Re: MVP discussion
from lj4mvp
I agree
I'm not quite sure how it happened, but it seems that the MVP award has lost the meaning of valuable, at least the way it's being argued on here and the way it's sometimes awarded. It's just a strange concept that the lakers trading for Gasol and getting him more help makes Kobe a better MVP candidate while the cavs losing players left and right and thus relying more on LeBron to keep things afloat makes him less of an MVP candidate because their record slips a tad.
And by the same token, if this recent trade works out and Ben Wallace comes out rejuvenated, wally offsets Gibson's injury and Andy comes back next week ready to do, all helping the cavs getting 53 wins, that somehow helps LeBron's MVP case.
I think if MVP were a new award added this year, people would look at Most Valuable Player and conclude hands down that LeBron should win it for the way he's put his team on his back night after night and carried them through the season.

Re: MVP discussion
I agree. The MVP criteria is stupid, but now it's Kobe's turn to capitalize on the stupidity, watch this suddenly become a hot topic.

Re: MVP discussion
Of course it will. It does every year... and I remember your topic but probably didnt get enough attention due to the timing of it.
I think the emrgence of the same teammates Kobe blasted this summer is overlooked as far as LA's record is concerned.
Manu is being overlooked and the Spurs are right in the hunt for the #1 west seed too.
I don't however think Chris Paul should lose the award with what his team is doing...
Then you can argue all you want, but when people compare the Celtics record from last to this year, KG's name will be in the hat too... like it or not.Comment

I agree ec... alot of the nba's awards have become a farce. In the scheme of things they don't mean much anymore.Comment

Re: MVP discussion
Just to go back to the Summer, Bryant made one stupid comment to a random dude and it gets on Youtube. I don't recall him blasting all of his teammates at all. The fact that he requested a trade was because he felt the front office lied to him [didn't get him another "star" to play with]. Which in my eyes they kind of did.
Bynum's emergence was not to be expected, he's 20. Not only that, a team without Bynum was not a title team just yet. They were vastly improved and immediately better with Bynum's presence.. having something in the middle opened up everyone else's game. As soon as Bynum goes down the team goes in a funk, and it looked like Lakers of the past 2 years. And don't forget about FISHER!Comment

Re: MVP discussion
Ok well I was just replying to that other guy's logic, which I think is completely flawed. But what does he have to do to win?
Here's what everyone has to do in my eyes:
CP3: Get a top 3 record while keeping his assists at about 10 and scoring at 18-20.
Bryant: Get about 53-55 wins, 27-30 ppg, 6-7, and 4-5
Bron: Stay around his averages and finish at least 3rd seed maybe 4th depending on how many wins they get. The Cavs need to win about 47 games.
K.G.: Just get healthy and put up numbers and keep winning.Comment

Re: MVP discussion
The simple fact that CP3 a point guard is second in the league in PER is enough to give him the award imo.Comment

Re: MVP discussion
Hahaha. Maybe it's good for the league at least. Glad both CP3 and Bron got some new players to work with at least.Comment
