite to win the Western Conference. It only keeps them competitive for the short-term.
"You just do what you do best, let your talent shine and execute Avery's game plan," Kidd said. "At the end of the day, hopefully that puts us in position to win.
"There are no guarantees. You got to be healthy and have a little luck."
The most glaring hole is the Mavericks' depth at center. By losing DeSagana Diop, the Mavericks have one legitimate center - Erick Dampier. But they have been intrigued by the pairing of Nowitzki and Brandon Bass, which has been one of their most effective center-power forward duos.
There are a few centers in the league, of course, who would probably feast on that combo. The arrival of Shaquille O'Neal in Phoenix, the coming of age of the Lakers' Andrew Bynum (when healthy), and the fact Houston's Yao Ming and San Antonio's Tim Duncan are still difficult matchups makes the lack of depth at center a problem.
The Mavericks will have time to scour the basketball landscape for help, but as things stand, a huge chunk of the load will fall on Dampier and Bass. Allen, who is coming in the Kidd trade, is 6-10 but is not a prototypical banger.
With Kidd, who is 6-4, Johnson has the option to start Jason Terry, Eddie Jones or George at shooting guard. Kidd is big enough to play defense against most shooting guards. That would free up Terry, who is 6-2, to defend point guards.
If Johnson prefers to keep Terry coming off the bench, he can go with a bigger lineup in the backcourt. And then, of course, there's J.J. Barea, who may be a full-time backup behind Kidd. A 5-11 point guard, Barea has been inconsistent but usually plays better when used in short bursts, which would be his role behind Kidd.
Another area of concern is the order of merit behind Howard and Jones at the wing positions, assuming Terry remains a sixth man. George, Stackhouse, Wright and Terry all will be vying for playing time.
Once again, the onus will fall on Johnson to make the decisions, starting today, when the Mavericks return to the practice floor, and then in the remaining 29 games.Last edited by ZB9; 02-19-2008, 08:29 AM.Comment
