Re: Greg Oden Out For The Year...Again

I feel bad for him and the City of Portland. In addition I hope he is able to pull an Illuaguskus and have a virtually injury free rest of his career after having many challenges early. I hope he has the mental strength to go through the rehab again.

Bill Walton was one of the greatest college players of the 20th century and won 3 chips.

Oden put up mediocre stats in one season for Ohio State and got owned by the SEC train.

Oden hide his injury really well during the draft. Also, if I remember correctly, there were some medical people in POR (also in the league) who express thier concern about the extent of Oden's injury but was silenced by preventing thier analysis to go public. Since it was only suspecions, nobody also dared to go public with the findings in fear of being proven wrong by Oden. It was when the miscrofracture surgery was announced that this people and informations started coming out in the open.

Looking at the video again, it seems like Oden dislocated his knee when he took off. So it might have been already dislocated when he was mid air. He did not land on that knee either. In fact it looks like he already knew what is happening while he is in the air. One thing is obvious though, he used only that knee to jump (somewhat in awkward position) really high and carried all that weight instead of both.

He was developing a little post game also.

He could still end up being one of the great defensive centers.

Really dissapointing. He seems like a really nice kid also.
He wasn't nearly one of the best at offensive rebounding. His post game is still at the kindergarten level. Still way too many non-existent games for my tastes.. especially when you're a #1 overall pick.

The only player who had higher rebounds and blocks per 48 minutes is Dwight Howard. Damn shame.
I don't know how to digest that stat. Watching him play, I honestly didn't think he impacted games all that much defensively and especially offensively.

Exactly. Oden's hype was as undeserving as anything I've ever seen. One of the biggest busts in sports history.

When you consider the hype this guy received since HS, I consider him to be a top 5 bust.

Since his first day at Ohio State you could see he was not going to be a HOFer. Yet analysts, NBA scouts, fellow message boarders, everyone thought this guy was the next coming.

Just take one look at his skill set. I don't see what the big commotion was. He has no offensive game to speak of. No post game, no short jumper. He fouls as much as any big man I've ever seen dating back to Ohio State.

He doesn't have a motor, doesn't have exceptional athleticism, and is really slow laterally and straight line.

His lone bright spots are his physical attributes.

C'mon man lol. His RP48 in the league only behind Dwight Howard and he has by far more blocks than anybody per 48 minutes. No one is even close. His efficiency is by far the highest in the league for somebody who plays under 25 minutes. This is also with being the 4th option on offense.

The kid was obviously developing into one of the best C's in the NBA. But this is a huge setback....he might never be the same after this.

You can give me all the stats you want, his skill set is that of a role player.

Given his hype and the #1 pick = bust

He will never be a HOFer like many thought he would be.

And don't give me the "he's a 4th option" bs either. He's the 4th option for a reason

More like the 5th option I should say

Oden is a nice player -- not "#1 pick over Kevin Durant" nice, but he'll be a very good defensive big man in the Mutombo mold if he can ever stay healthy.

And yeah, this is heartbreaking... poor guy. This does make things slightly easier for my Nuggets though, so I'll take it.
