However, they didn't start reaching capacity in the 2000s until 2005 and didn't start selling out until 2007. By that point they had one of the better young rosters in the league.

The Cubs are the same way. They have high attendance numbers, but the only time they come close to reaching capacity is when they're a playoff caliber team.

The Bears' attendance is actually really, really bad given the size of Chicago and the tiny stadium.

I'm not saying Chicago isn't a "good sports town", but that every team fluctuates based on the quality of the team. A city as large as Chicago is just able to cover it up easier. I see the same thing with the Redskins. They've been #1 in attendance every year prior to this past year where they finished #2, but the area is completely different when they're in the playoffs than when they are 5-11.

In 2008 the Heat had one of the worst years in NBA history and started arguably the worst team at the end of the year in NBA history.

They still finished 8th in the league in attendance per game.

      No it isn't.

Miami is exactly in the middle of NBA markets.

It's the 15th largest media market with a team (14 in the US plus Toronto) and LA has two teams so it's really 16th in terms of market size. The next four media markets all have a team as well. That also doesn't include the Nets' pending move to Brooklyn. Yes, I know you can include areas like West Palm Beach to make Miami larger, but if you do that for Miami you have to do that for every team and nobody really adds any serious rankings.

Good points but I have to argue for arguments sake.

Since 2000, the Bulls have been in the Top 10 in NBA Attendance every year and have only been out of the Top 5 one time. This is including the years when Cartwright took over and had some awful seasons.

The Cubs, bad or not, sell out virtually every game. The attendance stats are going to be misleading because they play in such a small stadium so they are going to fall in the 5-7 range if they are averaging high attendance. This year is no different with the Cubs 10 games under .500.

Not sure where you are getting your Bears stats, but they averaged OVER Soldier Field capacity last season for their home games.

        1. The Cubs don't actually sell out every game. They're mostly in the mid 90s in capacity.

        2. The Bears sold out last year but the previous few years they were in the 93% range. And that's with the tiny, ACC sized stadium.

Bosh is just happy to be here.
As Shaquille O'Neal left the Suns practice court, he yelled out, "Alvin's the coach. We must be the Clippers. And I must be Olowokandi. Nooooo!"

These guys have played ZERO games as Heat teammates and people are saying who's team it is and who's team in isnt. Just because of a mag cover.

How about waiting until the season start before we start picking team leaders.

                              Patrick Ewing>Jordan, Magic, Barkley, Malone

Also, both the 2000 and 2002 Finals previews featured Kobe instead of Shaq, so that debate is settled. The 2005 playoffs featured a full picture of Amare while the MVP got a tiny box.

Or maybe a SI or ESPN cover isn't the end all be all of sports.

There wasn't any doubt that KG was the best player out of Pierce and Ray Ray going into that year though. And Ewing was a god, **** what ya heard.
