Maybe this could also be part of the reason he doesn't.. The amount of criticism he gets is often times ridiculous.. If he loses he'll never hear the end of it, if he wins he will more than likely be told it was given to him and never hear the end of that..

Possibly it's just easier for him to not be in it and deal with a couple weeks worth of criticism every season then it is to have it questioned why he lost, or if he should have won for the rest of his NBA career..

Because we all know there are those certain fans, and certain media people who just can't let this guy play out his career like he should be able to without some sort of over scrutiny or over praise being forced down his throat at all times.

But you're not. Like I said, I don't have a problem with rival team hating a long-time player.

To be fair it's a few weeks of criticism for every one of those options you mentioned. If he entered and won, he'd get heat from some people about having it handed to him around dunk contest time every year just like Blake does and be an after thought for the rest of the year. He does it and lose, those few people will throw shade for a few weeks after the contest and shut up about until next dunk contest. He do what he does now and it's not an issue until dunk contest time.

This is where the conversation always gets funny...guys find the funniest things to jump on.

New NBA commissioner Adam Silver revealed in an interview with ESPN Radio that Miami Heat star LeBron James is among the players who have personally asked him to make the league's annual All-Star break longer.
but we rather act like LeBron flew Adam to Miami on his private jet to discuss this...and of course ESPN names the article "LeBron wants a longer break" lol

Whatever the reasoning behind it is I just don't see why people care or why they make a big deal about.. After all it is like you said just a dunk contest..

Though that oop he caught in the All Star game probably would have been enough to win it this year, especially since it's a fans vote and he's LeBron.
at the end of the day, it doesn't matter....dude is almost 30 years old at this point...shouldn't even be a topic. Now if you (still) want to talk about how he didn't enter the contest when he was in his early 20's, or how he broke his promise (even though some act like he verbally committed to donate to charity and backed out) then at least that would make sense.

He's one of the biggest precipitants in All Star Weekend and is honestly one of the guys who plays the hardest in the All Star Game itself...I've never had a problem with him not wanting to be in the dunk contest...

Yes because LeBron saying he's going to be in it several years ago we should still hold against him. Lol.

Who cares man? Seriously, Wade said it best "if he was in it he'd be expected to jump over a plane". LeBron can never win with some people. No matter what he does or doesn't do.

Maybe he just doesn't WANT to do the dunk contest?

Like OJ said, where's D Rose? Where's "future top 3 player in history" Durant? Where's Westbrook?

Yeah, and maybe Beyoncé just doesn't WANT to sleep with me. Okay, bro.

I don't literally hate the guy, but you guys honestly can't be shocked that there are people who just don't care for him...right?? Let's not act like this dude does nothing but piss excellence. Please.

Don't get the Beyonce reference at all. But really, the dude has played since last June. It's no absolutely crazy to think that he wants some time off or just doesn't want to do it. Like many people have said, he's more of a game dunker.

And no I'm not shocked at all to find people hate LeBron for ridiculous reasons, because I hate Durant for ridiculous reasons.

                      The LeBron James Thread

I didn't know an athlete's(especially one that none of us know outside of the court)word was such a big deal to people. Like 24th said, you would've thought the man agreed to donate a $1 Million Dollars to Feed The Children and then backed out at the last second. I wonder if folks will hold Kobe to his word when he said he might enter next year's 3pt contest. lol:

Personally, when Lebron made that "I'm entering next year's dunk contest" comment, I took that with the smallest grain of salt possible for two reasons:

                      1. Figured he was caught up in the moment/hype.
                      2. During that time, I always figured he did/said things just to say/do them because they sounded good to say at the time. Attention whoring basically.

Those 2 reasons alone(and you go back and find the posts because I was pretty much the only one saying he wasn't going to be in it while everyone else was buying the hype and drinking the kool aid.

I would tell the one person in here who's still holding a grudge against him for not entering to just move on with it...but if it's 4 years later and they're STILL holding a grudge against him for that, then it'd be a waste of time to tell em that.

This will be my last talking about this particular issue so I'll just say this: Stop holding these athletes to their word, especially when it comes to something as trivial as a Dunk Contest and especially if you don't trust them in the first place. Let's be real: Most of us don't trust them in the first place so can we please stop acting shocked and appalled when a professional athlete backtracks on their word. They're no different than us with the exception of a few more 0's in their bank accounts than us.

                        Re: The LeBron James Thread

Like I said earlier; too many "fans" today act like these athletes have this, 'do-whatever, say-whatever, and-not-feel-any-repercussions-whatsoever' card in their pocket and nobody can say squat.

If some of you guys want to make it sound like I'm out for blood, that's on you. I just REFUSE to be a blind apologist for an athlete(s) like I owe them money or something.

No wonder these guys act like entitled jerkbags nowadays.

Like I said, aside from the 0's, we are no different from them lol.

And too many "fans"(not sure why it's in quotation marks but whatever) have this whole self entitlement in that just because we pay part of their salaries, that they HAVE to do whatever WE want for them to be happy. Do what I want otherwise....

I look at these athletes to do one thing and one thing only: Get MY teams wins. Don't care how you get em and don't care what you do once you take that uniform off, just get MY teams W's.

42 points on 70% shooting, pretty ridiculous.. He's been much more engaged defensively these past few weeks too.
