Re: The LeBron James Thread
For me it's this, "I'm going to sit down with Adam Silver and give him my ideas" type of attitude.
Other things like he's too good to do dunk contests, as if it's "beneath" him. Then you have fans who'll defend him at all costs and I feel it like it just makes it worse.
I feel like too many fans will go to great lengths to defend an athlete if they're really good or the best at what they do. Almost as if it's a 'license to do anything', so to speak.
I realize my opinion is probably in the minority, but it's just how I feel.

Re: The LeBron James Thread
I don't really even think it came off as cocky, he said it was unfair to name 4 guys and Smitty made him, well didn't "make" him but you know what I mean.. Then when asked he said he will be one of them before it's over with.. Which is what he should say as a competitor, I would expect the same out of Kobe or KD's mouth, and the 4 guys LeBron named would have all said the same about themselves.. Maybe not Magic because he thinks everyone is the best lol.
Oscar basically says his era is the best there ever was, even during Jordan days he was talking about himself, Wilt, and Elgin basically being better. Jordan claims himself as the best ever... I think LeBron handled it in about as un-cocky of a manner as he could while still showing confidence in himself.Comment

I just don't think he owes it to anybody to be in the contest. He's 29 after all, that might be the oldest contestant ever in the contest.. If he were to do it he should have 6 or 7 years ago honestly..
And I don't get the "best players should be in the contest" arguments.. People act like it's always been that way.. It's NEVER been that way.. Outside of MJ when has the best players been in the contest? There has been like 2 or 3 contests ever with multiple star talents in it.
Nique? He would be like the equivalent of Melo being in the contest.. Chucker who scored lots of points, he wasn't one of the leagues very top players. He was the most exciting dunker though.
Harold Miner, Isaiah Rider, Brent Barry, Shawn Kemp, Vince Carter, Kenny Walker, Desmond Mason, Larry Nance, etc, etc..
It's always been about the top dunkers not the top players. Us having 3 All-Stars in it this year was pretty great talent wise compared to the norm, and having guys like Paul George, Amar'e, Dwight, Blake Griffin, Josh Smith, recently is about as good of competition talent wise as their has always been..
This notion of him basically being "required" to be in it just because he's the leagues best player is bogus.. He has no obligation to anybody to be in the contest.Last edited by ojandpizza; 02-18-2014, 02:32 PM.Comment

One reason I can't stand LeBron, he is an attention whore to the max.Cubs | Bulls | Dolphins | 'Noles

Kind of generalization no? Me personally, I've hated (not really, but within the realm of sports lol) LeBron since his Cleveland days and the antics exhibited there. He's always been a clown to me. Respect his abilities, but that is about it.Last edited by JODYE; 02-18-2014, 02:43 PM.Cubs | Bulls | Dolphins | 'Noles

Re: The LeBron James Thread
He does the pre-game dunks and in practice dunks all season long though. It's the media who blows it up every year around the all star break.. And it's not just him. He's been having fun with these dunks since his Cleveland days, it's what about 90% of the league does..
Why was Wade never in it? What about D Rose? Westbrook? Why was Kobe only in it one time? As well as Vince and Blake Griffin? Why isn't D. Jordan? Why isn't Durant?
I don't understand the special attention LeBron gets for not being in it. If people just wouldn't talk about it there wouldn't be the issue..Comment

No one is going to garner as much attention as LeBron does, partly because that is how the media is, and also because he brings it upon itself. He knows what he is doing when he puts on a show wherever it may be, around this time. He is well aware.
The issue is not why those other guys haven't done it, that's not the point. The question is, why is it such a big issue to do it? Not even JUST for him, but for anyone. But even in his case, we're talking about a damn dunk contest. Why is it so hard to just participate? You are already there for the actual game. You're the most popular basketball player in the world, and by far the best finisher in the league at this moment in time. Is it really that serious to just suit up for an hour and do things you already do in game/practice with ease?
I think it's more ridiculous to argue that he shouldn't have an obligation to do it. Again, we're talking about a dunk contest for gods sake. Idk it's just crazy to me, that anyone would be that against it, regardless of their popularity.
I give PG props for doing it this year. Didn't bat an eye. Neither did the other two guys who were already playing in the game itself.Cubs | Bulls | Dolphins | 'Noles

Re: The LeBron James Thread
I just don't think it really matters one way or the other.. Regardless of why. If he's scared to lose, scared to get hurt, just wants to watch, wants to leave fans guessing, or just not interested.. Whatever the reasoning behind it is I just don't see why people care or why they make a big deal about.. After all it is like you said just a dunk contest..
Though that oop he caught in the All Star game probably would have been enough to win it this year, especially since it's a fans vote and he's LeBron.Comment

When you announce yourself as a future slam dunk participant, EVEN DURING THE CONTEST ITSELF, and then back out for no reason whatsoever.....you open yourself to criticism. That's just how it goes.
As far your second paragraph goes...I completely agree. All the more reason he should've entered.
