After that a fan of the NBA? And you’re supposed to tell someone how they are supposed to enjoy the sport? That’s some silly *** ****.

I’ll always gravitate towards teams I enjoy watching. Idk why I need to pick a random team and just decide that no matter what that’s my team just to try and validate my fandom. Again, that’s some silly *** ****.

Man ain't nobody telling you how to be a fan. I gave my opinion on why I don't personally like it. You're gonna do what you do, I didn't tell you do it my way or go.

And I say it defeats the purpose of fandom because this isn't golf or tennis where rooting solely for individuals and their success is the point. It's TEAM sports. The outcome for the team is supposed to be the endgame and most important thing. Plus, I just think it's nuts that if a guy you like spends 4 years+ on a team and you're not STILL watching every single game of every team and not fully invested in any other teams how you don't grow some kind of emotional attachment to a certain team. LeBron spent 8 years in Cleveland, it's crazy to me how you (not YOU specifically mind you) can somehow not give a **** about that franchise for 8 years while you're following him and just pick up and leave with him and not have found anything or anybody else there that keeps some kind of investment in that franchise moving forward. It's just basic human nature to not really be welcoming to somebody who doesn't go through any downs with you but comes running to celebrate your ups and then the second you hit a down again, they walk away from you and don't even look back in your direction as you're at your lowest again. That's why people look down on bandwagoners so much.

Nah fans of teams don't have to explain their fandom but player only fans do... to team fans that have an issue with someone else's fandom. So who really is up in their feelings? Y'all expect us to just sit and take it? Why you care who roots for who? What makes you a "better fan" by having a team versus a player? Y'all are so ridiculous, it cracks me up how many people on this forum have an issue with a LeBron fan rooting for his new team like I should've said "bye LeBron" and stick with Cleveland instead. Why you caping for player only fans so hard? If KD can just shut up and take all the internet and sports world taking shots at him and use his block/ignore feature, why don't y'all?

            Re: The LeBron James Thread

I’m not speaking for literally everyone, but in a large majority of cases someone who is more on the players side of things doesn’t really claim to be a fan of any of those teams though. Like me for example, I’ve never claimed to be a Cavs fan, I’ve never acted like I’m a Cavs fan. I don’t even claim to be a LeBron fan in the sense of “yay go LeBron I hate everyone who’s not you and hope you’re the only one who wins”, just a fan of his in terms of admiration of his game. I’m not out here buying Cavs, Heat, Laker gear and pretending that the only enjoyable outcome for me is if his teams are the only teams winning. I loved the league as a whole long before he got there and will long after.

Maybe if Memphis won a title it would mean more for me than any other team, but only slightly. They weren’t even around for half of my lifetime.

As you can see, defending a players honor at random isn't exclusive to "player only" fans, lol. So support the NBA how you want I say...but you also have to deal with what comes with that territory....them's the breaks....

I say 'inheriting' that winning that comes with LBJ is an even trade off for the heat you catch, no?

I live in LA and I can tell you Laker fans are the dumbest people on the planet. I think their hate for Lebron stems from the “is Lebron better than Kobe” debate we as basketball fans had to go through a while back..

I’m a Lebron fan myself, Kobe made me appreciate greatness at all levels so I learned to appreciate players like Tim Duncan, Dwayne Wade and Dirk. But I don’t think because you’re a fan of a player means you have to follow that player everywhere they go and then call yourself a fan of that team now. I wasn’t a Cav fan last year lol. But at the same time, I understand people like certain players and the way they play the game, but don’t disrespect the fan base and say you’re a fan of the team, just say you’re a fan of that player. Everybody wins

That’s just my dollar on it.

If you didnt notice, they don't talk about the team unless they're winning. That's pretty much it

It was more enjoyable to watch them for me at least when Kobe retired because alot of the idiots disappeared, but theyre still out there lol.

There are some player bandwagon jumpers on here too, dont get it twisted.

On the "player only fans", I guess it's just weird that we only see LeBron, Kobe, MJ, etc, fans. I mean, why doesn't Luol Deng have "player only fans"? What about Kyle Singler? It comes across as latching onto a winner...hard to take a fan serious who always happens to be rooting for the winner.
