That's reasonable and I can understand the point you guys are making about Jeter. I just can't wrap my head around the idea though that New York is the only place where you can build yourself into a global icon as Bron claims to want to be. Jordan is global icon and he did it without being in New York. Oprah has built an empire from Chicago and is one of the twenty richest people in the world. Obviously she isn't an athlete, but this is the digital media age and I still can't see how being in New York is going to offer you more endorsement opportunities and more money making opportunities for a professional athlete. Tiger Woods isn't based in New York. I still have my doubts about this idea of making more in NYC than any other major city.

Re: The Official "Where is LeBron going?" Thread
LeBron in New York would net him enough to be a billionaire. I guess I'm the only one that disagrees that Jeter would still be bigger than LeBron in New York. As popular as Jeter is, LeBron would surpass him the moment he would sign that contract. I think the reason why Jeter isn't as marketable as he should be because on an individual level he never reached the potential LeBron has made.
Jeter is a good player and sure to be in the HOF one day. But what makes Jeter a legendary baseball player? Championships. BUT he's yet to win an MVP award. Jeter's marketability has never reached it's full potential because of that. His stats are good. BUT in Jeter's career, has there been a time when you could have said that Jeter is the best player in baseball? Maybe a top 5 player. BUT I would seriously doubt that outside of Yankee fans you would get anyone to say that Jeter was the best player in baseball at one time.
LeBron on the other hand is arguably the best player in basketball today. His career is no where near being done and he has 2 MVP awards. He would own New York. And if he did go to New York and multiple championships, his marketability would be on Jordan's level. Maybe even surpass it. But LeBron right now is the opposite of Jeter. LeBron is more noted for his individual skills and Abilities and Jeter is more noted for his 5 championships.
I'm pretty sure most people agree with me on this one but here is a break down of the teams if he chooses to play for and why he choose them:
Cleveland - Loyalty
Chicago - Winning
New York - Fame, Endorsements and Money
Miami - Weather and Wade gives up the spotlight
New Jersey - The Russian mob is holding LeBron's family hostage
LA Clippers - InsanityOriginally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

The Knicks don't need Lebron. They just need any good players they can get. Melo or Deron or CP3 in a year or two plus well spent money in other areas and the Knicks will shoot right to the top of the conversation in the league. The Nets on the other hand need a good start in Brooklyn, and Bron would bring them good brand recognition.Comment

Re: The Official "Where is LeBron going?" Thread
Every time I hear D'Antoni or Walsh say "New York" I think about that. The Nets will also be in New York, so they should focus on basketball oriented goals. It'd be perfect if Lebron went to the Nets and the Knicks got other good players to make a competitive team. Then we'd have two great teams in the city and flesh out New York sports rather nicely. I don't want Lebron on the Knicks and I don't want the Brooklyn Nets to be garbage, so hopefully things work out for both teams.

Re: The Official "Where is LeBron going?" Thread
I think it's funny that people in Cleveland try to focus on "home", "community" etc to get LeBron back.
What good is being home going to do if LeBron never wins a title in Cleveland.
What they should focus on instead is to build a decent team in Cleveland and get another top Free Agent.
In today's NBA, need two top players on a team to even think about a title.
The current Cleveland team is no contender and has only got older.
They dont have cap space either to sign another top player, for now, anyway.
Personally, I think LeBron is just enjoying it all and doesnt even really know where he wants to go next.Comment

Jersey is a good situation really. Especially if they move Humphries. IMO they can trade Favors to Indiana or someone who wants a PF, and make them take Humphries to get Favors. Then they can add that other max player (Amare, Bosh, Boozer?) to go with James.Favorite Sports Teams

The Nets have always been the best option basketball-wise, it's just that people always pull the "Newark" card. The potential there is scary..."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

^ Not to mention 99% of Bulls fans think it's a guarantee that they're getting a 2nd max guy when it's currently not happening.

Yeah, and having favors makes them even more flexible. They can do a lot of things with him as a bargaining chip. They can get something real nice. Especially mid season if he shows potential.Comment
