It’s just weird to me how you can hate a whole *** team one year and say you’re a fan of them the next.

That’s a general point btw, but as somebody who has followed his teams in each sport from the beginning, I’ll never understand it.

Pretty simple if one year the team was full of players you don't like and the next has players you do like. I don't think anyone legitimately dislikes certain associations for reasons outside of players other than rivalries of their team. It's not like people dislike teams for the color of their jersey or something.

I get that but if a team I dislike picks up players I like it doesn’t mean then I’m gonna like them. It just makes them a little more bearable.

Like the Pistons or the Celtics. Both teams have some players I like, like Kyrie, Hayward, Horford, Griffin and Glenn Robinson but I still dislike those teams.

I get it for people who don’t have a team to represent them, like people from the Dakotas. But if you grew up in or near an NBA city, I can’t see any reason not to follow them and only them. Seeing Cleveland win in 2016 has eclipsed anything I could possibly feel if I, for example, grew up a Lakers fan because of my connection to the city and the state.

I’m not knocking it either, I’m not a fan of the Browns (although that’s partly because they weren’t there when I started watching football) and I don’t have an MLS team whereas I do have a Premier League team.

Thank God I’ve been here since Elden Campbell and Nick the Quick. Had to go through Greg Foster and my main man Slava Medvendenko, Chucky Atkins and Aaron McKie. Nothing worse than the Ronnie Price, Jodie Meeks, and BYRON YTF IS RYAN KELLY, ROBERT SACRE AND ED DAVIS ON THE FLOOR AT THE SAME TIME!!!

Still awesome to watch the development of players though.. I loved watching JC go from a Summer League scrub to the guy he became.

Yeah that’s me. I don’t live in an NBA city, didn’t grow up in one. There isn’t really a team that I just dislike by default. So a team I don’t really care much for one season could completely change if the players, coaching, or something else causes a change with them.

One good example would be the Pistons. Never been a fan of their or cared much for them in general. But I really enjoyed the way that last championship group played together. And that’s who I was pulling for that year.

Sorry I could've phrased it better lol. Player first. I'm a Lakers fan now at least until Bron leaves, we'll see after that.

Here is a thought exercise that I have discussed with people in the past. If the Lakers and Kings(or any team) swapped whole rosters who would you root for. For me, even though I would have temporarily have a strong draw toward the players who are on the Kings now, I'd have to be all in on the new Lakers team. The continuity and history of the organization is what's most important to me.

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

                      Re: The LeBron James Thread

Me personally, I think it's lame, the whole player only thing. Kind of defeats the whole purpose of sports fandom. To each their own, but it's definitely not anything I like.

I get having a player you're a fan of and want to see do well, but it's just lame to me to latch onto that guy and just go wherever he goes. I'm a Bulls fan til the casket drops, that's gonna be the team I follow and invest in and root for over anything else. When the dynasty was broken up, Scottie being my second favorite player at the time, I still followed his career and rooted him on wherever he went, but the Bulls still took priority over that and I wasn't walking around buying Rockets/Blazers gear and pretending like I'm all in on them and apart of the fanbase like I was an actual fan. If a Rockets/Blazers game was on TV, I'd watch it to see how Pip did. During the playoffs my preference was to see the Rockets/Blazers win since the Bulls weren't in it, but I wasn't all invested in the games and worried about calls not going those teams way and rooting for them to blow teams out or stuff like that. Even as the player interest gets a little further away from the level of fandom I had for Pip. Vince Carter, Tracy McGrady and LeBron were the guys I loved the most throughout the 2000s. At no point did the Bulls hit the back burner for those guys despite how crappy they were lol. I just don't get the whole one player thing though. Especially the guys that are blatantly bad with it and start getting decked out in the gear. I saw this one guy on Facebook who's been rocking Cleveland **** for the last four years (was wearing all Miami stuff before that of course) never spoke a word about the Lakers unless he was talking **** about Kobe not being better than LeBron and as soon as LeBron announced he was signing with LA, a week later this dude had Laker shorts, Laker hat, shirt, Lakers colors shoes, etc. That kind of stuff is weak as hell to me.

It’s real hard for me to convince my son to stick with Cleveland right now too because he loves LeBron. To him Ohio is just a place we visit maybe a couple times a year, so after getting him a LeBron jersey last year I’ve now had to get him a Sexton jersey and just for good measure, a Lindor jersey for the Indians cause I’m worried I’ll lose him to the Lakers and the Astros lol. I had to live through 24 years of nothing, he’s gotta feel that pain too.

You'd have to hear somebody spend a winning season talking about how well "we" are doing and then get into a losing season and have to hear about how hard it is for "y'all", to understand. At the end of the day, you can say what you want, and you can call yourself whatever you want, but people don't have to let you sit with them while you do it.

I think it’s just really funny in general that people have a problem with how another person enjoys sports. I don’t understand how it defeats the purpose of fandom if the intention of the sport itself is to enjoy the sport. Aren’t most of us first and foremost a fan of basketball above everything? After that a fan of the NBA? And you’re supposed to tell someone how they are supposed to enjoy the sport? That’s some silly *** ****.

I’ll always gravitate towards teams I enjoy watching. Idk why I need to pick a random team and just decide that no matter what that’s my team just to try and validate my fandom. Again, that’s some silly *** ****.

Personally I’ve never said “we” about anything because it sounds a bit silly to me to begin with. But I don’t think that in most cases team specific fans like when “band wagoners” say “we” about their team.

But at the end of the day, whether you’re a lifer or not, at some point you always start out as a “bandwagon” fan in some way or another. Worrying about what other players/teams people like is just pointless.

                                I'll never get it man.

For me Its Spurs over everybody. If you are with us you are with us.

and I dont care if Tim Duncan himself comes out of retirement and joins the Lakers with Pop as his coach, I will NEVER support that team....
