Re: The Official "Where is LeBron going?" Thread

I'm in agreement with all you guys, I want this to be over already and I realize that it's really only gonna get worse after Weds night.

As for the over/under, the page is at 144 right now? How about 210? We saying Friday as the end of the week or Saturday?

Well that's assuming one or more of the top free agents signs by the end of the week. If not then it'll definitely be less than 500, lol.

I think it'll be far worse once the real reports start.

It'll be like college recruiting where everyone is getting every player.

James, Wade, or Bosh aren't going to come out and say "yeah, New Jersey sucks" or "definitely not going to Miami."

It'll be James saying "New York's a great town" and Knicks fans will run around screaming "HAHA he said New York is a great town but he only said he enjoyed Chicago!!!!" There will be about 5 teams doing this.

                          I'm back to 51/49 Cavs.

CHI is no slam dunk for chips, considering the only player Bron ever played with who also needed the ball to be effective was a total flop situation. I know Larry Hughes is no D Rose, but that actually makes it worse. You can ignore Larry when he whines for more touches, but you wont be able to ignore Rose if he feels he's been diminished too much...not to mention the touches Bosh would require. Rose seems like a great kid, and this may be wishful thinking, but to say there are definitely enough driving lanes for both guys is a huge assumption. Thats would clearly be a fantastic team, and I still think CHI has a major shot at this...but will LeBron turn his back on his Kingdom and villafy himself for a situation with question marks, especially given the way he went out against BOS?

MIA MAY not be all that appealing either, IMO. Ken Berger made a great point about LeBrons awareness of the need for impact rivalries to continue to grow the league. LeBron is savvy enough to realize this. A "Superfriends" team of three All-NBA players may reel off chips, but does that really help his legacy? Where will the rivalries come from? If healthy, they'd slaughter the East for a decade.

IMO, re-signing is a win-win. You look like a real hero to stick with the poor, down-trodden CLE fanbase, and if you win you'll be lifted to Willis-Reed-in-NY status of abstract worship. If not, in 3 season you're still only 28, entering your prime, and you can dip with a totally clear concience...not too mention a certain buddy's team will be settling in to Brooklyn with a few years under a really good young coach. It wouldn't kill him to extend another 3 seasons with a team built around you, no deferring or adjusting, and and owner who will not only spend any money necessary, but would get on his knees and give you a ***** if you told him to.

Bottom line is that it's funny that the C's whooped the Magic, and no one is saying they need to be blown up. The Lakers just scraped by that Celtic team, and might have lost if Perk didn't go down...and again, no one is saying it's time to rebuild the Lakeshow. CLE needs an upgrade at coach, and a few tweaks...but LeBron and the Cavs are still an elite team, aren't they? Perception is a funny, funny thing...

The one thing I can't stomach is how anyone could buy what John Paxson and Gar Forman when you consider what happened with Paxson and Vinny Del Negro, and just how they treated him.

First things first: my prognosis for both the Cavs and Magic is to pretty much stay put but with tweaks. With Boston out of the picture, the only threat is whatever happens in Chi/Miami/New York. All three won't be any threat, but Boozer and Johnson going to to Chicago could do it, Amar'e/Bosh in Miami could do it, and any two in New York could do it, particularly if Johnson signs there for less(I believe he's heard that his endorsements will go up in NYC).

And even with that, those teams are at a disadvantage against the Cavs and Magic. That having been said, there is a reason that the Cavs are perceived differently. Boston had a very, very specific matchup advantage against Orlando in that they could cover Howard one on one. Arguably, LA is the only team that could do that next year. Every other team has to devote more resources to guarding Dwight, because he's just too quick for everyone else in the league. So losing to the C's doesn't really speak to their whole roster. Also, the Magic have a lot of younger talent. Redick(if he stays), Howard, Nelson and Pietrus may still have their best season ahead of them. For the Cavs, West looks like he broke down mentally, Mo had his worst year in what, half a decade? Jamison seemed to not work, Shaq and Z will both be older and probably gone. Parker will start aging in dog years soon.

A lot of their roster is going in the wrong direction, especially when most people are thinking of him signing a 6 year deal. There is literally no upside on that team unless you count JJ Hickson(which no one should at this point.) It's also worth note that Cleveland is in the middle of a major shakeup in terms of management.

So it's not funny that no one is talking about blowing up the Magic, because they are still a young team that went to the Finals a year ago and their best two players will probably continue to get better.

Both teams were eliminated similarly in the present, but their futures look very different right now, for a number of reasons.

The Cavs definitley need to get younger in the post, and Jamison probably only has another 2 good (20/8) seasons left in him, but the rest of the Cavs core is just as young. James, Mo, Delonte, Andy, JJ, Boobie, Telfair, Danny Green are all still under 27, and Parker and Moon are both late bloomers with low milage.

Mo's season wasn't terrible...the man was killing it before he got hurt, and then came back as the third option with Jamison on board. He never did get right again, and never found a rythm once he became the fourth option in the playoffs. Mo's perception has been skewed quite a bit by another admittadely mediocre postseason, IMO..but very few people bother to look too deeply at why.
