Cavs + Shaq = not going to win it all

I'm going to sya it day one...Shaq and the Cavs aren't going to win it all this season.

I was against the trade when it happened and took some heat here for the Cavs offseason...

But man, the big fella just cannot...100% cannot...defend the pick and roll at all anymore.

He's worse than the 2K10 CPU pick and roll defense before sliders...

The good teams are just going to abuse him this season.

The Cavs should have added an athletic big who can defend the pick and roll. Shaq doesn't need a double team anymore...so he's not going to add a lot on offense anyway. Not close enough to negate his effect on defense.

He'll get the odd flashback 25 and 12 type night v Memphis and the Knicks...he'll get tonnes of monster dunks and the crowd on their feet...

    But that's all he's getting.

Bad move by the Cavs. Their identity has been hard core D...that's not going to happen when Shaq's there.

Drag this thread up and post pics of him and LBJ with rings in a year...but I doubt it.

Didn't they get Leon Powe. He's their only hope of defending a guy like Rashard Lewis in my opinion.

Ok, I thought he was on the roster somewhere but didn't see him tonight. Yeah he's their only hope. I don't think Varejao can handle Rashard at all, and I think if you have to go to a guy like Moon, I feel like you're losing size there.

Ferry needs to realize that a SG who is a legit threat and a decent defender is needed. I don't know who the heck he keeps going after and drafting but he clearly is not getting it right. I think that Shaq would be great if they had a solid SG that was great. Someone solid and young like Lebron. They need to look at any and everything because they are real close. Heck, they need to trade some dead weight. Freaking seal the deal for Stephen Jackson. What was that trade rumor sounding like? I'd package freaking West and Gibson plus a first rounder for Jackson.

CV, you're right. They are not going anywhere for real with what they have right now.

BTW this is not a rection to today's loss.

Shaq hasn't been able to defende the pick and roll since he turned 32...he's now almost 38. It just defies logic to think that he'll be able to do it at his age.

The Cavs got burnt big time on the P n R last season...and now they've added a guy who's pretty much the worst in the L at it nowadays.

Everyone's focussed on the Magic...but the Celtics are just going to abuse them with it come play-off tme.

I agree, I don't think they will win it all either. But don't forget they don't have Delonte or Powe back yet. If Shaq plays like he did last year(big if) Lebron has enough pieces around him to make some noise. I like the bench, but they need another impact player on this team. Tonight they were way too reliant on Lebron, someone else has to step up and take pressure off him.

There's too many damn role players on this team, Cleveland has to have another go to guy.

I like that, send former Captain Jack to the Cavs. Warriors have no need for him anyhow. It improves both teams. Cavs get another gun, Warriors create more breathing room for their guard heavy team.

I said the same thing the day Shaq was traded to Cleveland. I think I even said the Cavs would be worse than last year.

Re: Cavs + Shaq = not going to win it all

They need to shed the old ugly Cav's image. I'm so tired of Ilgauskas and Varejao on this team. Ilgauskas just reminds me of when the Cavs sucked, and Varejao just plain sucks.

Mo Williams(I don't really like Mo either, how bout Monta Ellis?)
                      Captain Jack
                      Lebron
                      Insert much better PF here
                      Shaq

Doesn't really matter, Lebron is probably bolting this team next year, and Cleveland can say hello to being last again.

Well, it was bound to happen the first game the Cavaliers lost.

In fact, I'm stunned I haven't seen a "LeBron is going to New York" post in this forum tonight too.

Edit: Oops, missed the last post, now it's about what I thought it would be!

They still don't have a legit #2 weapon IMO.

I don't care what anyone says Mo Williams is not a #2 in my book, more like a high end #3.

Well don't worry, because he's certainly not going to bolt to New York to rebuild again.
